  1. today my boss said he would eat a mouse for a mere $100. he was talking to three of us, and i immediately offered up my $33, but they wouldn't chip in. really needing to see this, i offered up $50--only $25 for each of them to get to watch a guy eat a mouse--still nothing. I'd eat a mouse for free if it were prepared right. I paid good money to eat grilled pig colon, fried shrimp heads, squid beaks, raw whale, and horse tongue in Japan.
  2. Software translations between English and Japanese are about as reliable as Mike Hampton. My girlfriend's friend back in Japan keeps sending her emails that she proudly translates into English with babelfish or something of that sort. You can't really decipher any meaning from any of them.
  3. Jeffrey Hammonds. I actually remember the exact moment I found out. I was in the garden section at Wal Mart when a friend called me to break the news, and I did like 7 fist pumps.
  4. If Bill Hill ain't included, I ain't buying it. I'm getting sharper, this is now the second April Fool's trade that I knew was a joke before I clicked.
  5. I land in Phoenix on Thursday. I've never been to spring training before, so I'm pretty pumped about it.
  6. If we assume it's true, we'd have a hard time judging which direction the causal arrow points. When I'm having a rough time, I'm most likely to go to the bars, but drinking didn't cause the problem, it's what I did to go blow off steam when things were annoying. Hall may indeed have been partying a lot, but the probability may have increased when he started sucking at his job.
  7. Not sure who coined the nickname, but I believe it was after a google image search for "Hernan" returned an image of a hurricane by that name.
  8. Anybody who sucks or is overpaid. In theory, I'd be willing to see the Brewers sign any jerk for league min if he was good. I'd need to have near-undeniable proof of serious problems before I'd say I'd never want a talented player on the Brewers. Even Bradley, if he were super cheap, I'd be fine with, as they could release him after he acts up. In practice, my list will probably be the same as most other posters' because I'd never want that guy on the Brewers for what he's getting paid.
  9. Never owned a dishwasher. Never purchased a car less than 4 years old, and never financed any of them. Never drank a smootie. Never been hunting. Never been in Cliff Clavin's kitchen.
  10. I picked up this one a while back for $549 with free shipping and it has worked flawlessly. I use my laptop just a little more intensively than you (light data analysis, downloading podcasts, browsing with 3-4 windows open at all times, organizing powerpoint presentations, etc), and it hasn't been the least bit sluggish.
  11. When I was in grad school they offered all students insurance for just under a grand per year. It wasn't great insurance (very limited providers, had to go through health services to get any kind of off-campus referral in most cases), but the price is pretty fantastic.
  12. Teams have wised up, and aren't shelling out huge money for non-elite players due to the economy. This seems to be the case. It's like with any other commodity: if you have something that you can hold out for huge money for because of it's scarcity and value, you can end up raking in the cash. However, if you have a commodity for which there are many cheaper substitutes, holding out for more money leaves you with commodities that rot in storage somewhere. There are numerous substitutes for Lopez and Washburn, but relatively few for Prince or Alex Rodriguez. Don't like what he wants for Washburn? Sign Davis. Don't like what he wants for Prince? Better hope you can make up that offense by making multiple upgrades at other positions.
  13. I spray laundry pre-treat all over the hat, and then take a dish brush to the band and sweaty areas. Then I put it under running warm water wash and keep brushing until the water runs pretty clear. If I can, I let it dry on my head, or else I dry it upside-down with the bill curved into a cup to keep its form.
  14. Nah man, Chuck-E-Cheese tokens. No matter what happens, people will still have a hunger for Skee-Ball. They make up 10% of my portfolio and I'm gonna laugh at all you suckers when the economy is in shambles and you're stuck holding stocks. I'll trade you a couple of tokens for your portfolios to hold my massive amounts of skee-ball tickets in. Most people who proclaim gold as the ultimate investment are either paid by gold investment companies, or are speculators who are currently making a killing talking paranoid people into stashing their money in gold. Sure, it's OK to have, but so are T-Bills, Euros and Yen. Society is not crumbling anytime soon, as the same percentage of people have declared it inevitable in our country since it began.
  15. Its really not a joke mostly because its a contract year. If he wants to get a decent contract to be a starter in this league again, he is going to have to make the starting rotation and pitch well. All the motivation in the world ain't gonna help Suppan. You could tell me "you'll get $50 Million and have a guarantee of a long happy life if you can start 30 games and have an ERA under 6.00 in the major leagues" and I'd still be somewhere around 80.00 (my guess at what a BP pitcher would put up). Suppan's talent level acts as a ceiling that would prevent drive and motivation from leading to success. My prediction is Parra. The guy just has too much talent to continue looking mediocre. Something just needs to "click" again for him.
