  1. I was confused as to why this game isn't in HD, then realized it's a WMLW game.
  2. You want a simple point? Mat Gamel has almost a year of MLB service time earned and he's started a grand total of 24 games in his career. You don't get better on the field by watching, you get better by playing, but Macha didn't know what to do with him because he was in a "zim-zam". I blame Melvin for this more than Macha though. The Brewers were in contention when Gamel was brought up, and we were in "win now" mode. McGehee and Counsell were both playing well, and then Melvin traded for Lopez. I don't blame the manager for not playing a green rookie over guys that were producing. Melvin shouldn't have left Gamel on the MLB roster when it was obvious there wasn't really room for him. I don't see how you can point the finger at Macha for the fact that Gamel is accumulating service time while on the DL, either.
  3. Got a link here for this?Er...I may have jumped the gun on that one. The only "source" I have is a summary from ESPN's fantasy baseball player tracker. I would guess a return next week is more realistic at this point.
  4. The worst part is, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they go with a plan that a roof can't even be added later? Correct. That would have added significantly to the cost, as I understand.
  5. During last night's game there was an equally bad base running mistake where two runners were on third base at the same time. You can see it here about 1:10 in: http://pittsburgh.pirates.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=7896091&topic_id=8878822&c_id=pit
  6. Sounds like Gomez may be playing again before the end of the weekend, so this may be a non-issue.
  7. McGehee is putting up an .859 OPS. I'm not really worried about him.
  8. Yes; but guys, how does the difficulty check on a fortitude saving throw affect the metric? Ahem, sorry. Anyway...yes, it does seem like the defense is a bit worse than last year; but I think things will even out as the season goes on.
  9. Which reminds me, I overheard a Miller Park employee talking about the new scoreboard at a game I was at a couple weeks ago. Apparently the thing is going to be HUGE. All color, HD, etc. I'm really excited to see it when they finally get it up for next season.
  10. As I understand it, the stadium is not in a great location, and is akin to the Metrodome as far as being a mundane baseball viewing experience. Still, that isn't enough of an excuse in my mind. The Rays should probably look at cutting their losses and move to Portland or somewhere else that would actually appreciate having a competitive baseball team.
  11. ''Superior in every way?'' Really? I haven't been to Target Field in person yet so I can't really comment on it, but I still consider Miller Park to be excellent. And those two little features you mentioned are pretty huge for me.
  12. Yes, with the free agents that will probably be leaving, they could probably afford Fielder next year (and that's assuming they wouldn't turn around and trade him this off-season). At this point, what is Fielder in line to make next season through arbitration? Probably $15 million or so? Of course if the fans continue to not bother showing up at Tropicana despite the team's excellent start, the ownership might just say "nuts to this" and not bother trying to make any big moves this year or next.
  13. I guess I haven't been as impressed by Gerut as some. He's just extremely average, and doesn't have any upside at this point in his career. I'm fine with keeping him around as a bench player, but I don't really want to see him getting lots of starts.
  14. Hawkins and Hoffman are really the only guys that have been major problems up until this point. Parra has been shaky in some instances, but I think that is due to how he's been used more than anything (and I blame Macha for that). I do think Hoffman has shown signs of getting it back together. I'm not sure about Hawkins though. It seems like he's been up and down all year as far as his control and effectiveness.
  15. I could be wrong, but I just don't remember Braun getting anywhere close to as much attention. Maybe it's because because he didn't get called up until late May in '07.
  16. Yeah, that is a great point. You'd rather have a guy that's 31 riding the pine and playing part time than a key prospect like Lorenzo Cain. I didn't realize Hopper had been playing CF, since milb.com has him listed as an LF. My mistake.
  17. Interesting to know. I did not know he was doing so well right now. The only downside with Hopper is that I don't think he plays CF (I could be mistaken). Joking aside, I really don't want to hear Eric Byrnes or Jermaine Dye mentioned as possibilities at this juncture.
  18. With Carlos Gomez sounding more and more likely to go on the DL, and Jim Edmonds apparently still having some nagging back issues, is there a chance the Brewers call someone up soon? Jody Gerut hasn't exactly lit the world on fire when given a chance so far this season (4 hits in 30 ABs), and I'd rather not see him starting on a regular basis. I hope they don't go into the weekend series short handed like they did against the Padres.
  19. I was just reading how Roberts pitched over 300 innings for 6 straight innings, and completed about 75% of those games. Safe to say those days when pitchers would go like that are long gone.
  20. Yeah, I don't understand that. The throw was straight...maybe not dead center to Prince, but I would guess 99% of the time Prince catches that easily.
  21. Maybe they just aren't aware of the website? Although I'd swear I've heard Rock mention BF.net in the past (a few years back, though). Anyway, it would be nice to see Cain get a shot after all his hard work, though he obviously has to be healthy for sure in order for it to happen.
  22. Hawkins needs to be checked out, or Peterson needs to figure out what is going on with him. I am not ready to give up on him, as he has had some decent outings this year, but we can't keep giving up games late like this. We've already had too much of that this year. I just don't get why Macha lets him load the bases and still leaves him in. I was (fortunately) asleep by the 9th, but it sounds like it was obvious he didn't have his command or good fastball. Would it have really hurt to put in Parrra or something? Ethier is the hottest hitter in baseball right now, and it should have been fairly obvious what was going to happen. Sure, another reliever might not have given a better result, but at least it would have been trying SOMETHING to save the game. Taking 2 of 3 in LA is not bad at all, but this was a game that could have been won in extra winnings, and it seems like Macha didn't want to bother differing from his "formula" for the late innings. Pretty frustrating to see.
  23. Yeah, sounds like he's pitching pretty well right now. Could a move up to AA be in the near future?
