  1. I wish Mark Attanasio would step in and do something. Either Macha is using the entire pitching staff stupidly, or Melvin is dictating to him how to run things, or both. The owner needs to step in and tell these guys to quit wrecking his pitchers, or go find a new job. (Or maybe simply the latter).
  2. Don't they basically have to keep Parra in the rotation after how he looked last night? Or am I missing something else?
  3. Guess he really was interested in playing football after all. Go figure.
  4. Well, if Macha isn't using Lucroy, why is Melvin keeping him up with the Brewers?
  5. Well, I don't think anyone can say Mark Attanasio preventing Doug Melvin from making such a move to shore up the pitching staff. Melvin has certainly had the budget to work with as well.
  6. Ugh...people forget how desperately the Brewers needed a reliable starting pitcher that off-season. The team had just come off a disappointing '06 due to not having enough reliable starting pitchers. Sheets and Ohka had both gotten hurt. We were throwing guys like Wes Obermueller into the rotation hoping to get some decent starts (sound familiar?). This after a promising 2005 where it looked like the team had turned a corner. Yes, it ended up being a bad decision based on this season and last, but at the time it wasn't a completely illogical move. I buy MJLive's assesment more than the assertions that signing Suppan was a gigantic ego stroke by Mark Attanasio. It's really not out of line for a team owner to meet with a free agent to talk up the team. I'd rather have an owner taking an interest in the team than one who is completely absentee, anyway.
  7. Regarding Soup, Doug had him traded to another team, lock and stock, full rack rate and MA vetoed the trade. Willie, I don't know what your source is on this, but I'd be fairly shocked if this was accurate. When was this, supposedly? As far as signing Prince long term, as much as part of me would like to see it, I don't think it would be for the best long term if it's similar or more than a Ryan Howard type contract.
  8. Brewers are one game out of last place, and have a team ERA of around 5.35. Yeah, they better look at blowing things up soon. The status quo sure isn't working.
  9. Weird. Getting HD here with Charter. Chat room is on. Come celebrate Rickie's home run with us.
  10. There's rumors floating around on the JSOnline and CBS Sports Brewers boards that Suppan will be given his release on Monday, and Hoffman may not be far behind. We'll see, I guess.
  11. His stats don't exactly say he's hurt these days. Not sure what you're getting at, brewmann.
  12. I'm glad I turned this one off after Wolf gave up that two run homer against Rasmus. I knew the Brewers simply didn't have a chance at that point.
  13. The whole draft system should be fixed. The idea of "signability" and signing bonuses are kind of stupid to begin with.
  14. Good riddance. As far as Capuano, no, he wasn't great last night, but it was his first start in the majors since '07, obviously. I think you have to give him a couple more chances. There was enough there to make me think he's a better long term option than Suppan, Estrada, etc.
  15. Any of those guys would have started yelling at the Tigers and then ejected them all after the game ended. The next day there would have been some very questionable calls against Gallaraga's team.
  16. May as well throw this in here: "RHP Claudio Vargas given his unconditional release. They designated him for assignment last week and couldn't work out a trade." That's from Tom Haudricourt on Twitter.
  17. I'm glad Macha is giving the "move everyone up and stop pretending we have an ideal #2 hitter" lineup again. Tough facing Wainwright right off the bat, but then again their entire rotation is pretty tough.
  18. I am glad Wendy sold the team when she did, but yeah, there's no question money wasn't the biggest motivator there.
  19. Yeah, but they have some big time pitching help arriving soon, and would have Hart under control for next season too.
  20. "We clearly didn't develop enough IMPACT PITCHING. We clearly have never had enough IMPACT PITCHING at MLB., Finally, we clearly are not able to compete with the big boys for IMPACT PITCHING in FA. So since we didn't start with enough, have only developed Yo, and aren't able to buy IMPACT PITCHING, how do we acquire said pitching if not through trades?" There, fixed that for ya. In all seriousness, the solution is staring Melvin right in the face. Trade Fielder, Hart, and anyone else not named Braun or Gallardo, and get some starting pitching. They may not be the +++ high upside surefire pitching prospects people are dreaming about, but some decent young pitching under control for multiple seasons is better than the virtually none we have at the MLB level right now. I just don't know if Melvin and Attanasio have the collective cojones to throw in the towel on the season. Melvin remarked that "they need another look at Parra," which is why he's getting the start this weekend. That is fine, but it's not like Parra hasn't had his chances before. If our pitching situation is that grim that you are just reshuffling the same deck in your MLB rotation, doesn't that say it's time to go to Plan B and think outside the box a bit? We are going to be taking on a 1st place club this weekend. The Brewers could easily be in 6th place by the end of the weekend. It's time to quit with this mirage of competitiveness for the season and start planning for the future.
  21. Reports Dan Connolly on Twitter. Baltimore only has 15 wins this season and had an 8 game losing streak, so not hard to see this one coming.
  22. Sounds like the Nats could really use some help in right field. I would hope Melvin at least explores the possibility, though I doubt he will.

  24. I think McGehee could have a lot of value to certain teams. 3B is a tougher position to fill than some seem to think. That said, I still feel that if Fielder is inevitably going to be dealt, I would want McGehee to stick around to possibly play 1B.
