  1. Is Woodruff really worth an 8 game difference in the standings? Brewers already have the biggest pitching advantage of the series tomorrow in the most important game. Gallen and Kelly are good, of course, and going to be tough to hit, but you still have Freddy Peralta (one of the best pitchers in baseball since July) and Wade Miley, not to mention the best bullpen in baseball. A Yelich or Contreras injury would be far more impactful. The real effects of the Woody injury will be felt in subsequent rounds where the series are longer.
  2. I'm not saying he's pitching this postseason. The safest assumption obviously is he's not. But you're literally making an assumption right as you say "I'm not making any assumptions."
  3. We'll see. We're all making assumptions at this point.
  4. No, but you also get them if one doctor says you're going to miss the entire postseason, whereas another says you could potentially make it back in time. I'm not ruling out surgery as a possibility, but it's too early to start going down that road.
  5. I wouldn't go that far yet. Surgery pretty far down the list of prescriptions. And if that is what is likely required, you would think they'd rule him out for the postseason entirely. Possible, but too early to go there. Post-season wise, 3 aces is a real luxury. 2 aces is still a really good spot to be in. Especially when you have Miley as your backup option and the best bullpen in the majors to shorten games. The margins are tighter, but there's still a path forward. Offense was going to have to step up regardless.
  6. Jacob Misiorowski, Robert Gasser, and Carlos Rodriguez is not "pretty yikes".
  7. Houser is not making this roster after going 5 innings yesterday.
  8. It'll be more difficult, but the Brewers still have the best bullpen in baseball they can lean on. Woody's been key for sure, but, in reality, it's been the entire pitching staff. This is where you back away and let CC eat.
  9. In light of the Woodruff news I'm taking the Brewers in 2.
  10. I'll choose to take the optimistic route and say Brewers in 2. Burnes vs. Pfaadt is pretty self-evident. And then Peralta has pitched way better than Gallen in the 2nd half. Brewers offense explodes.
  11. You can insert Rea for Woodruff now. Also think this means they're going to go 14 position players and 12 position players. So, probably Chafin gets a spot as the second lefty option. He actually hasn't been that bad lately.
  12. Absolutely devastating. Now we have to win this series in 2. And Miley is going to be counted on if we get further than that. This franchise is cursed.
  13. Absolutely devastating.
  14. Brewers over Dbacks in 3. Phillies over Marlins in 2. Twins over Jays in 3. Rays over Rangers in 2.
  15. I never said he should be the guy, but he should certainly be on the list of candidates due to helming the Braves' offense. Villanueva is actually one of those guys I think should be up there, too. Same with Stephen Vogt. While different jobs, it's not like there's zero hitting coaches who have gone on to become successful managers.
  16. CC didn't have any coaching, let alone managing experience when we hired him.... The allure of Seitzer is pretty clear imo with his being in charge of the Braves' hitting regime. I think we could use some new ideas there at the major league level to pair with our already elite pitching development system. The exact sort of thing you want with this contingent of young hitting prospects we have as they enter the most crucial stage of their development. There's other candidates out there, too, that are more appealing than Murphy imo.
  17. If CC does up and leave (which I'm still skeptical of), then I hope we don't feel compelled to simply promote Pat Murphy. Kevin Seitzer, for example, is a guy we should be taking a long and hard look at.
  18. You say this like we don't have a consensus top 3 farm system in the game with young, developing talent already on the roster....We're following the Rays model. There may be a slight dip for a year or two, or there might not be. But a "nosedive", especially in the current expanded playoffs, is improbable.
  19. And Corbin Burnes for the Brewers, non-surprisingly, per Curt Hogg.
  20. That's ridiculous. Of course money matters a heck of a lot, but it's not the only thing. Especially when you have someone like CC who's already made millions of dollars from his playing and managing career. Not to mention a family that he wants to spend time with. Manager contracts are also different from player contracts. Dave Roberts makes the most at $6.5 million per year. Brewers can likely afford to make CC the highest paid manager in baseball which is what he deserves.
  21. People care. He deserves to be honored for his excellence.
  22. Except the Mets, who everybody is assuming, aren’t ready to compete next year. Zero indications of a rift with MA. And is CC really someone who’s going to leave his hometown team hanging for a few extra million bucks? I’d put a lot of money on it being the Brewers or retirement. If he leaves for NY, he’s sure going to have a lot more difficult time watching his sons play.
  23. Final Wild Card Roster Prediction: Position Players: Contreras, Caratini, Santana, Turang, Adames, Donaldson, Monasterio, Yelich, Frelick, Taylor, Canha, Mitchell, Perkins, Tellez, Miller (15) Pitchers: Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta, Williams, Payamps, Milner, Uribe, Peguero, Megill, Wilson, Miley (11)
  24. I don’t see it. What incentive does he have to manage somewhere else other than (maybe) a couple extra million bucks? This is his home. Retirement? A different story.
