  1. It's not that overblown when Counsell had him sitting against a left-handed starter almost every time we faced one in the latter part of the season....
  2. Not even halfway there....
  3. We got to within one game of the World Series in part because of Burnes' contributions in relief in 2018. And then, without the failure that was his 2019 season, Burnes would never have reworked his arsenal, particularly the cutter, which has turned him into one of the game's very best pitchers. So, not sure that logic entirely works out. These guys aren't machines. Not that often is top prospect going to come up and "hit the ground running", as you say. There's a developmental process that can only occur in the majors, and the Brewers seemingly recognize that. Turang has been in AAA for a year and a half now. There's nothing left for him to do there. In Jace Peterson's role, he would get regular at-bats, especially with Wong likely sitting against LHP, without the immediate pressure of having to hold down a starting spot and produce. It's the optimal situation, if you ask me, and it certainly wouldn't be a "waste" of his service time.
  4. But does it best serve the team and the player to just hand him a starting spot without any previous time in the Majors? In Peterson's utility role, he'll still get regular bats, but will be able to ease in more to the majors.
  5. Yes. But they can remove it from Leonhard whenever they want, too. They just need to make sure they post the job for a specific amount of time before they do so. There's a process, but it's essentially a formality at this point.
  6. I went to UW for undergrad and am there for grad school/work there currently. I understand the process quite well. They can post the job at any time. They did the same thing when Greg Gard was named the permanent HC in-season, just before the NCAA tournament. They do have to allow a certain amount of time for people to apply, but once that time has expired, they can go ahead and make the hire. Why my guess is that the job will be posted within the next few weeks, and that Leonhard will officially be hired before the bowl. There's little doubt at this point that the job is his.
  7. Nothing about the Phillies rotation talent is way above ours. Hitting-wise, yes, I agree, there's a gap. But it's not as significant as I think you're making it out to be.
  8. Yes, we should all view Wong's one appearance at DH for the Brewers as indicative of how the team is likely to deploy him this season.
  9. Why must every one of your comments be a complaint about other posters? Just quit it already. As for the actual content of my post, it's quite simple. As the season wore on, Wong almost always sat against LHP due to his sharpening splits. There's absolutely no reason to think that Counsell will shift gears suddenly, especially when Brosseau, Urias, Turang are all either right-handed hitters and/or hit LHP very well.
  10. No, Yelich won't be DHing all the time, but I do think Rowdy Tellez will be seeing time there as well. Wong has never DH'd for the Brewers, and there's no reason to think that will start now. He's the starting second baseman against RHP and will be on the bench against LHP.
  11. We'll see if they tender Brosseau a contract. I could see a scenario in which they decide to non-tender him. But I just look at the playing time that Jace Peterson received this past year and think that Turang is likely to fill that void. Turang has nothing left to prove in AAA.
  12. I don't know how you can conclude that Wong will be DHing any significant part of the time for the Brewers. There's just no evidence for that.
  13. Agreed. Though, this year his defense really pushed him into the elite SS category. If he can combine last year's offensive production with this year's defense you're looking at a 6/7 WAR player and MVP candidate. But, I would still like to see him actually prove it before giving him $100 mil. plus. Woody and Corbin have earned it more than him to this point.
  14. I would imagine their plans are for him to assume Jace Peterson's spot on the roster. It allows them to ease him into the majors without giving him an everyday spot. He'll still get close to everyday at-bats.
  15. The first major hint at the direction this team is going in this offseason. This is not the type move you make if you're tearing down to cut costs. It definitely surprises me as it seemed like they were ready to give the 2B job to Turang. Turang will probably assume Jace Peterson's role, with Peterson's days as a Brewer being all but numbered.
  16. I'm just going based on BTV. I do agree that his value should be lower based on the fact that he hasn't been an every day catcher in his career. The Narvaez comparison doesn't really work, though. Jansen hits the ball a lot harder and more often than Narvaez. Even when when Narvaez was hitting 20 HRs with Seattle, that was with well below average hard hit metrics and was largely a product of the juiced ball.
  17. Look at BTV. And then look at Jansen's WRC+ compared to all catchers with more than 200 at-bats. He'll be a popular commodity on the trade market.
  18. Why would Adames take less than what he's scheduled to make in arbitration this year for the first year? 8 years may be too much, but that's not exactly a realistic proposal either.
  19. Oh yeah, Castellanos and Segura, who produced a combined 1.0 fWAR between them for $25 million dollars....
  20. Garrett Mitchell (maybe Esteury Ruiz?) and another higher-end piece potentially gets you Jansen (a Wisconsin native). Kirk would require you to add Frelick or Woodruff, while Moreno can probably only be had in a Burnes trade.
  21. Josh Bell is also available. The pieces are generally out there imo; the Brewers just have to dedicate themselves to actually getting them.
  22. Neither Bonds nor Clemens being in the HOF and having no legitimate shot at making in the future is a complete embarrassment to the writers, players, and so-called "stewards" of the game. Especially when you have almost-certain steroid users that are already in the HOF. You don't need to whitewash what they did, but you also can't tell the history of professional baseball without them, which is the basic job of a museum like the BBHOF.
  23. To be fair to Lauer, the comment was made at the end of the season, so it's not new or anything.
  24. Don't you think Stearns maybe wishes he would have had more flexibility to add pieces during his time here, and that that constitutes at least some of the reason why he's likely headed to New York or Houston? As for the core, I don't think you're giving them enough credit. What part of our rotation isn't World Series caliber? And Devin Williams isn't a "sometimes dominant reliever." He's been more dominant than Hader since 2020 and the 3rd best reliever in baseball by fWAR, not to mention ranking 98-100th percentile in all of the major Statcast metrics this past season. Adames is an elite SS. Renfroe and Yelich were both top 10 in WAR at their respective positions. While largely unproven, Mitchell/Frelick is as young and exciting of a CF tandem as it gets league-wide. If you figure out the catcher position and add a Bell or Abreu, you have a team that is pretty likely to make the playoffs and could go aways once there due to the starting pitching.
  25. He isn't wrong....And it's not like Lauer has been generally keeping us from winning games. He's been a big part of our success, and literally admitted that there's ways he and the rest of the team could have performed better.
