  1. I'm pretty sure they do in fact have to interview at least one minority candidate, unless they are hiring an internal candidate.
  2. Here's an idea I'm not sure has come up yet. How about Don Wakamatsu? It seemed like he was well regarded in Seattle despite the team's performance, and was perhaps dismissed unfairly. He's a younger manager who seems like he would have the "energy" that Macha seemingly didn't.
  3. Sixteen Candles is a classic. "If you were here, I could deceive you...If you were here, you would believe..."
  4. I like Ted Simmons. I'd be fine with that; but I'd be shocked if he is manager next season.
  5. Dude, grow a spine and do something about this. You saw him and didn't do anything? I'm not trying to play internet tough guy here...but if I saw someone using my property that I knew they stole from me, I wouldn't try and stay away from them.
  6. I remember reading recently that Zdureincik admitted they hadn't done enough due diligence on him. Thanks for the clarifications.
  7. How severe is Luebke's "baggage?" Would the Brewers want to deal with him?
  8. This is my line of thinking. Melvin would risk his job and the long term health of the Brewers franchise by taking a low return offer for Prince. He's not going to trade him just to trade him. It's not as if his salary is an issue for the team next season. While I still think Prince will in fact be traded this winter, I could see a scenario play out where the team tries to make one last run with Prince at 1B in 2011; and then trade him at the deadline in July if they're out of contention.
  9. I guess if he's willing to sign a one year deal for around no more than $3 million (maybe with a second year club option), it's worth doing. I just don't want them to go overboard and then see him likely regress. Have to remember that he's already 32.
  10. This isn't what I necessarily want to happen, but what I think will likely happen: Yankees over Twins in 5 Rays over Rangers in 4 Giants over Braves in 3 Phillies over Reds in 4 Rays over Yankees in 7 Phillies over Giants in 5 Rays over Phillies in 6
  11. Detroit, Angels, and Rangers seem like the three most likely fits to me. And yeah, this should probably be in the Trade Rumors forum.
  12. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs301.ash2/58105_449985445002_45083850002_5506530_5454212_n.jpg Pic was on the Brewers Facebook page.
  13. Well, at least my dad will be buying me a beer.
  14. I admit I didn't know about Listach's extensive minor league resume. I'm not opposed to seeing him interviewed or whatever, just surprised by the sudden support he seems to have around here.
  15. Just for the sake of argument: Weeks: .269/.366/.464, 29 HR, 83 RBI. Hart: .283/.340/.525, 31 HR, 102 RBI. Not sure if I think it's so clear cut. I think both played comparable defense for their positions. Maybe you can argue Weeks was a bit better, but I don't think it's cut and dry.
  16. I wonder why Money doesn't get mentioned more as a managerial candidate. Maybe it's his age, or maybe he would rather stay working with younger guys in the minors.
  17. Braun's final slash line on the season: .304/.365/.501, 25 HR, 103 RBIs Not too shabby for a "down season."
  18. Yet another classy Doug Melvin move. Doug, you are a truly awful GM. I can't believe how bad you are at dealing with your people. You have made it an organization wide problem. I never liked Macha much, but whacking him via leaked reports on the radio? Classy! Ugh! The way this organization has been run over the last couple years has made it very difficult to be a fan! Come on. This is just silly. Macha was not, "whacked via leaked reports on the radio." Macha's quotes don't seem to indicate Melvin handled him in an unprofessional manner at all. Here's a quote from Adam McCalvy's latest piece: After the 45-minute sit-down, Melvin and assistant GM Gord Ash helped Macha load up a rented SUV for the drive home to Pittsburgh. "I don't know if that's a good sign or a bad sign," Macha joked. "Maybe they wanted me out of town. I thought that was pretty funny." Yes, clearly Melvin was unprofessional, meeting with him for 45 minutes and then helping the guy move out. What a jerk. Honestly, your post just comes off as bitter trolling.
  19. Why does everyone think Pat Listach would be good? I know he seems to be liked and used to play for the Brewers, but I'm not sure what qualifies him as a good MLB manager. Macha with some of his own thoughts on his tenure, via Witrado: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/104276948.html Some interesting excerpts: “When you sit down and build your club … you really got to compare your club to the other teams that have won,” Macha said. “How do we stack up with say St. Louis? We signed Randy Wolf and LaTroy Hawkins. … Yeah we filled some holes, but are we on the same level with (Chris) Carpenter and (Adam) Wainright? So maybe the expectations were a little high but you still have to win. “We lacked that No. 1 guy going out there. That’s my thoughts. If you could put someone at the top (of the rotation) and move everybody else down, you’d give yourself a much better chance to win.” Macha also acknowledged his trying relationships with stars Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder while noting that several other players he had good relationships with thanked him after yesterday’s season finale, including Corey Hart, Casey McGehee and Wolf among plenty of others.
  20. I really hope they don't try to mess with Loe (or for that matter, Braddock) as a starter. He's been successful and reliable as a reliever. I don't think he types out to being more than a mediocre 5th starter.
  21. Sometimes if you want something done, you gotta do it yourself.
  22. I really doubt Macha was surprised at all.
  23. I'm just surprised MLB managed to avoid another one game playoff.
  24. Gallardo's numbers this season just don't scream "MVP", to me. 3.84 ERA, 1.368 WHIP, 14-7 record. Nice pitcher, but not really an MVP season, in my humble opinion.
  25. A lot of the complaints about Macha just seem like nit picking in general. If he really did "lose the players," then I can understand letting him go. I also understand this move was inevitable. That said, I don't think he did a bad job with what he was given. The starting pitching flat out sucked this season and last. No manager was going to make the playoffs with these staffs.
