  1. Yelich and Hiura both falling off after 2019 hurts a lot here. Those were the two guys who were supposed to be the big bats in the middle of our order. Unfortunately acquiring these big bats is easier said than done. They either take a large prospect haul, a lot of money or both. This is where the Brewers inability to develop bats post Lucroy has been an issue. Thankfully we seem to be righting the ship in this department, but it might be too late to capitalize on Burnes and Woodruff's team control which is why some have suggested a soft retool for 2024 by trading one of those two for some more prospects.
  2. I've been picturing Black as a longterm 1B especially if the shift ban is a permanent change in the MLB. I'm just not sure if he has the chops to stick in the middle of the infield at the MLB level.
  3. That is a funny way of spelling Chourio will eventually be the starting CF!
  4. I hope this means they shut down Small for the year. At this point I am not sure more pitching will help Small. Think he would be better off heading to the lab.
  5. We signed Peralta and Ashby to those early deals that buy out a couple years of FA. I think the Brewers would try to do the same with young position players that show that promise (although it's hard to know because we haven't developed a legit position player since Lucroy). I will say I hope that Chourio doesn't have the same agent as Julio Rodriguez because I think it's far less likely the Brewers give out a contract like that.
  6. He's trying to get clicks and he has done a fantastic job at it over the last month with the Lauer, Cain, and Burnes articles.
  7. Yeah I mentioned it is usually early extension like (Ashby or Peralta) or extensions the year before FA (Musgrove and Berrios). Seems pretty rare for guys to get contracts in between pre-arb and final year of arb. I really just don't see any way we retain Burnes unless he takes a super team friendly contract. Short length, higher AAV contract likely puts Burnes in the $35-40M range and I just can't see the Brewers shelling out that much money per year to a SP.
  8. So I looked into pitcher extensions around the league and if a pitcher doesn't sign an early extension (Freddy and Ashby style) it is pretty rare for them to sign deals before they are FA or a year away from FA. The few that do sign extensions are usually on the team friendly side and only buy out a year of FA. Long-term extensions for pitchers just seem pretty uncommon. I think Cole might be the last mega deal for SP and we will move to smaller term with larger AAV (similar to Scherzer) style deals.
  9. SIS did a little analysis on hitters who would most benefit from the shift ban and Rowdy and Tyrone were among the players listed. Here is a link to the article if you want more details Corey Seager And Others Who Should Benefit From The Shift Ban (sportsinfosolutions.com) It says Rowdy and Taylor respectively lost 15 and 9 hits to the shift this season. I did the math and this is a slash line comparison between them currently and with those additional hits. Tellez slash would go from .228/.317/.474 to .261/.346/.507 for an OPS of .853 Tyrone slash would go from .225/.281/.441 to .253/.307/.469 for an OPS of .776 Tellez slash would go from .228/.317/.474 to .261/.346/.507 for an OPS of .853 Tyrone slash would go from .225/.281/.441 to .253/.307/.469 for an OPS of .776 Tellez slash would go from .228/.317/.474 to .261/.346/.507 for an OPS of .853 Tyrone slash would go from .225/.281/.441 to .253/.307/.469 for an OPS of .776 Tellez slash would go from .228/.317/.474 to .261/.346/.507 for an OPS of .853 Tyrone slash would go from .225/.281/.441 to .253/.307/.469 for an OPS of .776
  10. How is Uribe recovering from his knee injury? Feel like sending him there would be productive just letting him get some game action in.
  11. The Charlotte Knights hosted our Nashville Sounds this weekend and Charlotte is one of the testing teams for ball/strike challenges. I actually very much liked the system. Each team gets three challenges. You only lose a challenge if it is unsuccessful. The pitcher/catcher/batter are the only people who can challenge calls. The actual challenges only took about 10 seconds. Just overall a good system. I would love if this system was adopted for the MLB next year.
  12. It's an admittedly limited sample size but Hiura at 1B through his nearly 600 career innings is graded more favorably by DRS, UZR/150 and OAA than Rowdy is. He is also a much better baserunner than Rowdy. I'm not sure how the Brewers feel about Hiura as an everyday player with his whiff issues, but he could be an all-around upgrade over Rowdy. I think Yelich has one more year as a LF before moving primarily to DH in 2024, so Brewers will need to pick between one of Rowdy and Hiura at 1B in the next year because Rowdy, Yelich, Hiura all are guys who hit RHP better than LHP so there isn't a platoon situation available between them.
  13. After the game today this is what their big acquisitions have accomplished Soto - 32 G, 3 HR, 6 RBI and slashing .218/.381/.345 for a .726 OPS Hader - 11 G, 8.2 IP, 13.50 ERA, 2.42 WHIP Bell - 35 G, 3 HR, 11 RBI and slashing .205/.322/.307 for a .629 OPS Drury - 27 G, 5 HR, 15 RBI and slashing .220/.262/.410 for a .672 OPS The 4 have combined for 0 fWAR and -0.3 bWAR. Their record since August 3rd is 17-18. The only reason they are still in a playoff position is because we are 18-20 over the same span. Preller has a pretty extensive history of buying the shiny object even if the cost is extreme. He also loves buying players when their value is the highest (Bell and Drury were both playing well above their career norms at the deadline)
  14. Someone else will have to verify but watching the Mudcats game it looked like Eric Brown Jr changed up his pre swing routine.
  15. Wes Clarke with a 3 HR night for Biloxi and he will get at least one more AB.
  16. Knights broadcast said estimated distance on the Ruiz HR was 461 feet!!!
