  1. OMG, how are the Twins getting two prospects back, too? This is William Contreras type robbery...
  2. Nice. Cardinals miss out on a TOR pitcher. Only remaining option for them is Bauer. Also, congrats @Brock Beauchamp.
  3. Good. Besides being a terrible person, his baseball skills are rapidly declining. Chafin and Moore are the two remaining FA relievers I have interest in. We’ll see what happens.
  4. C: Contreras, Caratini IF: Tellez, Urias, Adames, Anderson, Brosseau, Hiura OF: Yelich, Mitchell, Frelick, Taylor, Winker SP: Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta, Lauer, Miley RP: Williams, Bush, Strzelecki, Ashby, Houser, Guerra, Payamps, Milner vs. RHP vs. LHP Yelich-LF Yelich-LF Adames-SS Urias-2B Tellez-1B Adames-SS Contreras-C Contreras-DH Winker-DH Brosseau-1B Urias-2B Anderson-3B Mitchell-RF Taylor-RF Anderson-3B Caratini-C Frelick-CF Frelick-CF Unless he's traded, which is still a distinct possibility, Hiura is going to be on the OD roster. They're going to give his bat one last chance to live up to the hype. He's a terrible fit defensively and split-wise for this roster, though. They'll also work to preserve the depth they've accumulated this offseason by stashing guys with options remaining in AAA (Miller, Toro, Junk), while keeping guys without options on the MLB roster (Hiura, Taylor). I think Frelick pulls a Steven Kwan and hits the lights out in Spring Training to earn him a starting OF slot. Brewers give in despite the service time ramifications due to the possibility that they could receive draft pick compensation.
  5. I believe that was with Stearns. Could mean he hasn’t had further conversations since Arnold took over. Regardless, a statement like that does ring some alarm bells. Clock is ticking with these guys…
  6. Willy, “We haven’t had any conversations yet.” Same answer as Corbin in August…. And then haggling with Corbin, aka the best pitcher in baseball the past three seasons, over $700k… I’m under no apprehension that we’ll be able to sign each of the big 3, but this is getting concerning from this FO…
  7. Agreed. Why I’m excited for the future of this team with Connor, Gus, and some of the prospects we’re heavily linked to in the 2024 and 2025 classes. But it’s up to Gard to close the deal.
  8. You’re probably right. Winning a BIG championship in basketball is definitely harder than winning in football. After all, in basketball, you have to face every team and play 20 games, whereas in football, you have only 9 games, with 6 of them being against the weak BIG West. So, that only helps demonstrate why Gard is a better coach than PC. If only PC hadn’t completely choked away his shot at a BIG title against Penn State in 2016… As for his success being with “Bo Ryan’s guys”, the 2015-2016 team that Bo left him suffered Ls to the likes of Western Illinois and Milwaukee, and was nowhere near the tournament picture. Gard completely turned that team around and brought them to the brink of the Elite Eight if Nigel Hayes doesn’t decide to break a press by himself. That was all Greg Gard. Not to mention that Bo had pretty much delegated all recruiting efforts to Gard and co. by the end of his tenure, so I would argue they were Gard’s guys every bit as they were Bo’s. They also were likely headed to the Sweet 16 at least last season before Chucky rolled his ankle. Who knows how deep they would have gone in 2020 with how hot that team was at the end. Bottom line is the tournament tends to be a crapshoot that comes down to how hot and healthy a team is. It was the same way for Bo until the Final Four teams. ”He’s missed the tourney half of the time”. That’s false. He missed it one season when two key players, including the starting PG, suffered season ending injuries. Now, could Gard improve his recruiting and up the ceiling of this program to a whole new level? Yes he could. And there’s the opportunity to do that with some of the prospects we’re in on in the 2024-2025 classes. But to liken him to PC, who literally gave up on recruiting, just doesn’t square with reality.
  9. Come on Brock. You don’t need sleep! We’re talking about the move of the decade here.
  10. This adds depth to the IF at the very least. They now have the option of playing Urias at 2B, where he profiles best. However, Anderson hasn’t been the greatest with the bat over the past two seasons…If he can OPS over 700 and put up a WAR at or above 1.5, I’ll be happy. I really don’t see the need to keep Turang in AAA any longer, other than to gain an extra year of control. He’s been there for 1.5 seasons already…I do like that this allows him to fill the Jace Peterson role, which is better than relying on him to be the starter at 2B right away.
  11. This is a good team with Wahl. 12-2 now overall, including 4-0 in conference play. Without Wahl, not so good…. We’ll see if the game is even played on Saturday. Either Northwestern will be very short handed, or Wahl and Klesmit will get some more time to recover.
  12. Bad comparison. Gard has won BIG championships 2/3 years. PC never won a BIG championship, and had some pretty big meltdowns in BIG championship games. As for tournament success, he’s been to two Sweet 16s. People said the same exact thing about Bo Ryan not being able to succeed in March until the back to back final 4 teams.
  13. I'd think that the Marlins would prefer Gorman over O'Neill as O'Neill only has two years of control left, which is the same as Lopez. If I were the Marlins, though, I would probably start with Nootbar or Carlson...
  14. Not even approaching him would be so lazy and disappointing from this FO. Like I realize that what he’s going to be asking for is likely way out of the Brewers financial means, but there’s literally zero downside to having discussions. We’re talking about the most dominant pitcher in franchise history here…
  15. Agreed. Which is why I said I could definitely see a scenario in which he’s on the OD roster. But, gun to my head, I think they’re going to keep him down to gain the extra year of control and will go with Perkins instead.
  16. If he hits in spring training like he did in AAA, I think he could start on OD like Steven Kwan did for the Guardians last year, who are even more cost-conscious than us. And unlike with Kwan, we have a potential incentive to do so with the ROY draft pick (top 3). If you put a gun to my head though, and knowing this organization, I would say he’s probably up in mid May like Hiura…
  17. I would say a good portion of it also has to do with our best player being removed.
  18. At least we're not the Mariners, who don't even have a World Series losing team to celebrate
  19. I would hope they've had discussions at the very least, which is more than was the case when Corbin was asked about it in August...
  20. I’m a huge Gard supporter (anyone who thinks his job is or should be in jeopardy at this point is insane). But he’s gotta quit it with these one man recruiting classes like in 2019 and 2022. That’s absolutely killing our depth right now when you combine it with the transfers from Carlson, Bowman, and Mors and Davis leaving early for the draft.
  21. This team has zero depth. We need Wahl against Penn State or things could really start to go downhill. Also, to help shake things up, Gard needs to bench Davis and start Essegian.
  22. True. But it's still surprising as there's only a .03 difference in their ERA's and the hardware should be enough to cancel out the innings difference imo. Projections also had Burnes earning more than Woody, too.
  23. I don’t know, a Cy Young Award and being arguably the best pitcher in baseball over the past 3 years should be worth something imo…Granted, Corbin did file for less than Woody.
  24. I'd be totally okay with what Steamer currently has him projected for (122 wRC+ and 2.2 WAR). I could definitely see that happening with the banning of the shift and a reversion to the mean with his BABIP.
