  1. I hate how Gamel got hurt during spring training 2010. Not sure how that's the Brewers fault, though.
  2. I don't think there have been any talks between the two teams whatsoever. This was just Gammons speculating, but idiotically so. I'll say it again. Braun is signed to a very favorable contract and is an elite offensive player. You don't trade those kinds of guys if you're a small market team, you build around them. Otherwise we would end up with some good pitching but a very anemic offense (if both Fielder and Braun were to leave).
  3. Exactly. How often did we hear rumors about Ben Sheets getting traded after '04 as well? Same old, same old here.
  4. Kicking tires is one thing, but Gammons' report sounds irresponsible to me. I think he's just making stuff up, to be honest. The report I read said that Braun could fit for the Red Sox at 3B. That is just plain silly since he hasn't played there since '07 and was terrible defensively. Braun will make $4 million this year and his salary escalates annually to a "whopping" $12 million in 2015. Why the hell would the Brewers possibly deal such a valuable player? It makes no sense. It's a Red Sox fan's wet dream, but it isn't going to happen.
  5. Sounds like a Red Sox fan's wishful thinking more than anything. It would be suicidal for the Brewers from a business standpoint to see both Fielder and Braun depart within the span of a season. I hope Braun finishes his career as a Brewer. He's a future Hall of Famer if he continues his current pace. I posted this a while ago, but here is baseball-reference.com's comparisons for Ryan Braun through age 26: Chick Hafey (939) * Manny Ramirez (937) Raul Mondesi (931) Shawn Green (928) Jim Thome (913) Jeff Heath (912) Charlie Keller (912) Billy Williams (909) * Mark Teixeira (909) Ralph Kiner (908) * Three Hall of Famers on that list, and at least one more probable (Manny Ramirez...not sure about Jim Thome, but he's probably in the discussion, and Teixeira could be there someday as well). Why would they possibly trade five years of control over him right now?
  6. I do question why travel "off days" are really needed nowadays. Typically if a team finishes playing at 10 PM or so, they are on a plane by midnight. Then a couple hours flight, they're probably at the hotel by 3 AM or 4 AM at the latest (I realize it's longer if it's a East/West coast matchup). That's still plenty of time to sleep and rest before playing an evening game the next day.
  7. If Wolf and Narveson can both have a sub 4.50 FIP, that would be a nice start to rounding out the rotation.
  8. Arizona would probably be a good fit right now. I can't remember who they were using as closer, but there might be an opening there. Also since the team is basically rebuilding right now, there probably wouldn't be a ton of pressure on Hoffman.
  9. I believe his contract with TBS is for five years. I really doubt he's going to be looking to move on before that.Quite frankly in five years or so, network TV may be dead as we know it. With how he got burned by NBC, I could see him being a main stay at TBS for many years to come.
  10. Yeah, I also agree that they should be sticking to the office environment more. Seems like there's a lot of hanging plotlines. The Gabe/Erin thing hasn't been touched on that much (other than the Andy theater episode bit), and what happened to Pam's promotion? I'm sure there's other stuff I'm forgetting, too.
  11. Yeah, last week's episode was not really that funny. I did like to see the further developments with Michael, where he was basically getting sick of all his co-workers. Getting on the bus and almost going to Mexico was a pretty big stretch, even for him, though.
  12. Nah, not even they're that dumb. He'll get three years at best, maybe with a fourth year option.
  13. Pretty funny stuff. The opening segment was hilarious ("Conan...we have 14 kids! You need to find a job!"), and Seth Rogen and Lea Michelle were pretty good first guests. Definitely going for the younger demographic. Good to see "the bear" make a hilarious cameo appearance as well.
  14. I agree, Briggs. Kuroda has been so good the last couple years, though you have to worry about his age (36 in February). Still, if he would sign a deal similar to Wolf's, it would probably be a safe gamble.
  15. I'll never forget Joe Morgan's brain melting, "Are the Twins a small market team or not?" on-air exposition after Joe Mauer re-signed earlier this year.
  16. It's been speculated that he could be a free agent target for the Brewers this season. Of course it would be interesting to bring him back after he was traded in 2006. Looking at his numbers over the past couple seasons, he would probably provide a sub 4.50 ERA and a WHIP around 1.30 or so. He's been pitching for the Rockies, who don't exactly play in a pitcher's park as well. Not sure what he would cost, though. I honestly don't think it would be a bad idea to bring him back if he's willing to take a two year deal (he'll be 30 this coming year). What do you all think?
  17. I just don't see how he doesn't end up staying a Ranger or in Yankee pinstripes. The Brewers can't match the money the Yankees will be willing to offer, or the proximity to home that the Rangers have.
  18. I don't see how he's being looked at as a serious option. At least I sure hope Doug Melvin isn't looking at him as a serious option. He's 36, not very good anymore, and didn't pitch all of last year. He passed on a $5 million contract supposedly last season, holding out for a multi-year deal (don't forget who his agent is!). I think bringing back Capuano on the cheap would be a much better option than signing Washburn at this point.
  19. No thanks, pass. Maybe if he would accept a minor league deal with some sort of opt out if he doesn't make the MLB roster, fine. Otherwise we have better options on hand already.
  20. Your headline is a bit misleading. The article linked says that Morgan would still work on ESPN's mid-week broadcasts, just not the Sunday Night Baseball ones.
  21. That's a pretty good way to put it. And if we can't find anyone else to fill the fifth spot, I would rather bring back Capuano on the cheap than sign Washburn.
  22. We've been hearing rumors about Washburn coming to pitch in Milwaukee every year since about 2004. No thanks. He's old and not good anymore. May as well re-sign Doug Davis instead if that's the kind of pitcher you want.
  23. I was about to bash Lee's play this season; but then looked up the numbers, and overall they aren't too bad. I still think I would have to pass. There just isn't much gas left in the tank, and he'll be 35 next season. I guess if he'd sign a one year deal for no more than $5 million, it wouldn't be horrible, though. This all assume Prince can be dealt for something worthwhile, too. Correia seems like a pretty safe pickup. Would not mind seeing him signed at all.
  24. I think Jeffress is more expendable than Rogers at this point as well. I think the comparisons to Joba Chamberlain are apt. Will flirt with the rotation, but end up being a reliever. Not that the Brewers don't need good relievers down the pipeline, but obviously the rotation is a much more pressing need.
  25. You're forgetting his valuable experience playing for the Dodgers, Angels, and Padres early in his career!
