  1. I guess my thinking is that if the Crew deals Fielder, there is no way they can also trade McGehee. Dealing both players would weaken the offense way too much. Hopefully Gamel is ready by next season, but who really knows at the rate he's been going?
  2. We'd probably have to give up a lot more to get KC to part with their star ace.
  3. Are we sure that score in the thread title is correct? Witrado still says it was Brewers 1, Mets 0. /blue
  4. Jordan Schelling now reporting it on Twitter. Says Marco Estrada is likely candidate to be sent down.
  5. Not seeing any official confirmation on Capuano being called up yet. I hope it's true, because he deserves it.
  6. 3 hitters, 3 ground outs for Hall. Good for him.
  7. I don't see how MLB can't do something about some of these umpires. Maybe some of them have just been around too long and take their jobs for granted.
  8. The Royals don't really need a CF right now (Podsednik is having a surprisingly good season, not sure of his status for next year off hand). I would try to trade some of our excess pitching, though I'm not sure who would be realistic. As far as Gamel, that's part of my whole point. He is looking far from a sure thing at this point. I hope he ends up being the 3B next season (with McGehee moving to 1B), but I certainly don't feel comfortable predicting that at this point. Yes, we could get a 1B prospect in return for Fielder, but I'd rather forgo that and deal for as much pitching as possible. Acquiring Gordon would allow for that.
  9. Well, Podsednik and Bloomquist both are having good seasons, but signing Ankiel was probably kind of dumb to begin with. My point is if they're not going to use Gordon on their MLB roster, maybe Melvin could trade for him. It wouldn't be a big deal to move him back to 1B after Fielder gets dealt. It would make such a move a lot easier actually. Not sure what it would take to acquire him, though. Edit: Actually, no, Bloomquist is putting up a sub-.600 OPS. So he is not having a good season. Really, their starting outfield at this point should be DeJesus, Podsednik, and Gordon.
  10. Well, he's blocked from 1B with Billy Butler there, and I guess Alberto Callaspo is doing a good job as their 3B right now. Seems like they should trade him for something if they don't have room for him.
  11. I kind of agree with him, and I kind of don't. There's no denying he was terrible in spring training this year. I don't really blame Macha for starting Edmonds at all. At the same time, I can understand why he might be carrying a slight chip on his shoulder. Maybe it is actually helping him play better this year, and if so, then that's not a bad thing.
  12. Gordon was demoted by the Royals earlier this season, and is hitting over .370 for AAA Omaha right now. I guess he's been moved to the outfield, but has primarily been a corner infielder in the past. Is this someone Melvin could look at trading for as backup insurance in case he does deal Fielder this season? I know McGehee or Gamel could be the 1B of the future too, but if one gets hurts, it would be nice to have a palatable backup plan.
  13. I can't believe he's pinch hitting Wolf. I know he's a pretty good hitter for a pitcher, but come on...
  14. I agree...like perhaps first base or right field?
  15. I agree with the concept in theory. Isn't BPA a lot more abstract in baseball compared to the NBA or NFL draft, though? Especially after you get through the first dozen or so players?
  16. sheethead, his inning wasn't really all that different from a lot of his saves last year. It's not like he was ever a huge strikeout guy to begin. Actually the big difference last night compared to earlier this season is that the flyout by Lee would have probably been a home run.
  17. He's looked much better in his last two outings. Since the Brewers will give him the closer opportunity again anyway, I'd rather they do it as soon as possible while he seems to be "hot."
  18. I agree that Macha will probably be fine in his handling of the catcher's spot. He seemed to be starting Kottaras at an adequate rate when Zaun was around. I think he'll do the same with Lucroy. People need to quit bringing up the Gamel issue from last season, as it doesn't have any correlation.
  19. There's no way they DFA Hoffman after his last couple of good outings. None. He'll get at least one more stint as closer.
  20. Felt like the team slept walked through this one. Get a series win today, Crew!
  21. McCalvy just tweeted that Zaun may retire if it requires surgery. Will try to rehab it.
  22. Apparently Zaun has a torn labrum and says he's 50/50 on whether he will play again this season. (from Haudricourt on Twitter)
  23. I really hope they don't send Estrada back down. I like what we've seen from him so far.
