  1. They shouldn't be "backing away" at this point anyway. The division is still quite winnable, and they play a lot of bad teams in the next few weeks. What happens if they go, say, 6-1 over their next week of games? Then are they suddenly back in it? That wouldn't leave much time to suddenly become buyers, either. Also, with three million fans on track again at Miller Park and record TV ratings, becoming sellers would be a terrible business decision right now. Sometimes it's about more than just the team on the field...sometimes you have to be loyal to the fans that have been loyal to you. I'm not saying they should sell the farm to get one pitcher, but trading off guys now when 1st place is still within grasp would send a terrible message. We're not the Pittsburgh Pirates anymore.
  2. Yes, he has a "clean bill of health" in that he can start rehabbing. There's no indication he will be back before the end of the year.
  3. Yeah, that is being floated out there right now. It's not as if the Padres have urgency to rush him back before the end of this season. I just don't see how it makes sense to try to trade for him now. Maybe in the off-season it could be re-visited, but not right now.
  4. The price tag for Davis shouldn't be extremely high at this point...he'd just be a rental, and with Halladay floating out there, I have to believe the suitors for Davis are fairly slim at the moment.
  5. I'm praying for a trade at this point. Either that or bite the bullet and call up Cody or Dillard finally. I wanted Burns to succeed, but his starts have been way too shaky to count on.
  6. I hope Melvin at least investigates the possibility. He'd be a clear upgrade over Burns, and is not very expensive.
  7. That's interesting. Thanks for the update, kalle8. I am surprised to hear they are still investigating Doug Davis, but with Halladay looking more and more like a pipe dream, it might be the best move Doug Melvin can make at this point..
  8. ERA around 5.00 and WHIP of 1.50 right now. Maybe an upgrade over Burns, but I wouldn't give up much to get him.
  9. I'd look at him, but I'd rather get someone who can help this season...I'm not sure if Peavy falls under that category at this point.
  10. While it was a disappointing loss (I turned it off before the scrap up, unfortunately, too), there were some positive signs. Lopez looks like a positive addition to the team, and it's great that Braun finally hit a home run, his first in almost a month. Hopefully this is the kick in the collective rear this team needs and they start going on a tear, starting with tonight's game.
  11. To be fair the second out between third and home was intentional...he was trying to protect the other two runners on the base paths. The first one was pretty boneheaded though.
  12. Well, he did have a base hit in the first inning so hopefully he's starting to turn it around. I think he's just pressing a bit right now. One big hit might calm him down.
  13. Hopefully the Halladay era will be starting soon enough in Milwaukee. Hey, I can hope, right?
  14. I admit when I first saw it on TV I thought it was going to be gone. Maybe the wind is blowing it back in a bit?
  15. Damn Doug Melvin for trading for this guy!!! Prince drives in an RBI at least with a big sac fly.
  16. Ah, so that was the infamous Braun "strut" game against the Astros.
  17. And as long as Halladay is willing to waive his NTC to come to Milwaukee.
  18. It's the same song and dance with the O's every year. "Player X might be available but they want the moon and stars." And then nothing happens and they continue to lose every year.
  19. Sounds fine with me. Get it done.
  20. Melvin needs to be on the phone with him now, offering a package four or five second tier minor leaguers, if this is actually true.
  21. We should be able to put something like that together, shouldn't we?
  22. I don't see why we'd really need Sherrill. Adding a quality starter to actually go more than five innings on a regular basis would help the bullpen a lot more than adding another reliever.
  23. Haudricourt has a new blog entry up that really seems to pour cold water on the idea of the Brewers possibly trading for Halladay. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/51248022.html