  16. Not to belabor the point but if your credit was ruined because of a divorce or something similar all you have to do is provide an LOX (letter of explanation). The other thing you can do is take a settlement on the outstanding fees. Normally you can settle for 40 cents on the dollar max so this could have cleared up your credit long ago. I do have the marital separation agreement that puts her on the hook for everything (aside from my medical bills), but that will probably only do me any good with a mortgage or major loans. Otherwise, they just stamp "no" on the application. I couldn't pay the debt off, because until 4 years in, I was a student, so 40-50% of 25 grand or so was just more than I could spend to help my credit. Plus, the collection agencies were pretty much never willing to settle for that little, they wanted more like 75-80%, and in the case of her car loan, all of it. By the time I finally made enough to pay some of that crap off, I only had to wait 3 more years before it went off my report, and I had $54K in student loans that I'd rather pay off than my ex's debt.
  17. Remember: If your names on debt, and one of you doesn't pay it. It counts against YOUR credit. I found that out the hard way. The credit fallout was the worst part of the divorce - far worse than any other source of emotional stress. I couldn't even get a Sony store card with a $500 limit and last time I tried to get a car loan, one place said no, and the other offered me one at 18.59% interest. I pull down a nice salary and should have nothing negative on my credit except a medical bill my insurance refused to pay (because they said the hospital charged an unusual amount and they'd only pay the standard rate) that I simply could not pay until 2 years later. She, however, stopped paying 2 loans and about 6 credit cards on top of running up a $1957 cell phone bill (this was before "no roaming fee" plans) on a shared account. Next year will mark 7 years, and I'll finally be able to buy a new house.
  18. Get a lawyer. It makes the whole thing a lot easier to swallow. The last thing you want to deal with when going through personal trouble is a mountain of paperwork and trying to figure out how the courts work. Even if you guys agree on everything, a lawyer will still make life a lot easier.
  19. For the past few years, I've said before every season that things will be better this year because nobody in our rotation sucks. This move keeps that streak alive, even though I fear Bush will lead me to recant like he did last year and in '07.
  20. Pending physical? Done. We did it via webcam.
  21. Does Jay Leno still repeat the same jokes every night, all week long? Pretty much. Leno is my absolute least-favorite late night host. As someone else said, he must appeal to older people, maybe those who thought "Wild Hogs" was funny; it just seems like bad "dad humor" to me. Exactly. Leno is like Favre and Conan is like Rodgers. Its feels the same. Except Favre had some talent left.
  22. I got sweet deal on a Sony Vaio NW from newegg, and I think they've run the deal since then. Windows 7, 250GB, 4GB, $550 with free shipping & no sales tax. I buy Sony products any time they're comparably priced, as I've yet to have any Sony product fail prematurely. Of course, the proprietary parts (produo cards for cameras, etc) irk a lot of people, but you can often find those cheap enough online.
  23. Not only that, I am lead to believe by talking to others that I could potentially surf the web and stream other things through the PS3 and onto the television, rather than the computer. You can stream YouTube and Netflix, but that's about it, because... Hulu for example blocks the PS3. Other streaming video sites have talked about it as well. And given how java intensive the MLB site is you might have problems since Sony doesn't do updates as quickly as PC browsers would. Now you could find an old PS3 and load linux on it if you feel so inclined and that would eliminate all those issues but its still rather clunky. ...PS3 doesn't allow you to install plugins, flash, or anything of that sort. So you're kinda limited on what you can watch. Now, there is a way to use your Windows 7 PC as a media server and play through PS3, but I haven't really tried that out yet. Still, this would have to be downloaded files, not streaming content. You can only watch YouTube because it, as I understand, works like a smartphone application, rather than working through a bonafide flash player. Now, in the past you could get around all of this by installing Linux on your PS3, but I believe the newest firmware versions have now put an end to all of this. The PS3 does or did at least require a disc to use Netflix at first. This was going to be fixed in a patch, but I don't know if that patch is out yet. PS3 still requires a disk because Microsoft has an exclusivity deal with Netflix that makes 360 the only machine that can have built-in Netflix streaming capabilities. From what I hear, it will be very easy for PS3 to do the same thing through a simple update, but they can't do it until Microsoft's deal expires. All this said, your best bet is to buy a laptop with a good video card and HDMI out and just run that into your TV. I kick myself for not doing that, as I'd love to get mlb.tv and use my plasma as a monitor, plus I could watch hulu and nbc.com. I can still do VGA to component video for like a $20 adapter, though, so perhaps I'll think about that next season.
  24. ...and I liked Dawson as a player and person. I spent nearly 18 years copulating him.
  25. I've used TaxAct, and it was pretty good for my purposes. However, I just own a single home and have a single source of income (ie one employer with no investment income) and no kids or other substantial deductions. So I don't know how it'll be with complicated situations.
