  1. It's a Jeter deal...eat the cost for the fan base. His performance is irrelevant to the deal. STL can spend money if they need to, this won't affect them moving forward. I live in STL, there would be riots if they let Yadi walk. He's golden here.
  2. I'd like to stir the pot on this a bit more. Do people associate fandom with the type of Brewers hat? I'm not talking ball/glove vs. "M". I'm talking about those argyle hats, the all black hats, the leather hats. I see those and see fashion statement, not fan. To me those are atrocious. There is no excuse for owning one. Brewers or otherwise.
  3. There are a few I won't wear, but outside of that, I'm game. I live in STL, and I make it a point not to wear Cardinals gear. They're really the only team I can't stand. That being said, I have 2 young boys that are indoctrinated daily with Cardinals hype at school. They wear red on Cardinals day, etc. As much as it pains me on the inside, they both have Cardinals shirts they can wear so that they can join the fun. Neither has an interest in baseball really, they like basketball. At some point one of them will get me Cardinals gear from one of the "Santa's Village" things they have at school at Christmas (Where they can pick out gifts for family). I'll wear it, and not think twice.
  4. I like Wisconsin's D if Showalter and Happ aren't in foul trouble in the first minute. I think BK will get his 3's, he rarely gets an open look as is, he does well contested, reminds me of JR Smith. I think Vitto will be important, if he can hit 2-3 timely threes, that really makes a difference. I think Iverson is going to get some run, because they'll need his athleticism. I feel Florida is the hurdle at this point. The two teams at the bottom aren't that scary to me.
  5. I read somewhere that it was Guerra as well. I think either is a perfectly good choice.
  6. I would think one of those currency conversion places could help. If it is out of date, I'd try my luck at a coin shop. I can't imagine it would be worth a ton, but would be rid of it. I brought money back from UAE when I deployed, thought it would be cool. It wasn't.
  7. I would call them elite, with a caveat. They are an elite program and elite team that rarely has elite talent. They are a system team, the system works, and others struggle. I would not put them up with the recruiting giants, they will never be a team of one and done athletes. This recent run can only be considered elite. Final Four, close loss in a championship game, 4 straight Sweet 16s. I don't know about the long term, however. I guess it will depend on how Gard's guys do.
  8. He did miss a lot, but purely by memory/eye test...he seemed to go on a run where he hit 4-5 in a row, at a rather crucial time. He's done this throughout his career, there is precedent. As upset as they should be for getting handed an 8, Villanova should be equally upset. It's like a few years ago when Kentucky had a down year, and were the 9. I believe they made quite a run. The talent was there, they were still Kentucky.
  9. This Wisconsin team isn't really set up to blow people out. They played incredibly well against VaTech, outside of Koenig being incredibly hot, I don't see anything that isn't repeatable. Wisconsin also tends to play to the level, I don't think they'll necessarily beat Nova, but I can't believe Nova is sitting comfortably waiting on Wisconsin. Should be a good game.
  10. Happ was in foul trouble 18 seconds into the game. If he can't play physical, he's limited. Plus, Hayes took his role last night. Probably the most enjoyable Badger game I've watched this year. Koenig was just unconscious...
  11. I want nothing to do with Favors. I think he's done. He seems like a typical Bucks addition. Overpaid to not fit in. I would have loved to see them add Noel at the deadline. I love the position they're in right now. They are going to be a rough matchup for a top 3. I'm not sure they can win a series, but they can push it a few games and make a team work. Get the young guys some playoff experience, I'm not sure what piece I add next year. Depends on who leaves this offseason.
  12. Or you could just get a Gold ETF that tracks the price of gold. Agreed. I didn't read back, I thought they were discussing physically owning precious metals.
  13. If you are not buying in "bulk", scrap silver coins are easy to unload. If you are not paying numismatic value for them, scrap eagles are basically smaller versions of bars. If you're going to buy 16 ounces at a time, I'd just buy the bar. Silver doesn't typically reach value where liquidating individual coins makes sense. Bars are easier to store as well. If you are just buying an ounce here and there, buy scrap coins. Everyone coin shop will have them.
  14. Cynical me says that Minnesota is a 5 so that they tourney can try and guarantee one of their 5-12 upsets this year. The formula is there, overseeded major conference team against an underseeded mid major. I don't actually have a problem with the matchup, but I think it should be a 7-10 game rather than a 5-12. Wisconsin played the last half of the season like garbage. I don't have a problem with the seed. If I were 'Nova, I would want no part of them in the second round. I think Wisconsin is more dangerous if they feel "disrespected". They've gone on runs before in the tourney, I won't be surprised with any result for them. A loss in round 1 would be as expected as the Sweet 16. Will depend if BK gets hot.
  15. There's a team like UWM every year in the tourney. Plenty of precedent.
  16. Santana with two bombs today, nice to see!
  17. I agree, although assuming there is actually a system in place seems a bit generous
  18. I agree. I think he can be productive, and be a future piece. He filled in admirably for Davis when he missed a few games. He's youngish, has the Kentucky pedigree, I wanted him in the draft over Henson. I think he has some upside.
  19. I don't recall Terrence Jones being that old.
  20. Signed Terrence Jonesfor the remainder of season, don't hate that pickup...
  21. He's going to opt out, someone will pay him. Teletovic was a good signing, Delly was a good signing. They haven't worked out ideally, but neither was questionable, IMO. They both filled holes, and served purposes. The system sucks, GA is thriving because he could thrive anywhere.
  22. Yes, I think he is a large part of the problem. Many of these players brought in were useful on their previous teams, and go to pot on the Bucks. I don't think he knows what he's doing. The problem in firing him is that I think the casual fan knows his name, and I think he's a draw. I think the owners are somewhat starstruck by him, being basketball fans.
  23. Came out flat. Wasn't enough time to close the gap.
  24. Sorry, I should have clarified. I meant the plodding back to the basket, only good in the post Center. Of the stars you listed, Shaq is the only one who fits that...and he was a generational freak.
  25. I think they had every intention of starting him. They just happened to sign a big sluggish Center at the exact time that big sluggish Centers went out of style. The rumor is that he'll opt out, but I just can't see him making more money than he is under contract for. Teams just don't want these guys. Hibbert, Bogut, Asik...just fell off the NBA map. Teams may want them for leadership/10 mpg on the second unit, but it's startling how quickly these guys became dinosaurs. The NBA right now is small ball and stretch, there's just not a market for the oafs. 10 years ago, rumors of Jahlil Okafor being traded would be ludicrous, now they couldn't get much for him.
