  1. The plot thickens.
  2. Yeah, I think we need to give up the idea of a trade with SF at this point. I think it would have happened if it was going to by now.
  3. Posted by Haudricourt about 15 minutes ago on his blog (and yes I realize I am somewhat of a rumor mongering nerd when it comes to these things): Folks, this is the way I will characterize what has happened thus far. According to what Bobby Valentine told me, the report that a deal was in place was premature. That doesn't mean there won't be a deal. There just has been no agreement thus far. And Valentine said no follow-up meeting has been scheduled. That doesn't mean one won't be scheduled, or that this won't be done over the phone with his agent. So, obviously there is interest on both sides. Whether it leads to a deal remains to be seen. Don't forget. There was a report a couple of weeks ago that Valentine had reached agreement with the Marlins, then that fell apart. So there's no deal until there is a deal. But there's obviously something going on here. I'll try to stay on top of it for you.
  4. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a joke or what. Anyway, I guess my leaning is that, "where there is smoke, there is fire." Maybe a deal isn't done yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Brewers and Valentine are in negotiations. Valentine may have been playing coy with Haudricourt, if you read between the lines.
  5. If these four are what we are actually down to, I don't have a major beef with any of them. I know many here don't like Bob Melvin, but I'm not really that adverse to him becoming the next manager. I guess I basically think most baseball managers are the same, and only amount to a difference of maybe 2-3 wins per season. I really don't see Melvin coming in and being somehow so terrible that he's sinking our season. It doesn't matter anyway unless the starting pitching improves significantly. Roenicke and Cora both seem like good options; but then again, I don't know how much stock you can really put into either of them right now. It's not like either is a proven MLB manager with a track record. I think I would like to see Valentine get the job, just for the hype and excitement it would bring back to the Brewers; but I'm still skeptical. This just seems to be Haudricourt and Rosenthal confirming each other's guesses. Not a lot of "juice" behind these reports yet.
  6. Nuts...you guys are on to me, I mean, uh, us...
  7. Well, it would get the fan base excited. That's partly why I think it has a chance to happen. It just seems weird that it's been kept so under wraps if true.
  8. Some interesting thoughts from Haudricourt in the comments section of his blog: Adam McCalvy of mlb.com contacted Ron Roenicke and he wouldn't say if he is in or out, so I'm guessing he's in. Otherwise, why not just say "I'm no longer being considered." And because Cora and Roenicke have no major-league managerial experience, I'm guessing the fourth candidate does. For some reason, I have a feeling the Brewers are still considering Bobby Valentine. We haven't heard anything from Valentine in a while, though you would think it would leak out from ESPN is he was a finalist. So, we've got B. Melvin, Cora and it looks like Roenicke. You would think it would be difficult to keep Valentine's candidacy under wraps but he's my fourth guess for now.
  9. Another thing in the Bucks favor right now is that a US Senator owns them. patrickgpe is probably right that those three teams mentioned are much more likely.
  10. Yep, seems to be working now. Thanks.
  11. Seems to be happening again this afternoon.
  12. I kind of like it. The old logo was too messy, IMHO.
  13. The thing is there is no way any politician is going to be able to bring up the idea of a new NBA arena in Milwaukee right now with how poor the local economy is (relatively speaking). That said, how many cities are there that the Bucks could realistically locate to? Ones that have a high quality arena built or would be willing to build one in the very near future? I don't think the Bucks are in any real danger in the near term. Everyone knows they'll need a new building eventually if they're going to stay in Milwaukee. It will probably be worked out down the line when the economy improves.
  14. I'm surprised that he's so loyal to this organization when quite frankly he's been treated like crap. I don't know if the fact that he was passed on as the manager means that he was "treated like crap." I assume Dale Sveum doesn't agree with your assessment or he would have found a job elsewhere.
  15. The Yankees' playoff hopes are as dead as George Steinbrenner. No more looking at those gaudy "The Boss" patches this season. Great to see the Rangers go to the World Series. The enthusiasm from the fans there last night was amazing.
  16. If they'd take something like Gamel, Rogers, and Jeffress, I think you have to strongly look at it. Not sure if that would quite be enough, though.
  17. This just seems kind of silly to me. Attanasio is involving himself, so that automatically means an "LA guy" is going to get the job? You seem paranoid in quite a few of your posts.
  18. I noticed I couldn't get in with the brewerfan.net url. brewersfandemonium.yuku.com seemed to work, though. Anyone else have the same issue?
  19. How did Doug Melvin get tied into this? Weird. Neat that it's going to Autism Education, though.
  20. I'm not a season ticket holder at all anymore (thought my dad shares season tickets with some associates and I often get to use them). I agree that the NYCE passes are sort of silly. It's something to visit maybe once a season during a boring game, but that's about it. It would be different if they gave you a free drink stub or something with the pass.
  21. I admit I have been cheering against the Giants, mainly because I hoped they would give up something good for Prince this past July.
  22. bruce, you may be right. With how the team was talking about Gamel as a possible future outfielder, I could easily see Hart moving to first and Gamel getting the chance to be the everyday starting right fielder.
  23. I'm kind of getting the sense that Bob Melvin and Pat Listach may be the front runners at this point. Tim Kurkjian apparently reported that the Brewers could name the manager as soon as early next week.
  24. He darn well better be.
  25. I think the team is sold on McGehee as the 3B at this point. There has been some speculation and rumors that the team may offer him a long term contract soon. I think Gamel either ends up at 1B/RF or gets dealt. Just my hunch.
