Honestly if we are talking about bringing up the best bat at AAA, Isaac Collins is probably the guy not Brewer Hicklen. Collins' surface and underlying numbers are both much better than Hicklen's.
Turang is hitting the ball harder this year. His average EV is up from 85.5 to 89.5 but he's not doing it from increasing the top end of his EV which is what EV50 measures. He's just making weak contact a lot less so far this year. Personally my favorite change with Turang this year is that he's hitting the ball on the ground more and that contact has basically entirely come from pop ups being eliminated.
2023 vs 2024 batted ball distribution
GB% - 42.5 vs 53.5
FB% - 25.1 vs 23.9
LD% - 24.1 vs 21.1
PU% - 8.3 vs 1.4
You take a guy like Turang and you remove all those pop ups for more hard hit grounders and you have a dramatically better hitter.
Janson Junk was originally listed as the starter for Nashville today. It's now Nick Bennett. Have a feeling Junk will be up for Koenig today to give the Brewers an innings eater in the back of the pen.
Unfortunately for Koenig he very well might get shuttled tomorrow. He's thrown 3 times in 4 days now for a total of 5 innings and 72 total pitches. You're probably looking at 2 days of him being unavailable now at least.
Yeah I wasn't a fan of the bunt either especially because Wiemer was behind Ortiz. I'm pretty shocked New York didn't pitch around Ortiz trying to get a chase out of him to set up a Wiemer GIDP or a strikeout.
Honestly think he should get promoted to AAA when Gasser gets added to the MLB rotation. He's been in AA for 200 innings now and has improved at a steady rate to the point where he's just a good AA pitcher now.
Knoth loads the bases with 3 BB in the 2nd inning then pitches out of it 2 strikeouts and a flyball to just short of the warning track in LF. 2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 5 SO. Might be done for the day.
Pretty incredible. It looked like a major injury the way he crumpled to the ground and was incapable of putting weight on his left leg while coming off the field.
Pretty sure Murphy said the plan with Black was 4 games a week at 1B and 2 games a week at 2B. The fact that he's only played 1 game at 3B all year definitely seems on the noteworthy side for me.
35 combined strikeouts in Carolina's 3-1 loss. Judging by hitter reactions it might have been the biggest strike zone since Greg Maddux was in Atlanta.
Nashville working a bit of a rally here in the 8th inning. Patrick Dorrian to the plate. Can he break out of his April slump? He's currently 1-42 in April.
Lots of strike outs looking in Carolina tonight. The camera angle isn't very good, but a lot of the hitters did not look pleased at the strike 3 calls on both teams. Yophery in particular looks like he had to bite his tongue.
Do they contemplate sending Ashby to AA or would they just send him to the complex league to work on stuff? Can't be good for a guys confidence to struggle this much in AAA.
So MiLB.com had Letson listed as the SP today for most of the week. Now Jesus Rivero is listed as the SP and Letson isn't listed for the rest of the series. Hopefully Letson is just second half of the piggy back this week. Birchard already went down with an injury. Don't want to see it happen to another young ranked pitcher.
