  1. The only way to deal with a person like that is to tell them off. You don't have to start yelling or cursing, but you have to tell them to knock it off, and do it very sternly.
  2. 1080p sets have the big advantage with Blu-Ray movies. I believe one or both of the satellite providers have "on demand" movies available in 1080p, but that's it. Broadcast HD is either 720p or 1080i. The whole power consumption thing gets way overblown. I think when plasma sets first came out, they weren't very energy efficient...but nowadays the technology has gotten a lot better and the operating cost difference is minimal compared to LCD sets. As I've said before, I personally prefer plasmas, but I doubt your grandparents are going to notice the difference or care. For about $500 I'd think more LCD sets would be available.
  3. Maybe they just figured they needed to sign a "star" with Adam Dunn having left town? You also have to wonder what kind of contract Carl Crawford is going to cash in on now.
  4. Washington definitely has the money to lock up Fielder long term if they wish to. With them signing Werth, maybe it's a sign they feel they are close to contending and would be open to trading for Prince. I think it's still somewhat of a longshot, but not impossible.
  5. I think Capuano will be re-signed regardless, but I don't want him penciled into the rotation. I'd rather use him in the bullpen and as a spot starter. If he beats out Narveson or whomever in spring training for a rotation spot, then fine. I don't like the Pavano idea if it requires more than a two year deal. Webb is intriguing, but you have to wonder how soon he'd be able to actually pitch again.
  6. I don't see how it's a match now. We'd probably have to give up Rogers/Jeffress/Odorizzi to have any shot at making a trade. I think that might be too much to give up.
  7. I don't think that I'm alone in my feeling that Macha had it in for Villanueva almost from day one. Like Hardy, he was dumped at low value after being exiled to Nashville. There has also been a double standard on this team, some guys get sent to AAA for stinking up the field, some don't. Well, you can't send every under performing player down at every point. Hardy definitely deserved to be sent down in '09, and Villy got sent down mainly because there wasn't room for him at the time. By his quotes, he didn't seem to feel Macha hated him or the organization was carrying some sort of double standard as you like to say.
  8. Like it or not, Lawrie was expendable to the organization. It was sounding more and more like he was not going to stick at second base. At that point, his value to the Brewers was diminished. We're getting a pitcher better than many thought we might get for Prince Fielder, and gave up a guy who is still well away from the majors. I think some fans are miffed that they can't criticize Melvin's lack of pitching moves anymore.
  9. Marcum has tons of upside, from what I've read. Let's get a bit more excited about this. Melvin pulls a surprise. I'm impressed.
  10. I probably wouldn't bother, especially for a three hour round trip. I'd be very leery of a vehicle like that which has been in multiple accidents. My guess is that the second owner beat the hell out of it.
  11. That's quite appropriate. I plan to fully celebrate "Repeal Day" while watching the Packers game this afternoon.
  12. Supposedly the Blue Jays are looking at dealing for Greinke. If they make that trade, I doubt they also have the parts left to acquire Prince.
  13. I don't understand why a thread about Villanueva is rehashing the tired Escobar/Hardy argument yet again.
  14. I am thankful my Toro ran perfectly today. Snow wasn't bad, but I would have been ticked if the snowblower didn't work.
  15. They can still cite you for inattentive driving, regardless.
  16. [quote author=craigharmann wrote: [/b]Well, they weren't going to platoon him with Big Al, were they? I thought maybe Pujols was going to be sent down to Memphis.
  17. Heyman is saying Berkman is getting $8 million, and will play LF (with Holliday moving to RF).
  18. This off-season is starting to look ugly for the Brewers. I realize Berkman isn't what he once was, but STL's lineup is going to be scary.
  19. RockCo: I feel the same about Hudson, to a point. He's definitely not going to be an ace-like pitcher like he was with the D-Backs. He could still be a good #3 type, which would still be valuable to the Brewers. Sage: I really could see the Blue Jays jumping in, in order to stay competitive, as you suggest. They could afford Fielder and possibly re-sign him after next season. Also, they probably have enough prospects to swing a deal without destroying their rotation or core group.
  20. I really don't think he's planning on making too many bullpen moves. Last season showed everyone that we have plenty of serviceable guys for the bullpen, and there are probably more in AAA if needed. He may spend money on someone like Carl Pavano, though.
  21. If you're going to criticize Melvin for one thing in regards to trading Fielder, it should be about limiting possible returns by only talking about pitching. crewcrazy, you may be right. Melvin might want to expand his horizons. Getting one or two highly touted position prospects for Fielder wouldn't be bad at all. You could then flip one of them or someone like Lawrie for starting pitching. Just another way to have more options. (fixed code --1992)
  22. Apparently they're getting a 4th PTBNL, according to Jon Heyman.
  23. The more I think about it, I tend to agree. I think two years of Greinke is worth it. I hope Melvin wouldn't have to throw in much more with Jeffress and Rogers, though.
  24. It's easy to look back and say they should have traded Fielder for Hudson, but hindsight is 20/20. I agree in retrospect that's probably what should have been done, given better returns don't seem to be coming.
  25. Boy, wouldn't that be perfect? Boston could sign Fielder next year after getting Gonzalez this winter and extending him. And of course they signed John Lackey last year. The rich keep getting richer in MLB, while teams like the Brewers have to hope and pray for their prospects to develop and settle for scraps on the FA market.
