  1. Agreed. Seems like that starts with ditching the 2-seamer, which had less than a 10% whiff rate, in favor of the 4-seamer, which induced whiffs more than 30% of the time with a significantly lower xSLG. Just don't make the same mistake I did and get unnecessarily peeved because you looked at the stats for the wrong Javy Guerra. lol
  2. The point of people needing to get a life and move on at some point stands regardless. Sports are just entertainment; there are bigger things to despair over. It's not a "take". It's the cold hard evidence. We did not play like a playoff team after Memorial Day, including with Hader. As far as "the return", it's underwhelming as it relates to this season seeing as Taylor Rogers pretty much imploded for us. Not that Hader did any better, FWIW...But Gasser and Ruiz are two really promising prospects who are on the periphery of the top 100 right now. Their success (or failure) will determine the final outcome of this trade. Being a "buyer" or "seller" is largely a fan developed concept. Stearns made it consistently clear throughout his tenure that his goal was to win now AND in the future. The Hader trade, whether you love it or hate it, was a practical attempt to straddle that fine line. Had we kept Hader, not only would we have almost certainly failed to win a World Series, but we would also have been faced with an even lesser return this offseason with Hader only under contract for one more season and coming off a year where he posted a -1.0 WAR and an ERA over 5.00...
  3. Some people just need to get a life. I was there for all of those games, and they hurt no doubt. But I've long since moved on. And there remains very scant evidence that retaining Hader would've been enough to get us over the hump with the team playing as poorly as it did since Memorial Day, a significant portion of that time WITH Hader. The Hader deal doesn't even come close to those levels.
  4. It's 2070. The Brewers have just won their second World Series to mark the 100th season in franchise history, and yet in the background, with the confetti falling and the champaign bottles popping, you can faintly hear a couple of 80 year old dudes still stewing over the Josh Hader trade....
  5. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/35048450/minnesota-twins-redesign-uniforms Hopefully you like these more than I do @Brock Beauchamp. I always thought the Twins had great uniforms. Don't understand why they thought such a dramatic change was necessary. If anything, they should've gone back to pinstripes full-time.
  6. Hogg is not being helpful here for sure. Just feeding the wolves and completely misevaluating the situation.
  7. Really don't understand the "fans" on Twitter who are in uproar over this move and using it to take another shot at Attanasio and the front office. I'm not even sure if the Dodgers would tender Suter a contract at $3.0 Mil. with his declining numbers. He's a great guy and all, but this is a business....
  8. .2 Career WAR. 0 HRs last season in 152 PAs. Essentially limited to first base, and not a great one at that. No thanks. 2020 looks like a short-season fluke.
  9. Someone, please do a welfare check on @clancyphile.
  10. Yeah, Suter's level of production just doesn't justify a $3 mil. salary, especially for a small-market team such as the Brewers that is trying to remain competitive on a limited budget. We have better, cheaper options. But I'm not naive enough to think that the team won't suffer at least somewhat from the loss of his presence in the clubhouse. He was one of the mainstays throughout this historical run of success and brought his fun-loving personality with him every step of the way. He will be missed, not just by the players, but by fans such as myself. Best of luck in Colorado, Brent!
  11. It would be great to bring him home, but is it worth acquiring him at the expense of playing time for Frelick, Mitchell, and Wiemer? I would say probably not.
  12. We'll see. We said the same thing about McCutchen and yet we added him. And Winker's bat is a much better fit for what currently ails our offense than McCutchen's, namely, OBP and K rate.
  13. You say an .800 OPS "isn't difficult to find", but the fact remains that we had exactly one regular hitter who managed to exceed that threshold this season... Also, "we don't need another OBP specialist"? I completely disagree. Other than Yelich, we had no one who could get on base with regularity this season. It was one of the major reasons why our offense was so darn inconsistent.
  14. Realistically, I think Jesse Winker makes the most sense as the return for Wong, as they're both relatively high-priced veterans in the final season of their respective contracts. Winker had a down year this year, but he's still only 29 and OPSed well above .900 in the previous two seasons with a stellar walk rate. That's the sort of profile we need in this lineup, and Winker would have himself an open spot at DH. Of course, Flexen would be great, too, as much-needed rotation depth, and would allow us to potentially consider trading a guy like Eric Lauer. I just don't see Kelenic happening as he's still too talented for the Mariners to give up for one year of Kolten Wong. We'd probably have to add a prospect or two for the Mariners to consider.
  15. True, there's conceivably room for Tellez and one of the other. The thing is, though, that Abreu and Bell are projected to be just as bad of defenders as Tellez at 1B, so we wouldn't be upgrading on defense. I am also someone who thinks we should move Yelich to DH semi-permanently, which a signing of one of those guys would prevent. IMO, catcher and the bullpen are more of a priority at this point.

  17. Come on. It's an innocuous, playful article that seeks to provoke discussion at an otherwise quiet point in the offseason. For someone who complains incessantly about condescending speak, you sure do have an interesting habit of actually being condescending towards others. Like, we're all Brewers fans here, and a single word in an offseason article should not be enough to question that.

  19. Nothing that Kelly has done in the minor leagues suggests he's even ready to be in the majors, let alone be a late-inning reliever or a "Hader replacement". That's just not living in reality.
  20. Are you actually serious???
  21. I'm not sure Walsh is an upgrade over Rowdy, particularly the version of Rowdy we're likely to get next season with the shift ban and a reversion to the mean for his BABIP. Walsh had an outstanding 2021, no doubt, but the underlying numbers weren't great, and he followed that up by striking out 30% of the time this year. Compare that to Rowdy's 20% K rate the past two years....
  22. The more I look at it, the less I'm convinced that Josh Bell would be an upgrade over Rowdy Tellez. For example, Rowdy is projected by Steamer to have the same wRC+ as Bell and a higher WAR than Bell. Even Abreu would only be a relatively marginal upgrade. Rowdy is set to be perhaps the biggest beneficiary in baseball of the shift ban, in addition to a likely reversion to the mean with his BABIP. So, I wonder if it wouldn't be better to use our limited resources to shore up a different aspect of the team, perhaps C, RP, or SP depth...

  24. I love Quero and Misiorowski, but Chourio is as untouchable as it gets in the entire game. Not that I think the Brewers would trade them unless they get a significant, controllable piece in return, but they're not beyond the realm of possibility of trading to the extent that Chourio is.
  25. True. Though, it's not that much different from Hiura's, who I suspect Singleton would be replacing if he's indeed kept on the 40 man through spring training.
