  1. Again, there's a difference between looking/feeling like a playoff lock (from a fan/analyst perspective) and literally being a playoff lock.
  2. I think you're misunderstanding what I'm saying. Is it entirely possible for them to miss out on the playoffs? Of course, and given how the Brewers have broken my heart over the years, I will definitely be waiting until the last minute to celebrate. But, if you conducted a poll of MLB analysts right now, almost all of them would say that the Brewers are going to be one of the 6 playoff teams from the NL.
  3. I don't think it would. Would you or any reasonable baseball analyst expect them to miss the playoffs at this point, with the way they're playing and how they're set to get some key guys back? I don't think so.
  4. I think what @Brock Beauchampmeant is that they're increasingly looking like a locked-in playoff team, not that they're actually locked-in...
  5. Lauer doing exactly what you want from you 4/5 starter today...
  6. Rowdy as a baserunner has cost them a couple runs.
  7. Reading between the lines here, it looks like they are considering going with an "opener" version of Freddy the next time we need a fifth starter, which is next weekend, and then building up his pitch count in each start thereafter.
  8. You do realize that stats like K% are hugely predictive of future results? Which means that given further at-bats hiura’s numbers are all-but-certain to dovetail…The hrs are great and all but they don’t say as much as to what he will do going forward. Why should the Brewers let him go through that downturn in meaningful games during a playoff run, especially with how the offense has come out on fire to start the second half?
  9. Adames is not similar to Hiura at all, especially with the Ks. Adames Ks 27% of the time, which is below league average but not that extreme in today's game (guys like Trout, Buxton, Story, Stanton, Schwarber, etc. all K more). Hiura, on the other hand, Ks an astronomical 44% of the time, which would be the highest K rate in the league by nearly 10% if he had the at-bats to qualify. Never before in the history of the baseball has a guy K'd that much and still managed to be a productive player... Also, you leave out the fact that Adames is an excellent defender, whereas Hiura is.......not. Combined with his home-run hitting prowess (leads all NL SS), Adames' value becomes so much higher than Hiura's, as exemplified by his clear top 5 NL/top 10 MLB SS WAR.
  10. I do agree that Ohtani and Soto are the two players who I would really consider emptying the farm for to go after a World Series with our current core. But, man, what Chourio is displaying these days (to say nothing of Mitchell, Frelick, Turang, etc.) is so tantalizing that it would be an almost impossible decision for me to make. Small-market teams like the Brewers really need their farm systems...
  11. Yeah. As much as Frelick has been on fire lately, Mitchell still has the higher ceiling in my view due to the raw power. And his speed and defense are off the charts. A superstar if he does end up putting it all together.
  12. Chourio seems pretty special to me....
