  1. Haudricourt said on Twitter that Attanasio told him "serious discussions" will happen today regarding the managerial decision.
  2. Doesn't Greinke have partial no-trade protection to certain teams? I know there's been talk he would not want to go to New York at all (due to his past issues).
  3. Does anyone think baseball might benefit from less minor league teams? I've wondered this for quite a while. Why is it necessary to have two different rookie levels (if you count Arizona) and two different single-A levels, for instance? Just seems like two much incremental difference in the affiliates. I'm sure there is some good reason things are structured that way, but it seems excessive to me.
  4. Well, there's that as well. I do think McGehee can continue to play well, but he's always going to have to prove himself because he was never a touted prospect. People are always going to go, "Yeah, he keeps hitting, but who is this guy again and how much longer can he keep it up?" It's kind of a shame since he's done everything someone could reasonably ask of him in the past two seasons.
  5. That makes sense. I could see the 2012 infield consisting of Hart (1B), Weeks, Escobar, and Lawrie at 3B. McGehee could get traded after this coming season, assuming he continues playing how he has the past two seasons.
  6. I'm guessing Attanasio is just giving his input, not making the final decision.
  7. My understanding is all that has basically been taken care of due to Toyota's massive recall efforts. I could be wrong, but I don't remember hearing anything about Toyota's safety issues for several months now.
  8. I saw a quote from Melvin stating that Valentine is, "Very eager to get back to managing." I think all this talk that he is reluctant to come back is a bit suspect. He did interview with both the Marlins and Orioles earlier this year. Those instance just didn't work out for whatever reason.
  9. Funny thing is that vinyl is almost certainly going to outlive the CD at this point. Go to Best Buy, and the CD section gets smaller and smaller. Meanwhile you can still buy new album releases on vinyl. I have a small vinyl collection myself, but mostly roll with mp3s these days simply due to the convenience. There's a very good used record shop in Watertown, Fox Music Company. Might be worth checking out or calling.
  10. You're probably right for the short term. Here's an article that backs up what you said: http://clarkhoward.com/shownotes/category/5/124/180/
  11. Sorry. It's a joke from a thread in the Minor League forum. I'll change it again soon, probably.
  12. This is kind of what I suspect. It sounds like Valentine is Melvin's favorite right now.
  13. New cars are more sexy, but my advice would be to buy a used car in the 2-5 years old range. Cars depreciate quickly once they are off the "new" lot, so you can get a good deal on a car that doesn't have a ton of miles on it. Paying cash is always a better deal than financing as well.
  14. If he'd take like 2 years/$8 million total I could see it. He's about a 700 OPS guy at this point. Otherwise I think it's not worth it and you just stick with Lucroy/Kottaras.
  15. It's an interesting thought. I do like Pierzynski. I just fear he'd be looking for too much money.
  16. There's a very interesting story up on MLB Trade Rumors, stating that the White Sox and Marlins discussed an Ozzie Guillen/Mike Stanton swap earlier this past season. Yes, you read that correctly.
  17. Why is Billingsley seen as a guy the Dodgers would be looking to trade? He has two more years of team control left, if I'm not mistaken. Seems like he'd be a good return for Prince at this point, but I'm not sure why the Dodgers would make such a trade.
  18. People have to remember Valentine isn't just some guy who managed for a couple years, went to Japan, and now only appears on ESPN baseball games. He managed for many years with both the Rangers and Mets, and brought an NL pennant to New York. Then he won a championship in Japan. Now he has a pretty high profile TV gig. I don't see how $3 million a year is really out of line with that level of experience and credentials. What would be a fair salary in the minds of folks here? $2 million a year? Are we really going to dismiss something over an extra $1 million a season? I still say the extra attention and enthusiasm Valentine will bring is worth it.
  19. Latest comments from Haudricourt on his blog: It's my understanding that the Brewers probably will see what it takes to put a deal together with Bobby Valentine but also are open to hiring either Bob Melvin or Joey Cora. Nice to have three choices from which to choose that you feel comfortable with.
  20. Just a reminder that it's a 7 PM tip off, and the game is on 620-WTMJ and FS-Wisconsin.
  21. My guess is they could announce it on Friday (which is a travel day for the World Series teams). I would guess the commissioner's office would give them permission to make the announcement that day (though that's just speculation on my part). Here's the latest from Haudricourt on Twitter: Brewers GM Doug Melvin just said, through PR man Mike Vassallo, that there is no agreement in principle with Bobby Valentine to be manager.
  22. I agree that it wouldn't have as much impact on the field. I do think it would have a pretty big impact with the fan base and national media, however.
  23. Good points, sbrylski. I guess I don't see why paying an MLB manager $3 million or so a season is really that big a deal in 2010. Attanasio has shown he's willing to spend extra to get a high impact piece in the past, so I don't think such a salary would really hamstring the team like some on here insinuate.
  24. Further comments from Bill Scott via MSNBC: "A coach inside the Brewers organization told us this morning that Valentine and the Brewers are, at least, agreeing in principle," said Bill Scott of the Wisconsin Radio Network to Newsradio 620 WTMJ. Scott is 620WTMJ's "Packers Insider." "The dollars are apparently close, and I'm told he wants $10 million over three years."
