  1. TBF, they took pretty much an identical gamble with Drew Pomeranz in 2019 and it worked out spectacularly.
  2. Strzelecki "as a hard throwing reliever." That's funny. You do watch the games, right?
  3. And so has Chafin....He's been even better and for a longer period of time. What's your point?
  4. Never said it didn't. Context, man. It is key.
  5. More proven and higher upside than Strzelecki. If he was having just as good of a season this year, we would have had to give up one of our top 10 prospects....
  6. I mean, one of the best non-closers in baseball the last three seasons...What's not to like about that? There's more to it than surface-level stats. Here's his #s since 2021: 160.1 innings, 180 Ks, 10.10 K9, 2.69 ERA, 3.04 FIP, 3.0 WAR (20th among qualified relievers and sandwiched between Camilo Doval and Ryan Helsley). He hasn't been as good this year, but he's still inducing whiffs and strikeouts which is a good sign.
  7. One thing about Chafin is his reverse splits. He's actually really good against righties but relatively mediocre against lefties.
  8. He had one outing last week where he gave up 5 runs in 2/3 of inning. Before that, his era was 2.96.
  9. Fine with Strzelecki. His bizarre loss of FB velocity this season really hurt his viability as a high-leverage reliever.
  10. Nice. Justin Wilson replacement.
  11. I would say it's a shame we're done playing the Mets, but we did take 6/7 from them.
  12. I hesitate to use the words "must win" on August 1, but the Brewers need to get going and start beating up on the dregs on their schedule. Reds face a tough pitching matchup today against Steele. Great time to gain that game back and be in control of your own destiny in the Central once again.
  13. Another great thing about the Canha trade: Joey and Sal platoon....
  14. Nice thing about Canha is it'll allow us to have less lineups with Turang and Wiemer at the bottom of the order.
  15. This puts me on the side of we need one more bat.
  16. Right. And the Rays have certainly earned the benefit of the doubt. But I don't see moving Manzardo for that type of starter. Of course, I'm quite high on Manzardo.
  17. I can see folks being somewhat disappointed with this move, but I'll tell you what. That .370 OBP since June 1 looks really nice in our lineup. I still think we need one more "bopper" in the middle of the order. We'll see. Jarvis is just a guy.
  18. A 4.05 FIP doesn't make him a TOR starter or needle mover, though. He's been more solid-to-good than elite.
  19. Thing is is I don't know if I'd call Civale a TOR starter, despite the year he's having. Castillo is a lot better than Civale.
  20. Here's the list: Acuna, Strider, Carroll, Rodriguez, Tatis Jr., Franco, Henderson. Even then, I'm unsure about a couple of these names.
  21. Helps us tonight and could really help us for the rest of the season. Love it lol
  22. Yep. Civale is good, but I don't think he's a difference maker. Though, he does have two years of control left after this season. FWIW, BTV says this is a slight overpay by Cleveland, but I disagree there as Manzardo is an absolute elite bat.
  23. Holy crap. There's the biggest overpay of the deadline. Nice coup for Cleveland. Now, I kind of want to know what Burnes would have fetched. Don't get me wrong, Civale is having a great season, but he's drastically overperforming his underlying data and is not what I would call a needle moving arm.
