Just to note that Prince (and Boras) would be prohibited from talking with other teams unless the Brewers were to give explicit permission; otherwise it would be considered tampering.
I like the current unis and logo. I think they look classy but distinctive. I could see using the retro logo a bit more, though. Maybe do an alternate cap in the current color scheme or something.
I just mentioned this in another thread, but apparently Boras and Fielder are at the GM meetings in Orlando (it's on Twitter now). Definitely interesting.
Just saw an MLB Trade Rumors tweet (mlbtrorlando) that said both Scott Boras and Prince Fielder are at the GM meetings. Perhaps talking with Melvin once more about a contract extension?
Yeah, it's been oddly quiet so far regarding Rickie Weeks. I don't doubt they'll approach him about an extension if they haven't already. I agree with WTP that I wouldn't do that Uggla deal with Weeks. Just seems like too big a risk.
Agreed. I really don't want them to mess with Loe, who was very successful out of the bullpen last year, and try to convert him into a starter. Villanueva is fine as a spot starter or emergency option. I really can't see Dillard being a successful starter, personally.
Yeah, that's my point, RoCo. Parker is very similar to those two, and they are in. I know Parker is somewhat tainted by his admitted drug use, but so were a whole lot of other guys during his era that are in.
Here's ESPN's list of free agent relievers. I don't know, but I'm not seeing anyone really jumping out as a potential starter. Part of the problem is you would want someone younger if they're still going to make that kind of transition, and Jesse Crain at 29 is the youngest on that list.
I really doubt Melvin will bother trying to negotiate with Boras again. Fielder has already reportedly turned down two contract extension offers from the Brewers (one earlier this year, and one before the '08 season). Maybe they make a token offer early in the winter meetings, and when that gets turned down again, start looking for trades a bit harder.
I know Gomez speaks at least some English, too. I've seen him talking at spring training this past March. I really don't think you can blame any "language barrier" for his struggles at this point.
The problem is that A-Gon is such a complete elite type player, you know teams like the Red Sox are going to be in on him. We just don't land players like that in free agency.
Not a Brewers one, but game used(!): http://cgi.ebay.com/2002-Toronto-Blue-Jays-Garth-Iorg-16-Game-Used-Jersey-/130455298339?pt=US_Baseball_Fan_Shop&hash=item1e5fbde123#ht_4857wt_924
I did that update (honest). I have no idea why it occured to me, but I checked Wikipedia to find out about him, and then updated it. Working on my home computer has it's privileges.
Minor nitpick: I realize these coaching changes aren't momentous news, but I haven't heard a peep about them from the two Milwaukee sports talk stations yet. Too much excitement from the Packers bye week, I guess.
From Haudricourt: Brewers name Rick Kranitz as pitching coach and Jerry Narron as bench coach. More info here. The Brewers already announced that hitting coach Dale Sveum would return under a two-year deal. Ed Sedar also returns but moves from first base to third base, and Stan Kyles also returns as the bullpen coach. Garth Iorg, who had served as the Brewers’ minor-league infield instructor, will be the new first base coach.
I don't know where this "Rosenthal is thinly sourced" talk is coming from or is supposed to mean. Seems like he breaks a pretty good amount of stories (like the Peterson story just a few minutes ago as an example).
