  1. Thoeretically, yes. But, at the same time, Corbin is also the player that is most responsible for them being that close in the first place. That's where the Brewers crossed the line imo. Unnecessary, humiliating, and foolish.
  2. I am all of a sudden quite interested in seeing how Robert Gasser performs this spring...and Ethan Small...
  3. It is quite amazing how collective bargaining negotiations often produce bizarre outcomes that are not in the best interest of either party. And then MLB collective bargaining takes that truth to a whole different level...
  4. I understand that, but the Brewers could have just as easily made and won their case imo without that statement, if it was indeed made. I'm not a huge fan of lies, which is what that particular statement effectively amounts to.
  5. Hopefully, this is it for injuries on our pitching staff. We were kind of hoping for better luck on that front than last year. Though, adding Miley obviously helps.
  6. Crap, well that's a kick in the nuts.
  7. I stand corrected. Though, the system is still ridiculous and favors the owners overall because it allows them to pay far less than what these players are actually worth. Regardless, the bit about Corbin being at the "forefront" of why we missed the playoffs is a total distortion of the truth and shouldn't have been said, if it indeed was said.
  8. And if only he hadn't pitched like a top 10 pitcher in the NL for the season as a whole. We could've finished below .500 and avoided this discussion entirely ...But yes, he's at the "forefront" of why we missed the playoffs.
  9. Did you miss when Corbin kept us in the playoff race in the first place, while the rest of our pitching staff was riddled with injury and we were trotting out the likes of Chi Chi and Costanza? I also remember him rising to the occasion and outdueling Sandy Alcantara over 8 innings while the rest of the team choked away that series when one additional win would've put us into the playoffs.
  10. Just because the "independent" arbiter decided in favor of the Brewers doesn't justify it being said or make it correct. The Brewers won because the system is set up heavily in favor of the owners. It's as simple as that.
  11. To say that Burnes was at the "forefront" of why we missed the playoffs last season is not presenting a persuasive argument, it's a gross distortion of the truth and an insult to his actual contributions to the team's success.
  12. Of course, Burnes may be playing things up a bit as he's clearly frustrated with how the process played out. But the fact of the matter is that Corbin was the biggest reason why we were in postseason contention to begin with given how injuries decimated the rest of our pitching staff. It shouldn't have been said, because it's a ridiculous notion. There were a dozen bigger contributing factors to why we missed the playoffs, whereas Corbin's performance on the season as whole was probably the biggest reason we finished as close as we did.
  13. No not publicly. In the arbitration hearing. But still insulting and so unnecessary being said outright to your best player.
  14. Probably. It's just the badmouthing him and outright blaming of him for us missing the playoffs last season that's a bridge too far imo. I really hope this is as far as it goes, and Corbin proceeds to channel his frustrations into another Cy Young-caliber season.
  15. Makes you appreciate what the Bucks have going with Giannis all the more..
  16. Taking the words right out of my mouth. "Pyrrhic victory" is exactly what this is. The only good that can come out of this now is if Corbin pitches like a man possessed this season due to the huge chip on his shoulder, and then we reap the benefits the following offseason with a huge prospect haul. Now, if we're in playoff position again and we proceed to trade him a la Hader....
  17. Just an overall horrible look for the organization. I get the arbitration system is what it is, but badmouthing your franchise pitcher over such a relatively small amount of dollars is beyond stomach turning as a fan. Mark has some real work to do restore goodwill amongst the fanbase after this and the Hader trade. The only good that can come out of this now is if Corbin pitches with a huge chip on his shoulder on his way to a second Cy Young, and then we get a haul for him next offseason.
  18. It's worth noting that Ashby will probably be seeing a lot of time in the bullpen, as well. His numbers in the bullpen are quite nice.
  19. If Gard can get this team to the tournament, we should give him a lifetime extension, as opposed to trying to can him. Granted, some of this is his fault (he failed to add enough frontcourt depth in the transfer portal), but this was always supposed to be a "reset" type of year, when you take into account Davis leaving early and Carlson, Bowman, and Mors all bailing. For most programs, a reset year means they're nowhere close to the tournament. Yet, despite all of our issues, we're somehow still right on the bubble with a chance to play ourselves into the dance with a series of home games. This time period over the remainder of the season and into the spring/summer will be a huge stretch both on and off the court. We should have pretty much everyone returning, sprinkled in with one of Gard's better recruiting classes. The key will be whether we can get a meaningful transfer or two to keep our walk-ons on the bench where they belong (sorry Gilmore) and hopefully nail down at least one of our top 2024 targets in Knueppel or Freitag. Gard has some work to do....
  20. It totally is being pessimistic for the sake of being pessimistic. Your statement was that “everything” needs to go right just for the Brewers to stay in contention. That’s not borne out whatsoever by the results of the past 6 seasons, in which the Brewers have been in contention in each of them, playing a total of 3 meaningless games. Nor is it borne out by the projections for this season (PECOTA, ZIPS). Also, you’re wrong about Winker. Even in by far the worst season of his career last year, he was still a significant upgrade over McCutchen (108 wRC+ vs. 98 wRC+). Seems to me like you’re the one being blinded here…
  21. Less talent on paper than in prior years? Who did we lose besides Hader? And then we made pretty significant upgrades at C and DH. Saying we need “everything” to break our way just to stay in postseason contention, despite the past 6 years of hard evidence, is just being pessimistic for the sake of being pessimistic…
  22. Why would “everything need to break their way to stay in the postseason chase” when they’ve played a total of 3 meaningless games over the past 6 seasons?
  23. Big thing, politically speaking, is that this doesn't involve a new tax. It will still be controversial, of course, and we'll hear the usual chest thumping and talking points about taxpayers subsidizing the investments of billionaires, but hard to see how this ultimately doesn't get done. Which is good for us die-hards.
  24. Yep. Huge part of why we missed the playoffs. Contrary to popular opinion, it wasn’t the offense…
