  1. I was there yesterday and couldn't believe Macha let Narveson go 130 pitches, and with no one warming up until right before he hooked him. I understand the bind Macha is in. I think he was possibly trying to send a message to the starters that they had to go longer in their starts. But when a guy was just put into the rotation a couple weeks ago, that's absolutely the wrong pitcher to do that with. If you want to have Doug Davis pitch 130, fine, he can probably handle it...but Narveson is basically a top 3 pitcher in our rotation right now, and you just can't let him go that long so early in the season. I was at 3 games this week and saw some terrible Brewers baseball. If people are wondering why the crowds are shrinking and lifeless, I have pretty good evidence as to why first hand.
  2. Branyan hasn't played in more than 120 MLB games since 2002. He cannot stay healthy over a whole season. Dunn is a level above Branyan as a player and if we do deal Fielder and need a stopgap option for a couple years at 1B, Dunn would be a great option. I think he might be too expensive though.
  3. I read that Yost plans to give Kendall "a day off every two weeks." That's just hilarious.
  4. Presumably. I guess it wouldn't make a difference, I just get the feeling that Macha doesn't really emphasize good defense with the players much. Maybe Randolph would.
  5. There's no question that Prince is playing bad (for him) so far this season, but at the same time, the pitching absolutely has caused the majority of the problems so far this year. The Brewers have a top 2 or 3 offense in the NL, but one of the worst pitching staffs so far in 2010. The horrible thing about the short pitching starts is that it overworks the bullpen and also is likely causing the offense to "press" to score runs. The abundance of 4 and 5 inning starts from the rotation is straining the whole team.
  6. Are these the "hot" cards this year? I haven't been into baseball card collecting in quite a few years, but have been sort of getting the itch to start collecting again.
  7. That's been my biggest fear since the start of the season. I really hope Melvin and Co. are honest and don't try a half-hearted "go for it" attempt again like last year when we're really just in "pretend contention." If we're just sort of hovering around .500 at the All-Star break, I hope they realize it's more than likely not going to happen this year. The Cardinals are too good this year, and there are enough other Wild Card contender teams that don't have as many question marks as the Brewers right now. Then Melvin will need to make some efforts at rebuilding for next year. Biggest and most painful of all will be trading Prince...but if it doesn't happen, this team could be doomed to several years of mediocrity. Prince will have much more value in season than during the off-season, in my estimation.
  8. Reading the latest JSOnline blog entry, it sounds like the players are starting to get demoralized. Not a good sign. “Yeah, (it’s frustrating),” Fielder said. “You don’t like losing but it is what it is. We have to come back tomorrow and see what happens. "I guess we need to get more timely hits. Yup, we just have to keep getting more hits. Just try to outscore the other team. That's all we can try to do and unfortunately we came up a little short." There was a hint of sarcasm in his words there. He later added this: “Unfortunately, it's always the offense that gets blamed. I think we have to keep doing what we're doing. We scored five runs tonight. Tomorrow, hopefully, we get more than they do.
  9. Heck, if Fielder and a couple others are traded, we could contend again next season with some appropriate off-season re-tooling. The team will have some budget room to make acquisitions. I just don't think trading for a pitcher like Oswalt fits into the equation, though.
  10. The only saving grace on this season is that the Brewers are in a lousy division. Even though we're only 15-20 on the year, we're "only" 5.5 games out of first, tied for third place with the Pirates, of all teams. I don't expect the Cardinals' recent woes to continue too much longer, though.
  11. All I can say is "amen" to the first line. As far as the second line, I am going to the game today. It will be the third game I've attended this week. I expect to have not seen any wins by tomorrow, though obviously I will be cheering as hard as ever.
  12. Unlike Randy Wolf right now, the chat room is rockin' & rollin'.
  13. Seems weird to see Hart in the 2-spot. Hopefully that helps create some offense.
  14. Uecker is giving a live press conference right now. Seems like he is in good spirits and looking good, all things considered. http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?topic_id=6350584 Edit: Weird. I'm watching online and suddenly the audio and video went from being 4:3 with very low audio to being in HD and having almost stereo quality sound. Guess someone flipped a switch or something.
  15. Even Ohka was pretty serviceable until he got hurt. That probably would have been a winning season if Sheets, Ohka, Hardy and others hadn't all gotten injured.
  16. Sad story. As I mentioned in the IGT the day this happened, the wife and I were having lunch at Fridays, and this happened probably less than 15 feet in front of our seats. http://www.jsonline.com/newswatch/93783369.html A 51-year-old man who fell about 14 feet from the lower level in left field while the Chicago Cubs took batting practice at Miller Park last month has died, according to a Milwaukee County medical examiner's report released Friday. Stuart S. Springstube, a Weyauwega resident, was wearing Cubs gear and reaching out over the railing down the left field line attempting to catch foul balls April 25 when he tumbled headfirst over the rail and onto the hard dirt below.
  17. Anyone know if Yost is going to get a press conference? I have to admit I'm somewhat anxious to hear from him again after him basically being gone from the game for the past season.
  18. I don't think Hoffman is done, I just think he's off to a really slow/bad start. He'll pull it together eventually. Do I think he should be counted on to be the team's closer at this point? No, not really. At least we have options internally if he does completely falter.
  19. I have to admit reading about his debut in Nashville has me salivating. Obviously there's a big jump from facing AAA hitters to MLB hitters...but even just seeing him make a start again at Miller Park would be amazing. I would be sure to get tickets for that one.
  20. I suspect personal performance awards are a bigger factor in salary arbitration hearings than contract negotiations. Presumably the contract offer to Prince (assuming it's legit) would have performance incentives for winning an MVP award, etc. Really, when we're already talking about a nine figure contract, I don't think a performance award is going to be that big a factor.
  21. I had heard that some of the staff seemed to think Eveland had an attitude or something, but can you really say he got him kicked out of the club?
  22. This link has some further details on the supposed offer (I have no idea if they're legit or not, obviously): http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/messages/chrono/21774635?tag=pageRow;pageContainer
  23. I think this might actually be a better move than some people think. The Royals stink and the writing was on the wall that Hillman wasn't going to make it through the whole season. Yost did a good job moving the Brewers from being a bad team to being respectable (I'm not giving him all the credit for that, but they did improve). He might actually be a good fit down there right now.
