  1. Yay. Finally an opportunity to make up for our Mark Rogers selection.
  2. Our rivals down to the southwest strike an intra-division deal. I'm sure they're acutely aware of our history versus this particular pitcher and against LHP in general. On the bright side, he won't be there to torment us on Thursday like he had been scheduled to do. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/08/cardinals-finalizing-deal-for-jose-quintana.html
  3. I'll tell you what, though, it is going to be beyond weird seeing Josh Hader in a different uniform. The sentimental fan in me is sad today. But such is life cheering for a small-market franchise...
  4. Yes, Williams punched a wall, we all remember it. But he has just been plain better than Hader this year. And 2 out of the last 3 years.
  5. Last year, sure. But definitely not the story in 2019. That game was won and Hader blew it.
  6. Also, worth noting that the Braves won the World Series last year with an "underwhelming" deadline following the Acuna injury and with Will Freaking Smith as their closer. Not saying that we're the World Series favorites all of a sudden, but Stearns knows what he's doing.
  7. No. That would be a step too far. Woodruff can be traded just as easily this offseason if that's the direction they wanted to go.
  8. Sure. But he cost us big in two elimination games. Especially 2019.
  9. The numbers are awesome, obviously, but the runs he did give up were at extremely inopportune moments. The 2019 blow-up was pretty much all him (Yes, Grisham had the error, but Hader was the one who loaded the bases in the first place and gave up the hit to Soto). Then, last year, he gave up the home run to Freeman at a time where we desperately needed a zero.
  10. It's also worth noting that Hader's regular season dominance has not translated to postseason dominance since 2018...Despite Hader's historical success, I would take Williams over him these days. Hader has an elite pitch that can be hit hard, as we've seen in recent weeks. Devin has an elite pitch that can't be hit at all....
  11. Utterly surprising and there's no way around that. However, this is a typical Stearns move and one that we will need to remain competitive going forward, as resigning Hader was never an option. As we've seen when he's been unavailable at various points this year, Devin is more than capable of stepping into his shoes. Will be interesting to see how Stearns pivots from here over the next 30 hours.
  12. Why on earth would we even consider moving Yelich out of the leadoff spot at this point? The guy has been seemingly reenergized and leads MLB in OBP by a leadoff hitter since he was moved there. He's been everything you want in a leadoff hitter....
  13. Yeah. The Yelich trade (pre-contract) takes the cake, obviously. But this might be second.
  14. Red Sox might consider signing Wong in the offseason with the way he's been using the Green Monster.
  15. I think they'd be able to find enough at-bats for everyone. Tellez shouldn't play against lefties. Cutch shouldn't play every game against righties. And Yelich needs an off-day every once in a while for his back. In less cavernous ballparks, Cutch can also play CF.
  16. I trust Stearns and Co, in general. Really want Josh Bell for the middle of this lineup.
  17. Idk. The offense looked pretty good last year around this time before completely collapsing in September/October.
