  1. As good as he's been this season, a modest raise shouldn't be unexpected. I just hope the Brewers don't go overboard with him, though.
  2. I would agree it's obvious Suppan has been declining for the past couple years. I just hope the Brewers take an honest assessment of him (and their starting pitching in general) this off-season. While it's clear they probably won't be dumping him, I see no reason why they shouldn't consider converting him to a reliever. If he doesn't like it, too bad...it's not like he'll be paid any less.
  3. Defense is probably behind value for a team like the Brewers than offense and pitching are. Defense is sort of like the last piece of the puzzle. If you don't have the first two, it's largely irrelevant.
  4. As a former advertising salesman, I hate companies that try to get free promotion, especially through means like this. If they want to reach BF.netters so bad, maybe they can pay Brian for an ad.
  5. This is all pretty moot due to the fact that some players will need to be traded if any kind of decent pitchers will be acquired for the next couple seasons. Since Escobar is a stud prospect that JJ is blocking, he is a prime candidate to be traded. Trying to shoehorn him into a new position won't fix the starting rotation, which is this team's biggest problem right now. It's not like we're going to sign some big free agent pitchers, so trading players like Hardy is the only way this team can hope to contend next year.
  6. I recall Haudricourt saying Hoffman has said he wouldn't mind coming back. My guess is it's going to take a lot for the Brewers to trade Hoffman at this point. If they can get a young decent pitcher for him, great. Otherwise they should just hang onto him and try to retain his services for next season. He's been pretty much their only reliable reliever on a consistent basis.
  7. And, if the point to sending JJ down was to extend another year of control over him, then Doug Melvin really is a mustache-twirling villain in the eyes of the player's union. The whole point of sending Hardy down was to give him at-bats in non-crucial game situations. Of course, with the pitching this team has right now, every game is a non-crucial game situation. If the player's union is going to hate a GM for sending down an under performing player, I really couldn't care less what they think. It's not like they generally have the best interests of small market teams like Milwaukee in mind, anyway. If he can't even hit AAA pitching, it's not like he's showing he belongs a call back up at this point. If Doug Melvin doesn't keep him down long enough to get the extra year of service time, I am going to be severely disappointed and question his ability to continue being a quality GM for the Milwaukee Brewers.
  8. That is also true RobertR. If the rest of the staff, Gallardo aside, had been more consistent, Suppan's unreliability wouldn't have been such a deal this season.
  9. How did the Brewers management deal with Hardy in any sort of negative fashion before sending him down to AAA (when it was probably overdue)? If you're going to be so negative all the time, at least back it up with some solid reasoning.
  10. Yeah, I won't hold my breath for that. If he can pitch with a sub-5.00 ERA, that's about all you can hope for at this point.
  11. http://www.bostonherald.c...-making-room-for-wagner/ "Veteran right-hander Brad Penny requested and received his release tonight in a move that clears a roster spot for reliever Billy Wagner and gives Penny time to join a new team before postseason rosters are set. "I asked for my release and I got it," Penny said. ... He has won just once since June 18 and was removed from the rotation after allowing eight runs in four innings of Friday's 20-11 loss to the Yankees. He finished his Red Sox career 7-8 with a 5.61 ERA." I'm glad we didn't get this guy, like some were clamoring for. It was also funny how a couple months ago, some Red Sox fans were on places like MLB Trade Rumors trying to talk him up for a possible trade elsewhere. "He's a power pitcher!"
  12. Maybe they can convert Suppan into a reliever next season.
  13. The problem is it's already late in the month...I hope no one expects to see any big returns for what would basically be a one month rental trade.
  14. It takes into account last year's stats as well, if I'm not mistaken.
  15. The best shows on MTV are the ones where the parents try to set up their kids. The acting is hilariously bad.
  16. I'm not sure, but I do know they have to have a special election. Under Massachusetts law the governor does not get to pick his successor.
  17. Is that the first one he's blown against the Brewers? Seems like it.
  18. I fell asleep after the 9th inning. It was nice to see the Brewers fight back, at least.
  19. Barring injury issues it seems almost certain they will be calling Salome up after Sept. 1st.
  20. You never know...Kendall in particular might have interest to some teams that need a backup, or have a starter with injuries. I mean, Pudge Rodriguez hasn't lit the world on fire this season, but just got traded last week.
  21. I was kind of surprised to see this, even though I knew he was in failing health. He'd been in the Senate for 47 years.
  22. It's important to remember that teams put many players through waivers. It doesn't mean anyone will be dealt, so I'd suggest no one get their hopes up.
  23. Fortuantely for the Brewers it really doesn't matter what he thinks at this point.
  24. If people are dying for a solid leadoff hitter, why not just keep Lopez around? He's been great this season.
