  1. I will agree with FVB, there isn't a teacher shortage. My son is student teaching now, and prospects for getting a job outside of an inner city are slim. All industries have begun the trend of consolidating responsibilities, people don't "just teach" or "just anything" anymore. I'm sure it sucks in the education world, everything has been driven to standardized testing and away from the freedom to explore. It stinks, but is unfortunately the way the world is going. I don't buy the whole, "if you're a teacher, you can't understand" argument though. Everyone's jobs have unpleasant things. Most people are overstressed and over worked. It's not industry specific.
  2. Beasley replacing Corey Maggette as my least favorite Buck. Don't like this trade. I know we need shooting to replace KM, but I'd rather have a 3 and D guy. The only thing interesting about this is that Kidd may actually kill him on the court at some point.
  3. Definitely someone they could not afford to lose. Ugh. I was actually considering League Pass this year, looking like a pass now. No confidence in Vaughn stepping up, would be thrilled if he surprised. More likely, more run for Teletovic, and too much run for Terry.
  4. Chris Carter is essentially Khris Davis. We signed him from the scrap heap for nothing. That is what Khris Davis is worth to me. We were able to get a C prospect and a RP prospect for someone who will get 2.5 million on a 1 year contract in 2 years. I don't care if they pan out, Davis was a DH on an NL team. There are not exactly a shortage of these guys Carter/Reynolds/Moss come to mind as guys who can basically only hit HR. I lose no sleep over losing Khris Davis.
  5. I agree with JB12 on Santana/Broxton, I don't think trading them now maximizes value. You may lose out if they fizzle, but they're cheap, so the only way I trade is if it is in my favor. I would put Arcia/Davies/Guerra on my untouchables list. Guerra is so cheap that I don't think you can get enough in return for him, especially with his short history of success. I actually like the team they are assembling, and think it can be competitive. I would hold on to Braun, because once again, I doubt the value is there...and the money is not a factor. I would part ways with Nieuwenhuis and Gennett, bring Carter back if he is cheap. We seem to have a lot of options in the 4/5 OF and utility roles, so I don't think you're tied to anyone specifically. I would think we're due for some positive movement to the mean next year, a lot of our talent had down years. I expect a bounceback from at least some, and hope progression from guys like Coulter continues. I am a DS believer at this point. I like the guys he has brought in. I think the rebuild timeline is built around the pitching staff. How he handles that determines the length of the rebuild.
  6. I agree on the clubhouse issue, Monty, especially as many of our younger players are Latin. Bad influence. I think the Dodgers see him as a talent, in the proposed deal, McCarthy was the Hill piece. I want nothing to do with Puig, and think the headache of trying to turn him is essentially trading a dollar (Braun) for three quarters (Puig), and then trading those quarter for a handful of dimes and nickels.
  7. We may have a number of starting rotation prospects in the system, but I don't believe we have many that are ready to compete at the MLB level. I would like to see Hader, but am wary of his control. Lopez has had more bad seasons than good. Jungmann is an enigma. Burgos seems to be a AAAA/#5 guy. I don't like Suter for the rotation, but he's certainly earned the opportunity, and I don't think he's really blocking anyone. If Hader/Ortiz/Bickford/Ponce etc. all work out as starters, he's obviously not in the conversation. But for 2017, he's probably in the top 8 being considered, barring trades/FA acquisitions.
  8. I'm curious as well. I thought it was a lot of situational play, and things like that. Are there traditional games?
  9. I second Briggs statement. Well said.
  10. I'm going to do a cross sport non-exact comparison. Last week, in the US Open semi-finals, Djokovic was destroying Monfils. Monfils switched strategy and basically stopped trying. Took short choppy strokes, and basically fed the ball to Djokovic. Djokovic responded by overswinging and getting flustered. Suter is the baseball equivalent of this to me. It's not a knock on him, it's kind of like a strategy. When you put a guy in there, that theoretically, a high school hitter should be able to tee off on, I think guys overswing. His speed is deceiving, it looks easy to hit, but it's not. I'm not sure if this makes sense.
  11. I've had good luck getting what I wanted from Directv, I just have to work for it. At least one call, threats to cancel, justifications, all that. I actually asked the lady last year, we know where this is going, can we just skip to it?
  12. Not to be too much of a smart aleck, but I would guess command and control are easier when you throw everything 80 mph. I really like Suter in the bullpen, I think he's a nice change of pace. Good for a spot start as necessary, kinda the pitching equivalent of a utility man. He's a lefty that can throw strikes, no reason he can't have a long career in the majors.
  13. I think Susac will be the stopgap for awhile. I'm fine with just bringing in defensive catchers. IMO, if you can't have a top guy like Lucroy, there isn't much difference in the bottom 80%.
  14. I'll be surprised if they start him in rookie ball. I think he'll start in A/A+ and be aggressively promoted with any success. They have no investment in him. They didn't spend a draft pick, didn't spend years developing, etc. I believe this is no-lose venture for the Mets. It gets them some attention, it pleases their affiliates, it puts a professional in a minor league locker room to mentor, and if he succeeds, they get an OF out of it. It's baseball, it's supposed to be fun.
  15. I had such hopes for the Hurricane. I agree with Homer though, if he's 32...that makes me...old.
  16. For tennis, for some, the Olympics have equal or more importance as the Slams. You can only win a gold every 4 years. Elusive. Different format than a normal tourney typically as well, usually some odd balls in the medal round. It's actually interesting for me, as a fan, to watch.
  17. It's a Bowden quote, his reporting is as bad as his GM'ing. Those numbers would be around what he listed. I would guess anyone looking at him would be more worried about offense.
  18. Jim Bowden Tweet: Early consensus from scouts evaluating Tebow's baseball tools at work out: 55 Run 40 Arm 40 FLD 35 Hit 55 Power full report on Baseball Tonight 10pm et 7pm pac ESPN
  19. His workout not going so well so far. 55 Speed, surprisingly below average arm. Would have figured those two things would be his strong suit.
  20. To take this in a horribly off-topic direction. My favorite wrestlers growing up were the "Killer Bs", they would put their black and yellow masks under the ring, and then strategically put them on so that no one could tell them apart. I remember a Wrestlemania where Koko B. Ware wrestled with them in a six man match, they still did the bit with the masks...even though Koko was easier to differentiate than the other 2. As a youngster, I thought this was the most hilarious thing ever. Your mentioning the Killer B's brought it all back, I thank you.
  21. ...can eat 50 eggs.
  22. I'm not sure I could be more excited about Brinson. He has officially caught Isan Diaz on my excitement list, which was no easy task.
  23. Only if you spray yourself with Axe body spray first.
  24. Not a bad signing. He can't play many minutes, but I think he's a pretty good locker room guy. Can still shoot a bit. Insurance, leadership, a friend for JKidd...
