  1. 10 pitch, 1-2-3 inning yesterday. I don't think it's safe to say "he's back", yet. But maybe the few days off helped him turn a corner?
  2. Yeah, I don't get that one. I realize tomorrow is an off day, but I hope Macha doesn't run Kottaras into the ground.
  3. I agree with the assessment on Suppan, Ely. I wish Macha would just let him eat as many innings as possible though. If he throws over 100 in a blowout, who cares at this point? If he gets hurt, he can be placed on the DL and get paid anyway. I could see him getting DFAed later in the year if they feel Loe or Capuano are ready. At this point with the team's horrible record (.372%, 9.0 GB from the Reds), there isn't a big rush.
  4. Ugh, I hadn't heard about that. What a mess this roster is right now.
  5. Yes, I get that first round picks don't make an immediate impact on the MLB roster, but there could have been a chance a guy we drafted last season could have been flipped, ala Laporta. Or at the very least cold have been ready to help in 2011 or 2012. FWIW, I don't blame Melvin for not re-signing Sheets. Oakland took a big risk on him with his salary and given his injury history. Maybe it will work out, maybe not, but I don't blame Melvin on not taking that gamble.
  6. He must have had some serious health issues. I know he was a bigger guy, from what I remember. Sorry for his friends and family, at any rate.
  7. I agree with you paul. I just fear that Attanasio and perhaps Melvin do not see it that way.
  8. When did Inglett get hurt? Between all the call ups and injuries, I must have missed that one.
  9. Lucroy will almost certainly go back to Nashville when Zaun returns. This isn't going to be a Gamel type situation where he rots on the bench for a couple months.
  10. I agree. Then again, it's hard to get a gauge on if Melvin would decide to trade Fielder or not. I hope he learned his lesson from the Sheets and Sabathia situations after '08 and isn't thinking "Hey, at least we'll get a high draft pick if Fielder leaves." That would be asinine.
  11. We took a huge blow to the organization last year when we did not get proper compensation for Sabathia or Sheets, that was a major step back for the process. And of course this wasn't Melvin's fault whatsoever. We got to the playoffs by doing things "the right way" and then the organization was promptly screwed over. It still infuriates me to think about how the Yankees pulled one over hugely at the expense of our team that off-season by signing both Sabathia and Teixeira. I think people need to remember how stacked against a team like the Brewers MLB's current economic and draft systems are.
  12. That Paul Molitor game used jersey is pretty cool. Too bad I don't have a grand burning a whole in my pocket.
  13. Yeah, if Fielder was to be traded, I don't want the Brewers' return centering around a first baseman. We could potentially slide McGehee or Gamel into that spot in the future. If a stopgap type guy is thrown in with a good pitcher, then fine. I wouldn't be excited for a Fielder/Smoak type deal as it doesn't address the club's core need. However, like I said in another thread, I'm thinking more and more that Fielder will not be traded this season, given Attanasio's recent comments about Macha and Melvin. I just get the sense he wants them to ride out this season and then "go for it" again in 2011.
  14. Would be nice to see. It's not like we'd be worst off from a W/L standpoint throwing Inglett, Gerut, or Edmonds out there the rest of the way. Are there any teams that have a real need for a right fielder at this point?
  15. If he'd take a cheap deal I'd be for it at this point. Doesn't he not get along with Ken Macha though?
  16. Crew07, that's all well and fine. I think you've made reasoned arguments, even if I don't always agree with you. Everything considered at this point, I don't really see Melvin suddenly changing his stripes, so it may be best to resign yourself to future disappointment. I think Attanasio probably doesn't want Fielder traded, even though the deafening silence from the extension negotiations would seem to indicate they won't work out a new contract. He may tell Melvin to hold onto Prince and try to make one more run with him at 1B in 2011. I don't see some miraculous trade for young pitching happening that many are pining for. We may just have to wait until guys like Rivas are up to help with the rotation in 2012 and beyond.
  17. Here's the meat of Attanasio's quote about Doug Melvin, via Adam McCalvy: "Doug Melvin is very, very secure. You're not going to see any GM changes here. Absolutely not. Doug Melvin has built up too much credibility. You're going to have to a lot more than even a bad season for him to have any issues with his job security. To all of our fans, look, it feels great to get it off your chest, but you're going to have to be dealing with our general manager for a long time."
  18. In response to the thread title, apparently, Mark Attanasio does not: McCalvy: Attanasio was clear, Doug Melvin has total job security and there's no chance of a managerial change on Monday. Edit: More comments here.
  19. I doubt it. He'd have to wait around to get a non-roster spring training invite next spring, I bet.
  20. Didn't realize he was throwing that hard. I suppose maybe there are other issues then. Hope he can work them out. It would be great to see him be an option for the Brewers in a couple years.
  21. Well, Gomez was showing something the team by and large has been lacking all season. I'm not a big advocate of showboating, especially under those circumstances; but it had to feel good to hit a homer in his first game back. It would be nice if the rest of the team could get fired up like that once in a while.
  22. I thought I had heard that Money prefers working with the minor leaguers. Not sure if that is true or not, though.
  23. As entertaining as that would be, I'm pretty sure it's against league rules (due to the whole Turner episode years ago).
