  1. How can anyone hate Casey McGehee? He's been one of the bright spots on the team offensively since last season.
  2. Well, the last comments he made hinted that he would retire. Probably for the best at this point.
  3. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say they've both been missed in the lineup.
  4. I do kind of wonder if Melvin should have "settled" for Hudson, Viciedo, and maybe one or two other lower guys. Not sure if that was a legit possibility or just media speculation, though.
  5. I think the best bet to get Greinke and only give up Fielder (plus one or two minor pieces), would be in a three team trade. I don't like the idea of giving up Hart and McGehee together, for just a couple years of a pitcher (even an ace).
  6. It's been inferred in various comments from the media that the team felt Gerut wasn't trying hard enough to get over his ankle injury. I don't think anyone can blame Macha for the position Gerut is in at this point.
  7. I think he's suggesting he should have gone for Fielder for Hudson, straight up.
  8. Exactly. I would hope at least by now they realize they aren't going to get anything productive out of him this season.
  9. You know, I admit I was optimistic when Hawkins was signed. I wasn't overly excited by the contract, but I really thought he'd be a nice "surprise" for the team this year in terms of performance out of the bullpen. Boy, I was definitely wrong on this one. Just has not been able to stay healthy and has been a shadow of his former self. Still have him for one more year, too; which is looking pretty lousy at this point. As far as McClendon, I too will look forward to seeing what he can contribute. Looks like a tall lanky guy...6'5", 215 lbs. Anyone know much about his "stuff?"
  10. I think Prince would have charged if it hadn't hit him on the butt.
  11. Wow, Bush suddenly imploding in on himself like a dying star.
  12. Actually, he had a quote out there not too long ago, along the lines of, "If there's a fight, I'll be right in there." Macha is a black belt, so you never know.
  13. We heard all the same things about Sabathia. "He's not a big city guy! He loved playing in Milwaukee! He loves to hit!" Yet he still signed with New York after supposedly "wrestling with the decision" for months. Yes, I have never met Cliff Lee or talked to him in person, but when everything boils down to it...money usually talks. Yeah, I could be wrong and he could shock the baseball world by signing with a smaller market team like the Brewers, but I sure as hell wouldn't bet on it. Also, it's not spending $20-25 million on Lee next year that will be the problem. It's potentially spending that much on him in 3-5 years, when he will be well into his mid 30's, that is (turns 32 at the end of this month). You already know that, though.
  14. Exactly. I still say the Yankees will be after him with a vengeance. There will be no way the Brewers can or should beat any offer the Yankees will be able to make.
  15. I really hope Melvin hasn't penciled Parra into next year's rotation at this point.
  16. I think you're being a bit disingenuous with this comment. Clearly no one expects him to be the caliber of hitter that Burnitz was.
  17. I like that you're thinking outside the box. The problem is that Lee is already 31. My guess is that he's viewing this as his last chance at a big payday. It'll probably take something like 6 years/$120 million to realistically get a deal done. That's just too much for the Brewers to mess around with.
  18. I like sveumrules' plan overall, but I am convinced there is just no possible way we will land Cliff Lee. I think a second trade may have to be swung if we want anyone decent (ie. not another aging veteran free agent near his decline years).
  19. I guess the Escobar lead-off experiment is already over with. Can't fault trying Cain in that position.
  20. You mean like this?: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/a7/Web_2.0_Map.svg/800px-Web_2.0_Map.svg.png
  21. Yeah, every time it seems like they're building some momentum, they take a step back.
  22. Have not seen him pitch personally. It doesn't appear he was a lauded prospect or has overpowering "stuff." Just really good control, from what I understand. He's a 24 year old rookie who has pitched in only 7 games so far this season, and was called up from AA Mobile in June. An article on him is here. Also worth noting that tonight's broadcast on FS-Wisconsin will be commercial free and feature a live auction for charity.
