  1. One of the things that could work heavily to the Brewers' advantage this postseason is the extra off-day added by MLB. Due to that, the Brewers would be able to have one one of their Big 3 start every game up to game 4 of the NLCS.
  2. Not really. He was still striking out about 40% of the time this year in almost the same # of at-bats. It's always been the same three question marks with him: K rate, GB %, and health...There's a reason Sal Frelick was a more highly regarded prospect.
  3. 40% is, in fact, too much. But he's only had about 120 at-bats, so there's time to reverse that.
  4. Rowdy cannot be on the playoff roster.
  5. It's possible. But they're not getting cute with Miley in Game 1 to do it. Would probably be Woody.
  6. 200 Ks. Twice through the order. Nice place to stop.
  7. How about a DFA of Rowdy and trial run for Black.
  8. He strikes out too much to be helpful in the postseason imo. Mitchell strikes out too but at least you can use him as a defensive replacement or pinch runner if need be.
  9. https://theathletic.com/4898780/2023/09/28/mlb-award-cy-young-2023-mvp/ (Paywall, highly recommended ) Per the Athletic straw poll (which is the first sampling I've seen this year), CC is neck and neck with Torey Lovullo of Arizona in the NL MOY race (virtual tie at 28.6%). As we all know, it is an absolute travesty that CC has never won this award. Usually, it's the manager of the hot up and coming team that overperforms preseason expectations who steals it from CC. It was Snitker in 2018, Kapler in 2021, for example. This year that vote is being split between Lovullo and Schumaker for the Marlins. You have to wonder if the Marlins and Dbacks both making the postseason as Wild Cards could be what allows CC to finally bring it home. Something interesting to watch out for in these closing days of the regular season....
  10. Interesting. After their recent comments and Anderson playing yesterday, I had ruled this out. Must have just decided that there was no way Anderson was making the postseason roster.
  11. They don't need to. They're currently at 39 on the 40 man. EDIT: NVM. I forgot Donaldson brought them back to 40. So, Andrews/Jones look like DFA candidates to me. They'll have to start creating space in the offseason anyways.
  12. It all stems back from when he lost his first arbitration case because the Brewers argued that he didn't pick up as many saves as other elite relievers and shouldn't be paid as such. Since then, he's exclusively been a one inning guy who refuses to pitch outside of save situations in the 9th. It's been about his bottom line ever since then. At the same time, I have a hard time criticizing a guy for doing that when any number of us would make the same decision (and in fact do in our daily lives) to protect ourselves and our families by maximizing earning opportunities and reducing/eliminating risk.
  13. Yep. Understandable imo when you've worked all your life for something and are in line for generational money. A lot of us would make the same calculation.
  14. Hearing rumors that Caleb Boushley is being called up and is slated to start tomorrow night. Can't imagine that ends in anything other than a ton of runs on the board for the desperate Cubs. Shame because I'm going to the game, but understandable. Good for Boushley though, and I hope I'm wrong. Must prefer Woody skipping his start as opposed to starting tomorrow and then going back out 4 days later for the Wild Card game 2. Makes sense in light of Saturday and his injury-plagued season.
  15. This, I would love. But happen I suspect it will not. Otherwise, they would've activated him on Tuesday. It's between him and Rowdy and Rowdy looks to be the pick.
  16. Just gotta hope it stays tied or Cubs up one game until the end of play on Saturday.
  17. In thinking about what today will look like for Burnes, might be good idea to look at his season finale from last year vs. ARI: 3 innings 0 runs 5 Ks 40 pitches. I could see him going one or even two innings more than that to get to 200 Ks. Last thing Corbin wants I imagine is the team (or another team) using that against him in his final year of arbitration.
  18. Look at the preseason prediction thread I just bumped. I predicted 90 wins and the Wild Card. Wrong on the wild card because I fell for the Cardinals-mania. But I felt confident about the pitching staff and defense.
  19. One more win for my preseason prediction!
  20. Chafin. I doubt this lead lasts for long.
  21. Braves did it to the Cubs again lol
