    Wood Ducks were able to bring the runner in from 2nd on their 4th try. Let's see if the Mudcats can match and send it to the 12th.

    Bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th with 1 out and Luke Adams strikes out on 3 pitches. Carolina simply beating themselves today. This game should have been over a long time ago.

    Kay-Lan Nicasia rips a line drive right at the 1B. Guilarte with some poor baserunning is easily doubled off at 2B. To the 10th we go. Whiting might need to put up another 0 because the Mudcats offense has been non-existent today.

    Gasser’s command has been really poor tonight. Looking like early season Gasser with lots of totally uncompetitive pitches.

    Yerlin Rodriguez pitches a 0 in the top of the 8th. Ideal scenario for the Mudcats to score 1 with Adams starting at 2B.

    I mean if you have a struggling reliever, I would much rather they inherit a clean inning instead of a bases loaded jam in a 2-run game. 1st and 2nd would have been a much better spot for Rodriguez as well.

    Some really poor situational hitting from the Mudcats today. They have had a runner on 3rd with 1 out 3 times today and haven't scored in any of those 3 situations.

    Reidy Mercado runs one down in the gap to end the inning and save 2 runs! 2-2 going to the bottom half of the 7th.

    And now a wild pitch. Game tied. Runners on 2nd and 3rd and 1 out. Estevez really bungled this one up.

    And he walks the first hitter he faces on 4 pitches not even remotely close to the strike zone. 2-1 Carolina leads with the bases loaded and 1 out.

    I'm really surprised Estevez just let Herrera load the bases up. Yerlin Rodriguez better have his command or the Mudcats might lose this lead.

    If the point is evaluating overall team strength, I'm not sure it matters that rookie pitchers are potentially the Brewers kryptonite because the Cubs don't exclusively play the Brewers.

    Would love Areinamo to get the BBs up but he's been a force at the plate for a while now. Driving the ball in the air pretty consistently.

    This is way too generous to the Cubs pitching. Steele is already 25 IP over his career high. Taillon hasn't been good this year and then they have 2 rookies in their rotation in Assad and Wicks.

    Also after glossing over the option rules, pitchers need to be down for 15 days before they can be recalled from AAA unless they are replacing someone who was added to the IL. The 10 is for position players. They both match up with the minimum IL stints for position players and pitchers.

    All that optioning doesn't at all seem necessary when you have a 14-man pitching staff with a 9-man bullpen.

    Congratulations to the Cubs for having three well pitched games in a row. 2 being with the wind blowing in at Wrigley and the other being against the Reds who were one of the worst hitting teams in the MLB in August with an 80 wRC+. Just give them the division now I say.

    Customary doom and gloom in the game thread before the game even started. Basically to be expected at this point.

    If Gasser doesn't get the call now tomorrow when the Brewers actually need a spot start then I doubt we see him at all this season.
