  1. Actually, the Bogaerts part is pretty fair, considering Bogaerts is an impending free agent. You would be looking at something similar to what the Orioles got for Manny Machado, who was also a star infielder in his walk year. Frelick is a top 100 prospect and Small is right there, too. Meanwhile, the Dodgers ended up parting with one lower-end top 100 prospect (Yusniel Diaz) and a few other guys towards the bottom of their Top 30 prospect list. Seems quite similar to me. I don't think I would go after Bogaerts, though, considering our right-side of the infield is perhaps the strongest part of our team aside from our pitching. CF is much more of a need, in my opinion.
  2. Xander Bogaerts is almost certainly going to walk in the offseason, raising the possibility that the Red Sox will come away with nothing for him except a draft pick. Unless they go on a major run and surpass the teams you listed above, I think they will definitely be listening on their impending free agents like Bogaerts and JD Martinez.

  4. About as even as it gets in terms of pitching matchups, with maybe a slight advantage to Houser and the Brewers. Would be a nice one to get to set the tone for not only the rest of the series, but also the remainder of the roadtrip.
  5. While I like the out of the box thinking, I don’t think moving a guy like Woodruff from his usual rotation spot is the answer, either. Despite the slow start from him, he remains one of the top pitchers in all of baseball. You don’t play games with those types of guys, and want them to face the best teams. I do think they could do something such as switching the rotation around a little bit to ensure that Lauer faces the Dodgers, who he has absolutely dominated over the course of his career.
  6. My previous screen name? This is literally the only one I’ve ever had, as I just joined in April after having been a long time lurker. If you’re going to make accusations, at least make them correct. And I will remind you that you responded to one of my opinions today and tried to tell me how I’m wrong, not the other way around.
  7. It’s convenient that you bring up the run differential argument today, after the Cardinals blow out the Pirates 18-4, as opposed to last night, when we were ahead of them. And I thought beating up on the pirates doesn’t say anything about a team’s overall quality… You pointed to the projection sites to note that the Brewers have played one of the weakest schedules in the majors. However, those same projection sites also have the Brewers winning between 92-96 games and the Cardinals around 84-86. Seems like a difference in class to me.
  8. I could say the same to you. You responded to me, after all….
  9. I really don’t care. You can hold whatever opinion you want. But I will call it out when I believe it is wrong or misplaced and you volunteer it on this site. This is an internet message board, where questioning other people’s opinions is allowed. You responded to my opinion, and I defended it and tried to explain why I think you’re wrong. What is completely ridiculous, however, is how the “are we a good team” conversation is initiated by the same few people every time we are trailing in a game. Just look at last year’s results, the results to start this year, and the projection sites. That will give you your answer. Of course, the Brewers have their questions. But theirs are less than pretty much every other team in the NL with the exception of the Dodgers. And if you don’t believe the Brewers’ pitching gives them a leg up on the competition, then I don’t know what to say.
  10. It is getting quite tiring to keep having the “are we a good team” conversation every time we lose a freaking game. Just look at last year’s results, our results so far this year, and the projection sites. The answer is unequivocally, “yes”.
  11. I never said they were equivalent with or better than the dodgers. The dodgers obviously hover above everyone else in the NL right now, as they have for several years now. But the Brewers were the third best team in the league last year, and have played at or above that level to start the year. Everyone else has either played below that level (Giants, Braves) or has serious injury/age concerns (Mets/Cardinals). Regardless of their weak schedule, the Brewers have been doing exactly what very good teams do with such a schedule. As for the Cardinals, I have watched a lot of their games this year. Arenado and Goldschmidt are amazing, and Edman has been great to start the year, but literally every other part of their roster is a question mark right now. The bottom of their order has been abysmal. Now, their rookies (Donovan, Yepez) have helped to stabilize things somewhat, but their current production, which is at a near all star level, is not in accordance with their prospect pedigrees. And yes, they are reliant on their 40 year olds. Molina remains their primary catcher, Wainwright is their undisputed “ace”, and Pujols is playing almost every day as their DH, even filling in at 1B on occasion. They may make the playoffs just because they are the Cardinals, but they are not at our level, nor are they in the upper class of the NL. I don’t think you fully understand or appreciate just how much our pitching (assuming Peralta is not out for long) gives us a leg up on everyone else with the exception of the Dodgers and Mets (when/if healthy).
  12. Nope. But generally, tight shoulders are better than things such as sore or inflamed elbows.
  13. Freddy to the IL, per CC. Will apparently undergo further testing in Milwaukee tomorrow. Gotta imagine that Ethan Small gets the call up.
  14. I just hope I never have to see Brosseau at SS again. His defensive miscues really set the tone for today’s crappy events
  15. The only NL teams I’m absolutely convinced are “good” at this point are the Dodgers and the Brewers tbh. The Braves would be next up for me, with the only thing really going against them being their current record. The Mets are the Mets, and the injury issues surrounding DeGrom and Scherzer are a major concern for them. The Giants are clearly not the team they were last year, while the Padres haven’t really been demonstrably better than the team that collapsed and missed the postseason last year. As for the Cardinals, everyone likes to talk about their devil magic, but that is a flawed team that is way too reliant on a trio of 40 year olds and has very little in the way of pitching depth.
  16. Absolutely not. More like time to give Ethan small his well deserved shot.
  17. Right shoulder tightness for Freddy. Likely a precautionary thing. So, good to hear, though him going on the IL for a little bit wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world either with our pitching depth. We need him as healthy as possibly this season to achieve our goals.
  18. Right. So why even have this conversation now after what has been an unusual game to say the least? You can only play who is on your schedule and the Brewers have been doing exactly what really good teams do.
  19. What about Atlanta? Just took a series from them, didn’t we?
  20. But you just said we don’t know yet know that about the Brewers…
  21. No, it's not unreasonable. But it is interesting how this conversation always seems to pop up on occasions like this...
  22. Counsell did not set the right tone for this game, though, by starting Brosseau at SS and McCutchen at LF.
  23. I see it didn't take long for the talks about whether this is a good team to get started up again...?
