  1. I'm not sure if Weeks was actually in the lineup for tonight to begin with. McCalvy mentioned something about "my error" with regards to Weeks when he posted the revised one.
  2. MLB Trade Rumors now has a story up that says Roy Oswalt has formally asked to be traded before July 31st. Supposedly the Rangers, Cardinals, and Braves are his top choices. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/05/roy-oswalt-requests-trade-from-houston.html
  3. Haudricourt seemed to insinuate that it could still be happening relatively soon. I don't think this is anything to freak out about.
  4. Riske going to the DL probably clears room for Gomez then?
  5. I think that's probably a fair assessment at this point. Just avoiding the sweep and winning one game doesn't really accomplish much at this point in the season.
  6. Maybe he really is hurt. If that's the case, a DL stint wouldn't be the worst thing right now.
  7. Yes, which is why it's so surprising how bad he's been this year. He just doesn't have much upside, so if they DFA him, I don't think it's any big loss. It seems like they have better reliever options in Axford and Braddock at this point anyway.
  8. Wow, I don't remember that one. Any details?
  9. Personally I think Kottaras has been a pleasant surprise. He's looked good at the plate and decent behind the dish. And other than his slow start at the beginning of the season, Zaun has been fine as well (though I've found his defense a bit lacking, but the shoulder injury may have been a factor). People are forgetting how horrible some of the catchers throughout the league are when it comes to hitting.
  10. Probably something a Mariners' fan came up with, I assume.
  11. From what little I know of Axford, even though he is 27, he didn't sign until August '06 (with the Yankees). He made it to their AAA team, but didn't do much there. I assume maybe he was blocked anyway?
  12. I don't know. You would think we could get a good deal for 1.5 years of Fielder without having to include one of our few starters that can throw in the mid '90s. Gonzalez probably isn't going to be on the block like originally thought, given the Padres are in first place. Fielder is probably going to be the far and away best offensive player on the market, assuming Melvin decides to shop him (which barring a massive and quick turn around, I hope he does). We shouldn't have to include extras with Fielder, quite frankly. Edit: Just saw this posted on the CBS Sports Brewers board. I have no idea what this guy's source is, so take it with a grain of salt: Word has it that Jack Z has been interested in Prince recently even mustering up and offer that includes Doug Fister, Michael Saunders or Dustin Ackley (2009 #2 draft pick) and Casey Kotchman. Sounds like a pipe dream to me, especially given that the Mariners are in last place, so I don't put much stock in it.
  13. I don't subscribe to Baseball Prospectus so I couldn't read the rest of the article, but it sounds more like idle speculation to me. I don't think there are any legitimate reports out there that Attanasio is trying to initiate a move, at least not that I've seen.
  14. I thought last night was good, but not great. It was one of those storyline advancement episodes they have to do every once in a while. Not quite as funny as the typical Office episode. Looks like Holly's return might be coming sooner than later.
  15. I'd like to see a "closer by committee" type thing right now. I hope Macha just uses one of Axford, Villanueva, or Braddock depending on what the situation calls for, and work that way at least for a while. Having a designated closer is partly why we're in the mess we are in now.
  16. Just as a funny aside: Some of you may not have heard, but the Yankees had to place Jorge Posada on the 15 day DL due to a fracture in his foot. You know who they called up? Chad Moeller. Yeah, I think I'll take Lucroy at this point.
  17. Vargas should be DFAed. He's been completely useless this season. The roster moves should be based on performance at this point. Sending down Axford would be inexcusable.
  18. Apparently Braun and Fielder approached Macha with the idea.
  19. I see now Gerut is unavailable due to birth of a child. This team is really getting short handed.
  20. I have to say, I'm partly hoping to see how far down the abyss this team can go.
  21. I do remember hearing about some kind of flap regarding this last year. You would think MLB would work out some kind of sensible deal for kids to get to wear their uniforms. Helps create MLB fans, like you said. I remember when I was about 13 I played in a city summer softball league. The next year the league was canceled because too many of the kids were also in soccer, so this isn't a new problem.
  22. Adam Stern is playing center field. Everyone else is in their usual positions.
  23. Rauch has been a pretty solid closer for them so far. 10 saves already.
