  1. As has been said, the biggest thing you need to focus on now is simply not screwing up. Freshman year of college is pretty easy academically, but lots of people get caught up in the fun and excitement of being independent and flunk out - now they're assistant shift managers at mall stores. I lived with my parents freshman year and actually had my best year (3.89 GPA, I believe), and my grades weren't solid because I was way smarter than my peers, but I was way more focused and way less likely to be up until 4:00 am wasted on school nights.

  3. Trades aren't all about talent, they're about finances too. When you take on an extra $3M over what the guy is objectively worth, you don't need to give up top-flight prospects, you just have to be willing to take the full salary. There will almost definitely be a chance to get quality players without touching our top five prospects, but it'll require a loosening of the pocketbook.
  4. Awesome news on Lucroy. So much for the thought that he'd be a tough sign. Jack Z and Melvin are too nasty at their business to let that happen.
  5. How about some really fancy class rings?
  6. Crawford is a fine player, but I think he sometimes gets a tad overrated around here. I'd love to score the guy in a trade, but I wouldn't want to give up a guy who just last year was a monster AND a top-flight AAA pitching prospect AND a valuable veteran for him. That's way too much.
  7. When I don't want to simply repeat what others have said, I resort to hyperbole. You complete me, Colby.
  8. I don't think I've ever been mad with a thread being locked here, other than a few select times when it was one idiot ruining a good discussion, in which case I feel they should have been banned instead of locking an otherwise useful thread. As much as this board is policed compared to other boards, you see it's necessary when you compare the disciplinary styles. Other boards are garbage because there's zero control over flaming, trolling, and other forms of wasting one's life alone in an apartment full of Lord of the Rings figurines.
  9. To echo what Brian said, "been there, done that". It just won't work, because all you need is about 2 or 3 drama queen idiots to absolutely destroy any semblance of civility. We most certainly have plenty of folks here who simply could not handle such a Pandora's Box being opened when they sometimes can't be civil discussing how much Corey Hart should be playing. The discourse now, because of the site's growth, would be way worse than 2004. "I think Bush's approach to this issue..." "U wud bcuz UR a LOOSER!!!!!!!!! P'WND!!!!!!!!!!!!"
  10. I don't know if Hamilton and Dukes are good comps. Hamilton was a decent kid who got into drugs and was a waste of space for a few years. Dukes, on the other hand, has reportedly had trouble following close behind him his whole life. At least Hamilton had a period you could point to and say "if he can just go back to this".
  11. Wow, I always thought you just put a worm on a hook and prayed. Interesting stuff! Nah, that's only when you're drunk. For those at all interested, this is what I'm talking about. http://www.probassfishing.ca/articles/images/Senko-Texas-Style.jpg
  12. Since the tile won't take the beating, traffic, and foundation shifting of being on a floor, all you'd need to do is affix it with a decent flooring tile adhesive and wouldn't need to space the tiles and lay grout.
  13. Wow, unable to bench 185 is really bad for any pro athlete in a sport that's at all physical. I did that when I was 14, and was maybe one of 2 or 3 guys on my 8th grade team who was that strong. Of course, this isn't gonna hurt Durant at all because there isn't a close #3 behind him and Oden for him to fall behind.
  14. I've read about swimsenkos in magazines and seen them in stores, but you're the first actual person I've heard talk about them. What is the movement like? How does it compare to a standard Senko stick? I assume you just swim them weightless (Like a Sluggo) as opposed to just letting them sink and using a very slow retrieval.
  15. The bulldawgs may be a little rich for my blood. They do look a lot like some of the curly tail swimming shads I like though. That, and I'm really looking at salt-impregnated worms I can finesse fish along the beds - everyone says salt is a necessity (and that Senkos work because they have a ton of salt) when they move this slow, since they're held onto longer by bass.
