  1. He might as well just take what he can get for Fielder right now and deal with the consequences. That sounds all well and fine. However, the problem is that there seems to be no interest in Fielder at all right now. I mean, have we heard even one solid rumor yet about a team having real interest in Prince? Sure, we've heard speculation that maybe the White Sox or a team like the Orioles or Rangers, "might be interested." But that's it. No rumors on any offers, nothing. I don't think there is a market for him at all. Maybe that will change later this winter if some team gets desperate and thinks Prince could be the last piece they need to make a big playoff run. But how likely is that to actually happen? I think we're basically stuck with him going into next season. Melvin had better hope that the team is highly competitive and Prince has somewhat of a rebound season, or he's going to have to trade him in July for scraps.
  2. Well, I think there is some logic to Melvin's comments about that. However, I agree that it isn't good to make deals in sports with such hard and fast rules in mind. I think he really misjudged the trade market for Fielder. Not sure if that's his fault or not, though.
  3. About the most I would feel comfortable giving Fielder would be about $120 million over 6 years. Even that would be a stretch, but I think he could be reasonably counted on to live up to such a contract. Perhaps it would be possible to front load such a deal, given the payroll room we will have next season. Deep down, I don't think he really wants to stay in Milwaukee, given some of his comments this past July. I expect Melvin is going to make one more token offer to Prince very soon, which Boras will turn down. Then if a reasonably good trade offer comes along, he gets dealt. If not, we go into 2011 with Prince at first base and either deal him at the deadline or take the picks when he walks in free agency.
  4. A lot of Braves fans seem to speak really highly of him. You have to wonder if our outfield would get crowded with Gomez and Dickerson already in the mix as backups, though. Or is he being looked at as a contingency if Fielder is dealt and McGehee or Gamel don't work out at 1B?
  5. Just a sort of update. I've taken to using Opera Mini on my Blackberry, which is much better than the default browser. Loads much faster, webpages are more viewable, etc. The downside is that BF.net occasionally "crashes". The site will be loading just fine and then I get an "Oops" screen with a message at the top that says "internal server error." Wondering if anyone else uses this browser or has any advice? Thanks.
  6. I agree with greeg that you have to start drawing some pretty strong boundaries. You girlfriend let this situation get way out of control and probably should have sought legal action much sooner than she did.
  7. Pavano is better than Suppan, but I wouldn't want to see him signed to a Suppan type contract.
  8. I agree with Gobias that it was the best episode in quite a while. I really liked the character development with Michael finally realizing that Ryan had been taking advantage of him, and then the way how he got Ryan to sell Wuphf in an indirect way.
  9. I don't think it's a horrible idea, but you have to beware that he had an abnormally good season this past year. His WHIP and ERA were the lowest they've been since 2004. I could see giving him a two year deal, but no more. He's going to be 35 in January.
  10. I remember hearing that the Yankees would have been willing to include Kei Igawa, which would have been lousy for the Brewers. There were also those reports that said the Brewers would have had to eat most of Cameron's salary, which would have been ridiculous.
  11. I don't think the Brewers should be interested in either one, especially Burnett with his salary. He'll be 34 in January and wasn't very good last year. 5.26 ERA and 1.51 WHIP.
  12. Supposedly he signed for only a little over $300,000? That seems crazy low.
  13. If he buys the Astros, can he keep his minor league teams, or does he have to sell them off?
  14. Would it make any sense at all for the Brewers to pick him up?
  15. He'll probably be DHing quite a bit by then, assuming Posada retires in the meantime.
  16. Briggs, I don't think anyone thinks Floyd will necessarily be a top of the rotation guy. A solid #3 type is still very valuable for the Brewers, especially one that is still relatively young and under control for the next three years. I agree that I could see the Brewers wanting a bit more for Fielder. I would love for them to get both Floyd and Beckham, but not sure if the White Sox will be willing to deal both. I would certainly be willing to throw in Rivas and a bullpen arm at this point like you suggested.
  17. I agree. Just for argument's sake, let's say the Brewers trade Fielder for Floyd, straight up. Then they sign Carl Pavano (just going off the reported interest the Brewers have in him. You go into next season with: Gallardo/Wolf/Floyd/Pavano/Narveson. You still probably have Parra and Rogers available as backups. Maybe Capuano as well. I don't think anyone can say that isn't a clear upgrade over what we had at the start of last season (Gallardo/Wolf//Davis/Bush/Suppan).
  18. Why does his record against one team really matter? Particularly an AL club the Brewers only play six times per season? You have to view his entire body of work, not just games against one opponent. Frankly, he might have an advantage going to an NL club, since most hitters won't have faced him before.
  19. At least when Haudricourt does criticize the club, it's for on the field play and personnel decisions. Witrado routinely brings up vague innuendo (like the "Braun isn't highly regarded by the front office" stuff on WSSP that I referenced earlier) or seems to make it personal. Really, I'm shocked he hasn't gotten in trouble for it by this point. I can only ascertain that he has some sort of personal vendetta against Ryan Braun. Remember, he was the one pushing the "Braun might be traded" angle over a year ago when literally no one else was. I wonder if Braun didn't give him an interview or something and Witrado is bitter about it?
  20. As much as I hate the Yankees, I think they are right in this respect. $15 million per year for an aging shortstop is more than fair. It sounds like they are willing to pay him even more than that, just not for more than three years. Jeter needs the Yankees more than they need him at this point.
  21. I find this somewhat funny and at the same time, fascinating. Two two sides could be $50 million apart. Neither Jeter nor his agent, Casey Close, has disclosed what numbers they are seeking, but it is believed Jeter wants a five- to six-year deal somewhere in the range of $20 million a year. If you do the math, that's a difference of at least $50 million from the Yanks' offer. Most baseball analysts agree that, on the open market, the 36-year-old Jeter would attract no more than a two-year deal for a total of $15 million to $20 million. Despite Steinbrenner's comments, an undercurrent of testiness has entered the talks. Both sides claim they want Jeter to remain a Yankee, but it appears these negotiations are not going to be the breeze that some envisioned when his 10-year, $189 million contract expired at the end of the season. I think it's a given he ends up a Yankee again next season. It would be really funny if the Yankees end up being "forced" to overpay him, but it sounds like they are sticking tot heir guns for right now.
  22. Boras doesn't have a good relationship with the White Sox, so I don't think Williams would look at it as anything more than a one year rental.
  23. Do we even know if the Marlins are actually looking to possibly trade Nolasco? Maybe I missed something. It made a lot more sense for them to trade Uggla, even for a mediocre return, than it would for them to deal Nolasco right now.
  24. What would it take to sign him? 2 years/$20 million total? I wouldn't be overly excited, but he's probably still an upgrade over some of the guys they've been trotting out.
