  1. Nevermind...found out you can indeed refinance a WHEDA mortgage (which I think was referenced in an earlier post anyway). Our local credit union is offering 15 yr fixed at just over 3.6%. Closing costs would be just over $1,000.00. Seems like a good deal. Thoughts?
  2. Just saw this on MLB Trade Rumors: The Royals will listen to offers for the 2009 Cy Young Award winner, but not every club has a realistic shot at acquiring him. Zack Greinke will be able to block trades to half of the teams in baseball between now and the 2011 trade deadline, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. The Kansas City Star recently reported that Greinke would be able to block deals to eight to ten teams, but FOX Sports is reporting that he’ll have even more leverage. Greinke’s contract runs through 2012, but he loses the right to block trades after next year’s July 31st trade deadline, according to Morosi. The right-hander could block trades to 20 teams including the Yankees and Red Sox during the 2009-10 seasons. Small market teams including the Rays were on Greinke’s list of acceptable destinations from 2009-10 (it’s possible that the list has since changed). Yeah, I have no idea if the Brewers would be an "acceptable destination" for him or not, but this is looking more and more like it has "pipe dream" written all over it to me.
  3. It's against forum rules to post entire articles from pay sites like ESPN Insider. Here's what he says about the Brewers: Greinke would be a great complement for Yovani Gallardo, but like the Indians, the Brewers are in the midst of trying to rebuild their young pitching, and it's uncertain whether they would have enough to satisfy Kansas City's demands. He names the Phillies, Rockies, Twins, Yankees, and Red Sox as his predictions for Greinke's most likely trade destinations.
  4. We have to remember that there's probably fans on at least 28 other message boards discussing this same player. I fear we're just going to have to give up way too much to get him. I'd really hate to see the farm system stripped of its pitching depth for likely only two years of a starting pitcher.
  5. Do you have any connections at all in your new community? I know it sounds cliche, but sometimes it's not what you know but who you know. Most of the big national chains seem to mandate online applications these days, but I can't imagine it hurts to drop off your resume in person, either.
  6. Still no luck? Sorry to hear that. I know it's still kind of rough out there.
  7. I won booze a couple times at local Lion's Club meetings. That's about it.
  8. But could he be credible as a first baseman for us (assuming Fielder is traded)?
  9. To take it a slightly different way: Would a package like Escobar/Gamel/a minor league pitcher be enticing to KC?
  10. Heard Haudricourt on the D-List yesterday. He said he doesn't think the Brewers are going to pursue Valentine, so he might be a scratch from the list.
  11. I'm not going to complain about them interviewing so many people. I'd rather see them take a couple extra weeks and interview 10-12 guys than just interview 3-4 and quickly make a decision. There's really no rush at this point, as none of the candidates hired by other teams seem like they would have fit the Brewers' needs.
  12. Yeah, I bet a lot more of the "casual" Cubs fans were pulling for Sandberg. Honestly I'd like to see Melvin interview him, even if he doesn't end up getting hired.
  13. I think during the off-season you need to write up a rant about how the Brewers can't possibly ever win a World Series http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  14. Does anyone here know if a WHEDA loan can be re-financed? We've owned our home for almost five years now, and have a 5.875% rate on a 30 year fixed. That was a great rate at the time we got it...now not that great. I've heard different answers on my question, though.
  15. Rickie Weeks is going to demand a trade now that he's been spurned.
  16. I've seen that picture before. Looking at it again though, I don't get how it would actually make the van catch on fire like that. Perhaps they had some garbage piled on top of the grill while it was still hot?
  17. Was it because they kept badgering him to buy the extended warranty?
  18. If the team doesn't feel comfortable playing both Gamel and McGehee (and assuming Hart stays in right field), I would love to see them trade for Sandoval. The upside is huge, and he's still relatively young and cheap. I have no idea what it would take to get him at this point though. Maybe you'd have to give up a prospect bat, like Lawrie?
  19. Everyone likes to throw out these ideas, but "trade and sign" deals just do not happen very much in MLB. I'm guessing Greinke is pretty much set on "testing the market", at this point. If Melvin does decide to trade for Greinke, he should do it knowing he'll like be gone after next season.
  20. Ironically, when the wife and I scheduled our wedding, we did it on Sweetest Day that year. It was completely unintentional. We didn't even find out until trying to book flowers for the wedding, and the first shop we went to turned us down because it was on Sweetest Day! We were pretty floored. Fortunately, we found a second shop that was able to accommodate us. So, I guess I'm lucky that I have a built in excuse not to do anything for that Hallmark Holiday, since we already have our anniversary around then.
  21. Not that I was advocating for the Brewers to hire Wedge, but why do folks feel this is a bad move for Seattle? Just curious.
  22. Have they decided where they are going to put it yet? I like the idea some of the blog comments have there, of mounting it to the exterior of the stadium.
  23. Yeah, much better episode tonight. Not as many "laugh out loud" moments as you might get in a great episode, but some very amusing stuff, and it was nice to see them continue Michael's character development.
  24. I am fortunate that my phone is paid for as a business expense. My sister and I run a business together, and considered switching from US Cellular to AT&T when our last contract was coming up. We decided to stay with US Cellular because the coverage here in Wisconsin is so much better, and also the fact that they have more retail stores in the area (easier to get help if needed). Just my two cents. One thing to look at in online reviews is that some phones seem to get better reception than others. The "bars" you see on your phone don't necessarily mean much though. My Blackberry Tour almost never has full bars shown, but I can't remember the last time I had a call drop.
  25. I agree with those saying he should start with the Brewers in 2011 if at all possible. With his injury history, I am not going to get overly concerned with service time. I realize starting pitching is extremely valuable, but counting on him to still be an effective starter in 2015 or 2016 seems to be like not seeing the forest for the trees. If he's really good in 2011 and 2012 (and still healthy), they can offer him an extension buying out his first year or two of free agency, and he'll probably take it (if he's not foolish).
