  1. The Rave is basically a dump, but you can see some cool shows there. You just have to not mind being elbow to elbow with people in a cramped space and disregard the rude staff people.
  2. I don't know. The HR Derby is one thing (it's basically just an exhibition for charity), but I think most of the players do care about playing in the All-Star Game itself.
  3. Yeah, was just discussing that on Twitter. I'm glad to hear Melvin is at least investigating both Furcal and Hardy. I'm thinking more and more that Baltimore will not re-sign and be willing to deal him this month. Just not sure what they would want in return at this point.
  4. My wife noticed the guy falling and started freaking out while we were watching last night. I didn't believe her at first...then rewound the DVR and saw it. The stupid thing is that the guy wasn't even really that close to the ball. He was probably 10-15 feet away from it. After the tragedy in Texas last week, you would think people wouldn't take such dumb risks. MLB is going to have to do something to protect people from themselves. Maybe make PA announcements before and during the game, warning fans not to reach over railings for balls.
  5. That can happen with any player. He's been healthy this season, and I would think the chances of him staying healthy the rest of this year should be relatively high. IIRC, he was hurt in a play at third base in 2009. 2010, I'm not sure of the circumstances of his injuries, but he still played in 124 games.
  6. I think the IRS defines anything that improves your economic standing as taxable income, including gifts (I think that excludes gifts from relatives up to a certain point annually, but I could be wrong). I doubt the IRS is concerned about "publicity".
  7. It's not about helping the Cubs. It's about fixing at least one black hole in our lineup. For the value he would bring to the Brewers right now, I think he would be worth paying $8 million or so over the rest of this season. Ramirez is probably still able to play better defense than McGehee as well (I admit I haven't seen enough of him this season to know for sure).
  8. Heard this guy could be taxed anywhere between $5,000-13,000 for the items he received in exchange for the ball. I would hope the Yankees cover that tax bill for him.
  9. Is that really any kind of real concern at this point, though?
  10. I don't know how well the ball was carrying last night. The high center field wall robbed a few home runs, particularly from Prince in his final round. I agree with others that it was kind of a lame Derby overall. Crowd seemed dull, and I don't think the captain format added anything.
  11. I would love a trade like this. Can't stand A-Ram, but he is a good player and would be a huge upgrade over McGehee right now. His .843 OPS would look amazing behind Prince.
  12. Maybe next time, Rickie.
  13. Stupid chat room won't let me log in. Keeps saying I'm an unregistered guest.
  14. I really don't see a huge need in the bullpen. They have plenty of good arms. A few guys scuffled recently, but overall our relief corps has been a position of strength this year. If Melvin can get a decent lefty without giving up much, fine. I just don't want to see another Scott Linebrink type of trade this year. It isn't needed.
  15. I've been saying for a while that a Wilson/Counsell platoon would probably be an upgrade over Betancourt, but it wouldn't be a huge one. Melvin really just needs to find a defensively solid shortstop with even a mediocre bat. As others in this thread have said, Reyes isn't going to happen. Furcal might be a possibility if he's healthy.
  16. I wasn't suggesting just dealing Gamel for any old rental. Now, if the Mets were offering Jose Reyes for Gamel, I think you'd have to look at it (injury issues aside). I wouldn't be eager to do it, but I think it would have to be considered. Reyes is a guy good enough to put us over the top in the division race. Realistically, a trade scenario involving Mat Gamel is probably going to involve more pieces than a straight up one-for-one trade.
  17. Agreed. I think Melvin will at least explore options this off-season. As far as right now, if they could get a good shortstop for Gamel, I think you have to think about trading him.
  18. It sounds like this was pre-planned, and I'm guessing there are other circumstances surrounding Schroeder's absence, as others have speculated. No need to be so judgmental when you don't know the whole story.
  19. If it was a Brewers player, I would probably exchange it for a signed ball and/or bat, along with a picture with the player. If it was a really huge milestone, maybe ask for some tickets to a future game or something like that. As far as Jeter or any other big star with another team, I would hold out for cash. $250K is really peanuts to Jeter and the Yankees.
  20. Hadn't realized that Mike Cameron was picked up by the Florida Marlins last week. Looks like his career has a little bit of time left.
  21. My prediction at the beginning of the year was that the Brewers would win 88 games, and I think that could be enough to win the division at this point.
  22. He just needs to speak up. He sounds too soft, like he's doing a PGA event. Other than that, I like his insights. I actually don't mind Schroeder, but Cirillo is a nice change of pace and I wouldn't mind him being a regular part of the broadcasts.
  23. Yeah, kind of silly since it doesn't look like too much rain should hit Milwaukee either (at least according to my layman's reading of the radar).
  24. Thing about Scrapetta is that he's still only 22 years old, so he has time to develop. Brewers are probably worried about having a long reliever in the pen today if Wolf scuffles.
