  1. After Memorial Day, we won at the exact same rate WITH Hader as we did without him. We didn't play well enough all around to make the playoffs.
  2. When hell freezes over.
  3. If you can produce that argument not using RF, then okay…But by DRS, OAA, fDEF, etc he’s been below average…
  4. I won’t believe anything until a deal actually becomes an official transaction at this point lol
  5. RF is not the greatest measure of defensive abilities, to say the least…
  6. Looks like a 90 win team to me if that's how it shakes out. A little more bearish on Contreras than Steamer, but also significantly more bullish on Hiura.
  7. FWIW, Contreras just changed his profile picture on Instagram to him in Brewers gear. So if there was any worry about him pulling a Sheffield…
  8. Especially this season with the new schedule...
  9. Or a 6 man rotation, as we did for stretches in 2021...
  10. Miley is injured almost as frequently as Brett Anderson...Plus they could very easily want to go back to the 6 man rotation that was so successful in 2021. I see no reason why they couldn't keep at least 6 starters stretched out throughout the course of the season. I actually would prefer that they cash in on Lauer now and trade him to a team desperate for low-cost SP, but I never like to assume that one transaction will automatically lead to another.
  11. A trade of a starting pitcher could very well be forthcoming (Lauer?), but last season taught us that you can never have enough starting depth..
  12. There's your first major league free agent signing...Now, this is the kind of starting pitching depth I'm talking about. While 36 years of age, Miley is still a heck of a lot better than Alexander and Chi Chi, and is more proven than Gasser, Junk, and Wilson (who may be headed to the bullpen). One of the major reasons why we failed to make the postseason last season was because our starting pitching production dovetailed due to injuries and a lack of effective replacements. This helps guard against a repeat.... Miley likely slides into the back-end of the opening day rotation, but I wouldn't worry too much about innings for Ashby and Houser given how frequently Miley is injured. Essentially, Miley will be 2021 Brett Anderson...
  13. Brewers obviously saw something in Wilson that they want to have a look at developing in their Pitching Lab. On the surface, it appears that there's more to work with here than with Alexander or Kelley. Brewers also have a much better track record at developing pitchers than the Pirates. If it doesn't work out, they can always cut ties with him for virtually no cost and at no impact to their ability to make other moves. All teams, including the Dodgers, Rays, etc. engage in this sort of depth building and end-of-roster shuffling.
  14. I would argue they have been working to build more rotation depth with the additions of Junk and now Wilson to go with Robert Gasser. Now, will those guys ultimately provide better production in the long run than Alexander, Chi Chi, and Small? It's certainly an open question, but I lean towards yes atm.
  15. I don't think even Steve Cohen would claim him for $22 million. If he's really that interested in Bauer, he can just wait for Bauer to clear waivers and then sign him for the league-minimum.
  16. I disagree. A league worst K%, an insanely high BABIP and HR-FB ratio, allow you to draw meaningful conclusions about a player's likely future production. Brewers obviously used that information in deciding to limit Hiura's playing time. I didn't agree with them playing Hiura so frequently against LHP, but Hiura is really hurt by the fact that he's an awful defender.
  17. Pitching depth is okay.
  18. Okay. Totally fine with pitching depth and Trevor Kelley no longer being on the 40 man. At the same time, Wilson's numbers aren't exactly inspiring....I do think there's more to work with here than with Jason Alexander, so that's something.
  19. I do think you would have seen an elite rotation last year, too, had Peralta and Woodruff not been out for significant stretches and their innings not gone to Alexander, Chi Chi, Small, etc. There's a reason we're projected by Steamer/Fangraphs to have the 3rd best rotation in baseball by fWAR...
  20. His league worst K%, BABIP, HR-FB ratio, and expected stats indicate the exact opposite...And his numbers already declined in August/September...
  21. I believe he has to clear waivers, too, but no team is going to claim him for $22 million...
  22. True. Just wish they would've put Minnesota away when they had the chance. Rebounding was atrocious. But, then again, Wahl is our best rebounder and he was out almost the entire game due to injury. Hopefully, he's back by Saturday because we really lack depth after the top 6/7. Still, I would put our top 6 up against anybody in the BIG, including Purdue.
  23. So, split the difference between the two homer articles and you have something around 5-4 Cardinals and a very close race due to the Brewers' pitching advantage (projected 15 fWAR vs. 9.7 fWAR)??? Tommy Edman may have put up a 6 WAR season last year, but I don't think many (if any) MLB GMs are taking him over Adames at SS...
  24. Since we have seemingly arrived at the dead point of the offseason (FA is basically done) and with Spring Training still well over a month away, I thought it might be interesting to discuss this article from "Reviewing the Brew", which conducts a position by position comparison of the Brewers and Cardinals in light of their respective offseasons: https://reviewingthebrew.com/posts/brewers-has-milwaukee-done-enough-so-far-this-offseason-to-surpass-the-cardinals. They break it down accordingly: C: advantage Brewers 1B: advantage Cardinals 2B: advantage Cardinals SS: advantage Brewers 3B: advantage Cardinals OF: advantage Brewers DH: advantage Brewers SP: advantage Brewers Bullpen: advantage Brewers Overall, I think this analysis is a tad too rosy from a Brewers perspective. Specifically, I would give the Cardinals the edge in the OF with O'Neil, Carlson, and Nootbar and would probably call the bullpens a tie. Cardinals obviously have significant advantages at 1B and 3B while the Brewers have a sizable advantage at SP. Nevertheless, it's really close, and given that these two teams have alternated first place in the NL Central over the past two seasons, a tight race seems to be the most probable outcome this season....
