  1. He never filed a police report, he just gave interviews. That was part of the problem. After listening to him speak for the past few Olympics, Lochte never struck me as a brain trust. Makes USA look bad, and will taint whatever legacy he has. Weird is right.
  2. I don't really view AAA as that much of a developmental league, it's the finishing touch place. What better level to expose them to the madness that is MLB media? There's precedent for this type of thing, the world has not ended. Think what you will of Tebow, I've seen nothing that has shown him to be a bad person, if anything, he could show them a thing or two about professionalism. Why start him in rookie ball? He's 29, he's either going to help you now, or flame out. You're not going to baby him to a 5 year transition. The guy is one of the best athletes in the world. If someone has a chance of doing this, it's him. Why bother signing him? Because you want attention. There is a constant pout among mid-small market teams that ESPN and the world doesn't care about them. Sign Tebow. ESPN will be there. Maybe some deserving players get noticed/attention because of it. Maybe he's a freak of nature and is actually good enough to consider. You're not doing this because he's the difference in a World Series, that would be a ridiculous assumption. There's a 99% chance he can't hit anything but BP fastballs. You're doing this because maybe you'll see some Brewers hats outside of Metro-Milwaukee. You're doing this because it distracts people from the fact that the MLB team isn't going to be competitive for a bit. Kinda like Hank. Kinda like finding gnomes in a city. Kinda like having people wear foam rubber sausage suits and run a race. It's entertainment, it's publicity, it's a business. I've officially spent more time defending and thinking about Tim Tebow than I ever thought was possible.
  3. I think you have to balance results with potential. Suter is a bit of an unknown on how well his stuff will work in the majors. Players have had success with a fairly limited toolbox, but intelligence/pitchability, but the margin for error is slim. The AAA level is where it is most dangerous, IMO, as some guys are always going to be AAAA players. At the lower levels, they should be working on adjustments, so I look for improvement, rather than consistent results. Part of the reason I'm so excited for Isan Diaz, his progression is really intriguing. If he continues at this pace, the sky is the absolute limit for him offensively. While he may not be a SS longterm, owning a prime prospect at a lesser position has it's advantages.
  4. Nobody is going to throw Zealous Wheeler out there?
  5. I doubt he could either, most can't. The guy is a phenomenal athlete, who really hasn't had to age his body much in the past few years, due to a lack of interest of all teams in him being a QB. His athleticism is at it's peak. If he's able to do it, it's now. Let's be honest, all anyone is talking about here is his ability to bat. His days of playing a "skill" position have passed, he's probably only a corner OF, regardless of what position he used to play. This is a low risk gamble for any team. Throw him in the fire, if he wants a quick route, dump one of your AAAA players and let him roam LF on a AAA team. If he fails, it's expected, if he succeeds, you get a decent ball player and a huge media presence. You don't think a Milwaukee would jump at that? We've been marketing a dog for the last few years, for goodness sakes.
  6. Nope, I'm with you Rickey. You are not alone.
  7. He can't be any worse that Michael Jordan was, most likely better than Garth Brooks as well. I'm sure he has a cannon for an arm, he's fast, and he can't be a worse outfielder than Adam Dunn or his ilk. He's a phenomenal athlete, I think the time lapse probably makes his making the majors an unlikelihood, but I wouldn't be surprised if he could mash in the minors. He's huge, and he's played in the past. I'm sure he can hit a fastball a long way. I'm not sure how he's much different from a Monte Harrison type, just older, and more mature physically and mentally. This will keep him busy until he's old enough to be president in a few years.
  8. I would assume there is a buyout. By retiring he comes off the books, teams usually compromise to encourage retirement.
  9. Maybe paroled is a better word. Good for him. Now take advantage of the opportunity, Clint!
  10. Keon Broxton is somewhere laughing about people reacting to Arcia's 0-6 start...
  11. After the first 2 games, I'm not sure we gave up enough for Brinson. I'm not entirely sure if this should be in blue or not...
  12. From what I've seen, there is a little negotiation if the coins are being purchased for numismatic value, but firm if you are selling for metal weight. If you can find someone that gives you exact value/weight, I'd take it. Most will add a few dollar charge to hedge against the market. Not a big deal in gold, bigger in silver.
  13. Rumored to have something to do with Chris Archer.
  14. I'm not sure Stearns was snookered. I think teams decided they couldn't make it without top flight relievers, but would survive without a new catcher. I love Luc, but I don't believe he alone makes you a contender. The Royals laid the blueprint that shortening the game can win a WS. I think Stearns got the best deal he could, it falls in line with his other deals.
  15. I'll predict Cleveland, built around Sheffield and younger kids
  16. [sarcasm]This entire discussion is invalid, as I've seen no mention of Chad Moeller. Need I remind you of his cycle? I didn't think so. Case Closed.[/sarcasm]
  17. Just took a look at the last copy of the P50 on this site, to say we've come a long way is an understatement!
  18. I think "summer driving season" really refers to "summer travel season". I don't think they are comparing with commuters, just that more people will take summer road trips around weekends and holidays. Highways around major cities/attractions are typically worse in the summer.
  19. Honestly, I think you should be able to get a package of all 3 Plumlees for 4/24. I haven't had time to adjust to these new contracts. Role players are getting $20M. I'm glad we signed him. Seeing as C is a nominal position for the Bucks, I'd like to see them offload the Monroe contract. As someone else mentioned, too much money at a position that doesn't really matter to the team. If they keep him, he better be the offensive focal point of the second unit, and win games in the third quarter.
  20. Plumlee is the closest thing to the Center they are looking for that is available. If they lineup this team like they should, he will start. That's a ton of money for him, and I think his ceiling has certainly been reached, but it's not the most outlandish signing I've seen. I think this fits into their springy length philosophy. If GA-JP-KM is the big three, he's just another complimentary piece. They seem to be seeking out "team" guys, who are willing to fill roles, Plumlee is certainly that. While I liked the Monroe signing last year, it tanked. This signing is more in line with the team philosophy, and less in line with trying to sign a name. Trade Monroe, or let him lead the Second team with MCW. He doesn't belong with the regular rotation, and is counterproductive. Plumlee at least fills a need.
  21. I'll third that. I can't say I wanted to hang around the area before or after the game, but I thought the park was nice, and never had any safety concerns.
  22. Horn was a flyer..he was a first round talent who dropped...and wasn't going to sign. The 40th rounder was pretty highly thought of, but coming off of injury. I believe his dad is his head coach at UT as well (not sure)...Lillis was a high school arm that we drafted in the 25th round. At that money level, if you're confident at all in your abilities, college is probably a better option.
  23. I believe a fairly good way to look at relievers is that if they were consistent and reliable, they would be starters.
  24. I think it's becoming quite clear that they need some Matt Garza in their lives.