  16. You know, if I was ever gonna have a felony charge on my record, I'd want it to be "felony mayhem".
  17. So, I've finally become a believer in soft plastics, notably, the Kinami Flash/Yamasenko. I'd never had any luck with soft plastics, but I was using Kreature or Brush Hog type soft plastics and finally decided to go with the stickbaits when the lake I fish simply got too weedy to use anything with exposed hooks. I've found the Kinami Flash Chartreuse Shad to be absolutely deadly, as I caught 17 bass in 3 hours Sunday - by far my best day of the year. On the heels of this success, I wanted to know what else everyone uses. I hear Yum Dingers (or Tiki sticks) work alright but with a different fall rate, and are cheaper. I use a Gamakatsu 3/0 or 4/0 hook, anyone have a favorite method? Finally, and this is my biggest issue, the sticks tend to twist your line up something fierce, does anyone have experience with barrel swivels when using these worms? I assume it'd take the twist out, but I fear the weight would mess with that slow fluttering fall.
  18. Armament very poor and what's the MPG? Considering it has a 6hp Tecumseh, I'd guess MPG is actually very good. However, that makes me seriously doubt the 40 mph top-speed claims.
  19. At a graduation party in Howe(TX) tonight and tried it. Meh. Wow, is Howe still the jumping hotbed of activity in the region? I suppose you can jump on up to Clark's BBQ, but I feel bad for anyone who went on vacation and ended up in Grayson County. Chill was being sold and promoted quite a while before I moved out of Texas. They had the girls in tight shorts handing it out down there early this spring.
  20. Its about as justified as all the hype that Corey Hart gets on this site. Yeah, that whole ".900+ OPS in AAA at age 23 and 24, Southern League MVP, never really struggled at any level" stuff just gets way overblown. Edit: really ironic that Hart doubled just as I posted this.
  21. For Capellan, I think I'd do it to try to push the team over the top and go for broke this year. Lidge has rebounded while he's been dominant in the past. That said, guys who can close have a propensity to be overvalued by dumb GMs, which could mean a hefty price at the deadline.
  22. I've thought of sitting in on a few interesting classes before, because really - in a large lecture, who would ever notice? I never went past the thought stage though. This story is an extreme case of that I guess. I did it at Eau Claire once. My friend and I both had class and mine was canceled, so I went with him to a huge lecture hall class and he knew there'd be no test or attendance taken. Honestly, I can't see that but being anything but a big ego boost to a professor even if you're ever caught, though.
  23. sorry mothership but 25-30 tops isn't very good. I get that in mixed driving with most of it coming from city driving. I'm not saying it's great, but it's much better than behemoth SUV's that get lumped into the same category and isn't worse than many mid-sized cars. Many small SUVs have a similar or better EPA rating than the Chrysler 300 (15 city 22 Hwy), but the Chrysler doesn't have the stigma attached to it. Even the 4x4 Jeep Compass and Patriot get 22 cty 27 hwy with the small engine option. and if your cherokee was 4 a 4 wheel drive hemi, you'd get, and i quote rainier wolfcastle here, "1 highway, 0 city." Yeah, it's 2wd with a 4 cyl, the same size as my '89Ford Tempo had. That's why the city EPA mileage is the same as the Tempo while Hwy is 3 mpg less.
  24. Beast Light, If you read earlier discussions on this site, you'll see that Fatter Than Joey is no proponent of personal responsibility. His opinions on this come as no surprise to me at all. And if one reads your posts, they'll see you're no proponent of the avoidance of taking every possible opportunity to rock the boat. I'm really unsure what you intended to add with that post, other than an attempt to create a big stink and eventually frame yourself as a martyr.
  25. I think it's really hard to prove with any certainty that the bar served someone who was clearly intoxicated. To be certain, you'd need to prove that the person didn't simply have a sober friend ordering drinks for him, or that he didn't have a mammoth tolerance that would create the illusion that he's sober. If you can act sober, and go from one bartender to another, none of them would know how many drinks you had. Also, what if you're still kinda sober but then order a pitcher for the table and drink it all yourself? What if you just had 2 shots in 5 minutes and they haven't kicked in? It just seems so speculative and subjective to me. Since this was a restaurant bar, it's maybe a little more clear-cut, but it's still shaky. I don't know how you'd ever prove it if this were in a nightclub filled with 300 people.
