In fact, the only thing that could stop Harrison was cramping, as he exited the game early while warming up for the sixth inning, though he did so after striking out the final eight Pirates he faced. That set the stage for the offense to chip away while the Brewers bullpen shut down the Twins bats the rest of the way, with a go-ahead single off the bat of Andrew Vaughn in the 8th being the eventual difference maker in a 4-3 Brewers win. That set the stage for both bullpens navigating a plethora of baserunners in the late innings, but eventually a looping line drive from Jake Bauers sent the Brewer faithful home happy in the 10th. Still, the Brewers would find a way to win, storming back from the 3-0 deficit with a 4-run 7th inning, and never looking back to close out game one. For the second straight game, then, the Brewers' offense did just enough, scoring four runs assisted by 3-hit games from Joey Ortiz and Christian Yelich. The first was Luis Lara, who recorded his first MLB knock in a big moment early in the game, driving in a pair. Then, Robert Gasser pitched past the sixth inning for the first time in his big league career and pitched well, giving the Brewers bullpen much-needed rest as the team grinded through an 8-game week. They jumped out to an early lead, getting home runs from Sal Frelick and Jake Bauers, but a short start from Brandon Sproat and a pair of home runs, including the go-ahead Grand Slam, from Esmerlyn Valdez saw the Brewers fall 7-6. That was in spite of a nice outing from Shane Drohan, who pitched into the sixth inning, but that wasn’t enough as the Pirates used six pitchers to limit the Brewers to just 2 runs. No furious comeback followed him either, despite a 3-hit day from Garrett Mitchell. The A’s evened the series with a 7-5 win.
