  2. Thanks for the analysis Tri...glad to know there are some numbers that back up what my eyes tell me about Gooden. Boo. Hopefully I'm wrong, Skiles works his magic, whatever because I love the rest of this team.
  3. That seems pretty unfair considering most of what he was doing was trying to undo damage from the previous GM, and trying to set himself up for what he's doing now. The Gooden and Salmons deals are lengthy, especially for guys that talent and age, and I don't need to go into how much I dislike Gooden as a player anymore; but we will be a deep, talented team next year any way you slice it and that's a far cry from where we were when Hammond took over.
  4. every day is a good day to vote! Thanks to all who support us!
  5. Thanks Casey, thanks hoser. We're looking for a big push tonight and tomorrow!
  6. Hopefully OK to post this here. My place of employment is going after a $50,000 grant for our Leaving Homelessness behind program. This particular program is funded 100% through private grants and donations...i.e. no government money. The program basically helps pay rent and provides good case management (if I do say so myself) for previously homeless families (only families with kids) in Brown County. We continue to pay as long as they are working on the skills they need to improve upon so they do not become homeless again (personal counseling, aoda counseling, tenant/renting skills, budgeting, anger management, time management, etc...). The money also goes toward staffing costs for the program (me : ) ), and events like workshops and retreats. If you aren't familiar with the Pepsi Refresh Project, whichever one has the most votes in the $50,000 category at the end of the month gets the grant. Vote every day if you want to! Here's the link: http://www.refresheverything.com/end-homelessness Thanks! (edit: fixed link --1992)
  7. If Davis is forced in I'd like to see Narveson in the pen. I think he's a valuable asset there and seems to do OK without more irregular work.
  8. he's worse because he thinks he's better than he is.
  9. The only thing he does well is rebound. He puts up many bad shots, lazy/undisciplined defense, turnovers, and personally I don't care for his demeanor/attitude. I really don't get it. I will hate every minute that he's on the floor when someone else that deserves it isn't.
  10. Drew Gooden sucks. I hate this move...first move I've hated in a while.
  11. Just my opinion; but it seemed like Wolf was being unnecessarily/disproportionately difficult to work with for Lucroy. No way to measure if Lucroy has had an effect, not sure there ever will be a good way to measure effect that if it exists.
  12. How many catches and yards do I have in my flag football career? Intramural/rec basketball stats?
  13. There is no way he out OBP's Weeks...maybe ever.
  14. Prince hired Boras to do that. Prince seems to thrive on personal tranquility and that is something Boras places no value on. Either Prince doesn't recognize that in himself, doesn't realize that money is the only thing Boras values, or wants it this way for some reason.
  15. yes, sorry. That was me saying something stupid and uncalled for http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I'll edit to make it more clear. You make a good point though, and one I'd forgotten having dealt with anxiety myself: you never know what will make the difference and break that cycle. Whatever it takes is whatever it takes.
  16. This has been the problem all along. A team with a financial situation like the Brewers cannot afford short term thinking for very long. The CC deal was a calculated risk to make a run at the title; but we've been in "win now at all costs" since then. Doing that on a budget means overpaying for marginal players. Since we waited so long to shift our drafting philosophy toward pitching, those are the holes we needed to fill with mediocre guys. The sooner we get back to the original plan, the better. Unfortunately this lapse in philosophy resulted in wasted money and has likely cost us at least a couple of years if/until our minor league pitching starts producing at the major league level.
  17. from Handricourt's article today, here's the link: From JS Online today NOT FROM THE ARTICLE, MY OPINION: Sounds like this was far from a mutual decision; which I had assumed for some reason. In general, I'm having trouble linking the position a person plays to their emotional well being. I could see needing to step away from baseball all together; but if he thinks there is less stress in the outfield, he's never been out there to be heckled by opposing (or your own) fans. If he thinks it takes less focus, he's wrong. If anything, it takes more discipline to remain focused on every pitch. At any position there is always the stress of hitting slumps. This is one of those cases where the grass may seem greener; but whatever issues he has to deal with him will need to be dealt with regardless of position, and this decision reduced his value and had to have ticked off the parent club. My guess is that we will never see Salome playing for the Brewers at the major league level.
  18. yeah, probably should have said "I think" in front of that. I see Escobar as a young player whose current and long term value lies primarily in defense working out the kinks in that area. His offense now is about what I expected, I expect it to improve; but not be the reason he's kept around.
  19. I understand what you are saying; but players are not just interested in maximizing their value to the team, they are interested in getting to the show. The Brewers as an organization seem to give their players a good amount of say in where they play positionally for better or worse. On being blocked, Weeks may not be around forever, all the talk about Lawrie since he became a second baseman has him changing positions, and Farris is far from a proven roadblock at that position. Escobar is here for the duration of his Brewer controlled years.
  20. average major league second basemen does not = inadequate shortstop. They involve different skill sets. I agree that this quote is all about fastest path to the majors, which right now does not run through Escobar's position.
  21. At some level, I can understand letting performance dictate pt; but if we are seriously going game by game, start by start, matchup by matchup I have a big problem with that. Shouldn't coaches as ground level talent evaluators be able to pick the players they think are most talented/best and start those players? Knowing what we do about how luck plays into results, it is an indefensible action to use such small samples to dictate who we play/start. Is Capuano a better option than Narveson/Bush/Davis/etc... or not? The next few starts will reveal very little as far as fact...seems like we've just been sitting the fence all year on center field, right field, our pitching staff, our lineup, and catcher to some extent and I think that's a big part of the issues we are having.
  22. Just in case any Twitter users were unaware of this. Between the Brewer minor league info, swearing, and the funny jokes, he is well worth a follow. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  23. yeah, I don't have a BIG problem with skipping Bush (although I don't agree with it); but its another mention of lack of communication from Macha, this time from a pretty established professional rather than a source of questionable maturity (McClung). These guys aren't children or robots, you can't just order them around and not expect to have to explain or get people to buy into your decisions. People can disagree, and that doesn't have to change the decision; but at least have the decency to discuss it fully. I look at communication as the major part of a managers job...heck, communicate and get out of the way and I'm pretty happy.
  24. I'm as loyal to Melvin as they come; but his one really angers me.
  25. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/95022184.html Looks like Lucroy will be paired with Wolf and maybe another pitcher. Feels like enough PT.....for now So far, I don't like how Brian Anderson says "Lucroy" with the emphasis on the "luke"
