  1. That’s not how it works, though.. Plus Hader already did his fair share of blowing games for us before he was traded… He sucked for a couple of months and then bounced back for September after he was shut down for about a week. Fact of the matter is that, after Memorial Day, we won at the exact same rate with Hader as we did without Hader. So, I would say the net difference is about zero. We simply didn’t play well enough all around to make the playoffs. I do agree that I can’t wait for people to start taking empathy on the dead horse and just leave it alone.
  2. Yes, because you completely misrepresenting what the conversation was about in the first place (i.e., upside), and then being obstinate about it despite attempts by myself and another poster to reorient your thoughts to the topic at hand, means you're the victim of my "snarkiness" and "superiority complex".... I am glad that we all seem to have arrived at the same understanding now, though. We shouldn't expect Winker to immediately perform to his upside (2020-2021) given that he's coming off surgery, but the downside (2022) is still an above average hitter, and a median outcome (i.e. career average, Steamer projection, 122 wRC+) would be a welcome boost to the lineup.
  3. He's not 36...He's 29. Nothing is for certain, but I'm optimistic that he'll continue to be a well above average hitter now that the maladies that ailed him last season have been seemingly resolved. Again, the Steamer projection (122 wRC+) represents a reasonable expectation here, with the upside being 2020-2021 and the downside being 2022 (which is still an above average hitter).
  4. So it obviously looks like you don't then...Jopal was saying Winker had little upside. I demonstrated that he has significant upside as someone who was one of the best hitters in baseball the two seasons previous to last. I don't think it's fair to expect him to reach those heights coming off surgery. But this is a guy who has been an above average hitter every single season of his career, even in his so called "trash" season of 2022 where he still put up a 109 wRC+. The Steamer projection (122 wRC+) is very reasonable and one that would represent a significant boost to the middle of this lineup. Further, the downside you're referring to, as someone who walks at an elite level and makes contact at a high level, is still an upgrade over what McCutchen gave us this season.
  5. Do you not understand the meaning of upside??
  6. He was a top 15 hitter in MLB from 2020-2021 (145 wRC+), sandwiched between guys like Jose Ramirez and Paul Goldschmidt. That's just fact...I'm not saying he'll get there this season (I'll take the Steamer projection of 122 wRC+), but that's the potential upside we're dealing with here...
  7. Tatis is one of the few I'd actually seriously consider giving up Chourio for. Not sure if I'd follow through with it, but I'd be very tempted...
  8. Huh? His "career average" is a 126 wRC+ (which the Brewers would still be really happy with). So, the upside with Winker is literally one of the best hitters in the game...
  9. When it comes to the Red Sox, I would say yes. He's basically their version of Aaron Nagler...
  10. Winter’s 145 wRC+ from 2020-2021 seems like pretty big upside to me. Thats between guys like Jose Ramirez and Paul Goldschmidt…
  11. Here's the specific podcast (47:50)...
  12. According to Red Sox reporter/podcaster/fan, Jared Carrabis, the Brewers had agreed to trade Wong to Boston, but Attanasio stepped in and vetoed the deal. Speculation that the Brewers would only have received prospects in return and that Attanasio instead preferred to receive win-now type of pieces... IMO, for all the hate he has received recently, Attanasio may have done some good here, IF this report is true. Can't imagine we would've received anything special prospect-wise for Wong, and Winker could be a huge boost to the middle of the order if he hits like he has aside from 2022.
  13. Prospects Live released their Brewers top 30 list today (6-30 behind paywall). https://www.prospectslive.com/prospects-live/milwaukee-brewers-2023-top-30-prospects Their summary of Chourio gives me all kinds of warm fuzzies: "He's an organization-changing type of player and is on pace for superstardom."
  14. Apparently he lives in Scottsdale, which makes me think the Brewers were never much of an option. Free agency is unfortunately a two-way street…
  15. Kevin Brown’s problem when he fell off the ballot is that he didn’t win 300 games. Unfortunately, that was pretty much the universal measuring stick for starting pitchers until the last decade or so, unless you had overwhelming run-prevention and peripheral numbers like Sandy Koufax. If he came onto the ballot nowadays, I think he’s be pushing first ballot status.
  16. Please please please. Marlins could use a CF….
  17. Yeah. But this was also his first full season as a reliever. I'm thinking he's Drew Pomeranz 2.0. His Baseball Savant page is also really nice. If he threw his changeup even more (45.7% Whiff rate, 16.8% Usage), he could even improve/maintain his numbers.
  18. Yeah. Buehrle is definitely more of a compiler along the lines of those guys. It's a truly interesting HOF case that may not be resolved for a while. I think the BBHOF is too exclusive as it is so I'll likely be rooting for him.
  19. Andrew Chafin and Matt Moore are the names I really have interest in for relief pitchers. Either could slot into the later innings, and I'd feel good about the bullpen.
  20. I'm on the fence with Buerhle. His WAR case is pretty solid and he piled up a lot of wins, but his ERA and peripherals are really low for a HOF pitcher. His ERA (not the best stat, I know) would be the second worst I believe behind Jack Morris.
  21. Plus, the roster exodus due to the coaching change has been a lot better than expected, with Mertz and Guerendo being the biggest contributors to transfer out. And I think we'd all take the Mertz for Mordecai and Evers swap...
  22. Raw power he's been pegged around 55/60. So, above average. Game power he's below average due to the swing. I do agree that the first thing he should focus on is lessen the K rate. A 40% K rate just won't cut it in the bigs. Thankfully, he's been in the mid to low 20s throughout the minors.
  23. That Marlins series is depressing to think about. If those games went the way they should've gone, we'd have been in the playoffs for the 5th straight year despite everything...
  24. With the swing he currently has, we're probably looking at a 260/330/380 hitter. With his defense and speed, that's okay, and he'll certainly be better than replacement level. But he's got 60 grade raw power in there and could be so much more.
