I always hoped Rickie would influence Prince away from Boras, not the other way around. I don't think he'll go that direction, Rickie seems to value more than money and also seems smart enough to know that is all Boras values.
Yeah, sitting around the radio and TV with my dad, brothers, and sisters, more recently texting about games and team activities with my brothers and being in an oddly grouped bunch of fans in an e-mail group. Reading and learning on brewerfan.net. Looking forward to sharing baseball with my son.....all those years had meaning. I'm glad there was and is baseball in Milwaukee. In understand why it does; but its too bad stuff boils down to winning and losing for so many.
seems like a lot of this kind of logic is accepted in baseball maybe because its a traditional way to look at things...I had the same issues with deciding Macha's "fate" earlier this season over one series. I would like to think that more logical, big picture thinking prevails in clubhouses; but it sure doesn't seem that way sometimes. I think its safe to say that Doug has a more optimistic view of this year and next year than most fans. Maybe this is a necessity for him as a "rebuild" or "reload" may mean his job. I said it after last year and I'll say it again, having the control of a small market franchise in the hands of a short-timer who is trying to protect his job and will sacrifice long term, sustained success in favor of the current possibly unsalvageable moment is a bad idea.
That's funny, I was always under the impression that Larry H was the only one that thought Gadz had any future. Seemed obvious that he had no fundamental skills whatsoever, and I'm not talking about boxing out or post moves, I'm talking about the ability to catch a ball. The day we signed Gadz (and consequently waived goodbye to a VERY solid player in Pachulia) I threw pillows in frustration.
If we are only talking about what is probable there wouldn't even be a thread about this. And if people are going to pull out the "there's no way I would even consider it" card, then yes I think we do have to go there. I've seen the backlash against the "sell high" attitude here, and I understand that; but selling high should always be part of the discussion IMO...it just realistically would not be done nearly as often as it is brought up.
So, theoretically, if a team offered more than you think Axford is worth you would not consider it? Being young, effective, cheap, and under control does have a lot of value independent of the closer label, so it would have to be a knock-out offer.
I understand the concept that teams tend to overvalue the "closer" label and therefore we may be able to get back more than a player would normally be worth if he is labelled as such. Any time you could trade a person for more than their real value, you should consider it, so I think its a valid question. However, the brewers overvalue closers as much as everyone else does, so it's not happening.
I love this move, it seems like a perfect fit. I think they are done signing for the PG position. Dooling, Hobson, and Delfino can fill in. If it is longer term, they could just sign a guy like Diener off the street. I'm with you Tri on wishing they had not signed Gooden.
I think he was talking about Cox. I agree though, I may have missed something; but I've never heard a manager complain to MLB about being hit too much. You generally either just lump it or retaliate. The number probably has to do with pitchers having seen what Braun and Fielder do when you don't establish the inside corner. Weeks has always been a HBP machine just because of his style.
They didn't side step the rules, they played by the rules. Its protection of an investment and was a smart move. I would care if he was thrown out of baseball, and I think it says something about his intelligence that he let it get to this point; but I couldn't care less if he smokes pot.
I went into a conversation with my wife to make a case for upgrading our phones (DROID) and getting a full data package. By the end of the conversation we had compromised on keeping the same phones/data plans and getting rid of cable...wait....what? Well played.
Seems to me that something is going on league-wide offensively driving stats (particularly HR's) down. I have a hard time believing it is less PED use (conspiracy theory: maybe that's what they want us to think), so maybe they wound the balls looser again or whatever and it seems to be impacting players differently. Just looking at league-wide era's and hr #'s tells me that something is going on. Braun/Fielder might have gotten used to crushing golf balls a mile and are having trouble adjusting their game. So there's my conspiracy theory.
bump, see my first post for a description of our project. Pepsi fixed a glitch for our project yesterday and we went from 350th (dead last) to 233 in a matter of 24 hours. We are currently putting some heat on them to compensate us for the lost days. Either way, vote, vote, vote, and thank you!
