  1. Well, Lucroy was basically an emergency call up after Zaun got injured. There's a strong argument for easing a young catcher into the big leagues, rather than just putting him in and giving him start after start, when he may be over his head. It's not like Kottaras was some grizzled veteran without much of a bat, like Jason Kendall or something.
  2. Well, from what I've read, the previous academy was pretty lousy; so I don't think that was such a huge loss. They've recently re-established a presence in the Dominican Republic as well.
  3. Yeah, exactly. I think even most casual fans know how desperately this team needs starting pitching. Most people celebrated when we ate $12 million on Suppan's contract (or whatever the total was). They won't care if the Brewers pay a few million in a trade that sends a guy many are starting to regard as selfish and greedy (hate to say it, but that is the perception I think is out there regarding Prince at this point), assuming we get a quality return.
  4. I'm guessing Doug Melvin won't. That was my point earlier.
  5. If they have to pay half his salary to get a couple top prospects, I don't really see that being a huge issue. They are paying Suppan to pitch for the Cardinals this year and Hall to play for the Red Sox (in exchange for one marginal minor league pitcher, essentially). Much better to pay part of Prince Fielder's salary next year for premium young talent.
  6. Given Attanasio's comments earlier this season regarding Melvin, I would be shocked if he is fired any time soon. I think we just have to hope that he has learned from his mistakes over the past couple seasons. There is some evidence in recent comments and moves that he has. Will people credit Bruce Seid when the young pitchers like Odorizzi, Jeffress, and Rivas start coming up, ignoring Melvin's GM status, if they find success?

  8. I still think being 11th overall is pretty impressive given the various issues brought up.
  9. Ack, sorry for spoiling it. I can delete my post if you want.
  10. Guess it's not too surprising to see Arnett on the "not hot" list. Nice to see Scarpetta get some praise, though.
  11. Well, there you go. I guess Macha wasn't zim-zammed this time.
  12. Well, they do have a bad stadium, but that never hurt the Twins that much when they were in the Metrodome.
  13. Or he'll have Escobar start in CF and Counsell at SS.
  14. I don't think he has any no trade protection after this season, at least according to Cot's.
  15. Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Weird.
  16. These types of trades just don't happen very often at all.
  17. Somewhat tied to this topic: Brewers' attendance down 9.2%. Still good enough for 11th overall in MLB.
  18. Braun has his own thoughts on the topic: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/100054989.html
  19. I remember a couple years ago when he was supposedly trying to buy the Pittsburgh Pirates. While it would have made the Central Division a lot tougher, I think that would have been good for Milwaukee in the long run.
  20. I don't think I'd want the Brewers to do this trade. It's basically an even swap as far as service time left on the contracts. The Brewers would be taking on more salary, and acquiring a guy who may or may not become an effective starter again. At least with Wolf you have a guy who is likely going to take the ball every fifth day, give you a chance to win, and has the bonus of not being a locker room cancer headcase.
  21. This seems fairly realistic. They won't be calling up much more than five guys, since they're well out of contention.
  22. What's really weird is the next guy who will probably hit 600: Jim Thome.
  23. Yeah, I agree. If I'm a Rangers fan, I'd be pretty disappointed right now.
  24. All the publicity is because he's a Yankee. If he was on the Reds or Royals or something, it wouldn't have gotten this much coverage. It's like when Palmeiro reached 500 homers/3,000 hits. Was a nice story mentioned around, but nowhere near the attention of A-Rod. Now if Raffy had been a Yankee, it would have been all over.
