  1. I'm with several others in that we should be firmly in "I'll only trade him to you if you're a compulsive idiot" mode right now. If someone makes a dumb enough offer, I'd be fine trading Fielder, Braun, and Gallardo, but the chance of any of those offers being made is roughly the same as a Jared Fernandez 20-win season. There's absolutely no rush to trade Prince; may as well make another potential playoff run with him and take what may end up being only nominally less when he has just one year left.
  2. I'd recommend a PS3 if they ever go through with a price cut to $299 and you didn't presumably have a bunch of money invested in 360 games. I still just can't believe how common the RROD problem is.
  3. Way too many big name players for me to think that it's a legitimate list. It's like someone went through every team's 2003 roster and picked out three or four top players from every team, and then threw in a few lesser known players to make it seem credible. I agree, this is hooey. The real list would undoubtedly be more like the Mitchell Report and include way more scrap heapers, has-beens, and journeymen trying to get ahead, rather than the top performers.
  4. It'd be awesome if he gets a Bill Brasky style funeral, filled with exaggerations and pitches. His eulogy should be an impersonator trying to sell him as "the last pitchman you'll ever need".
  5. Burns and McClung do not belong in any contenders rotations. One of them do, as economic reality means your #5 is gonna be weak, even for a playoff team. The problem is that we have too many weak starters, not simply that we have them.
  6. How do you throw your life away on weed? It's like wasting a shot at millions of dollars and a dream job because you won't give up caffeine.
  7. I actually was hoping he ate himself into ineffectiveness. He'd be OK, and they'd be out an ace and enough to bail out GM.
  8. Untouchable, always needs to be thought of as "nobody will offer us enough". Of course you trade anybody for the right return, but it doesn't seem to be surprising news that the Brewers would say "it's very unlikely that there will be someone available who we value enough to trade these two guys. Further, those players we would take in return are very unlikely to be offered to us for Gamel or Escobar". Instead of being long-winded, you say "untouchable".
  9. Another nationally-televised game and AGAIN they show a New York team instead. I still hate that entire city. Luckily, our next national game is against New York, so I'll actually get it, unless Boston or the Yankees are playing at that time.
  10. Maybe signing a player from another league should cost a draft pick. If NY or Bos want the next Asian star, they can sign them but then lose a first round pick the next draft. Nobody gets the pick, there's just one less pick that year. This has always been my favored solution. For all international FA's, you lose a draft pick based on how much you paid. Most latin American kids shouldn't cost a pick because they don't get paid much, but deals that go above $1MM should cost you, beginning with a 3rd rounder. So the Yankees can go ahead and sign Darvish, but the deal costs them their 1st rounder. It's like FA compensation, but this "compensation" goes to every team without a huge wallet in the form of a 1-slot advancement after what'd be your pick in the draft
  11. Donte Stallworth for killing someone while driving drunk and only getting 24 days in jail, it must be nice to be rich and get away with whatever you want. What also bugs me is that he might be playing football before Michael Vick (who I hate and am not defending, FWIW).
  12. I know we were spoiled last year and saw that we can get the trade deadline's top prize, but we just aren't going to be able to do that every year. As much as I'd like to see us go out and get a #1 again, I'd be more than happy with a 4.00-4.25 ERA guy with durability who at minimum closes the gaping wound that was Parra's spot in the rotation.
  13. So, the Brewers are supposed to be on Fox today, right? I go to set my DVR since I'll miss the early innings, only to find out that here we get Yankees-Mets. I hate the entire city of New York, everyone there, and everyone who has ever said good things about it.
  14. My prediction: 37 home runs, a new record for most pitches laid off, and all 10 outs via swings and misses. I really wish sometimes that they went with metal bars for the derby, as it'd be just crazy to see what those guys could do with aluminum. Branyan would leave 300 bodies in his wake.
  15. You built up a little suspense by delaying the bar photo so long. After I got to about the 5th pic without seeing a bar, I thought maybe you really messed up.
  16. I get peeved when my supervisees give 2 weeks. Even in this economy, it's pretty much impossible to find an adequate replacement in under a month. I gave my last company 5 weeks and they were thankful, as a replacement wasn't found until I'd been gone for a month. You're going back to school, so give 'em a month, and if they then fire you, you qualify for unemployment, right? Sounds like a nice consolation prize.
  17. Those shirts are just not very sweet. That whole style is 80's white trash metal shirts re-hashed and packaged as upscale fashion. If you're into that kinda thing I've got a bunch of old Zubaz, a neon Columbia Bugaboo, teal Rollerblades, and a Megadeth T-shirt with worn out armpits to sell for $59.99 each.
  18. So I just bought a T-Mobile G1 phone, and there are a ton of apps, but I have no idea what rules, and what sucks. Does anyone else own this phone and know which ones I've gotta have, as well as what seems cool but sucks in practice? Also, if anyone has general recommendations and tips for the phone, that be appreciated as well.
  19. I don't see a problem with the current policy. Price discrimination is a pretty common business practice - if someone is willing to go through a lot more work and waiting for a $16 savings, they can go ahead. For me, I'd never accept a $16 payoff for 2+ hours of waiting outside in a line, as there are many better ways for me to save cash. As long as it's one ticket per fan and seating policy is enforced, I wouldn't mind that people paid less than me and had to wait for crappy seats when I printed mine out at home and waltzed up to the gate.
  20. I'm happy we don't have all the threads defending Sheets health. If it was such a non-issue, he'd be signed by now. Teams don't want to give up picks for him because they know he's a liability. Of course health is an issue, the guy had arm surgery, so I'm completely unsure who you're arguing with here. Sheets will cost a first round pick AND may not pitch all year, definitely not until after he doesn't cost a pick to sign AND is going to want a short contract to regain value, which all add up to him being unsigned.
  21. Heath Bell is 14 for 14 in save opportunities, has a 0.46 ERA, and is giving up less than 1 walk or hit per IP. I'd never really appreciated Bell until I watched him pitch in AZ last week, dude ain't bad. I was disappointed when I checked and found out Bell, though in his 6th season, has just over 3 years of service time. When I just looked at seasons played (6), I thought it'd be sweet if we could replace Hoffman with the same guy SD replaced him with when he walks.
  22. I don't know about the location, but it had the estimated power of a very large nuclear bomb. I've never read that it had the power to bring human extinction - just wipe out Moscow if it had hit there. Edit: went back and read a book chapter I have on it, and I was confusing it with a generic example.
  23. The meteor must have run the 4-way stop between Pumapunku and the Egyptian Pyramids and slammed into an inattentive UFO driver who was busy probing a Nebraska farmer.
  24. One possible way to really hit players hard would be amending the CBA to include a clause that contracts can be voided any time between the first day of the suspension and first day of free agency if you test positive. That would make struggling players or those who are well-paid less likely to take them. That, or a player who tests positive can sign for no more than 80% of the rate he made that year for the following 3 years. This lets guys return to baseball, but unable to land a huge deal for inflated numbers.
