  1. I think McGehee's injury issue is what is causing him to sit more often, not a lack of production or the production of anyone else.
  2. I can't believe some posters here still rip Macha for playing Counsell consistently. He's been basically the third best hitter on the team this season, and is in the midst of a 10 game hitting streak, along with playing his usual above average defense.
  3. Exactly. He has nothing work with at this point. There are no decisions he can make on hand that reasonably give him a better chance of getting a victory. Sometimes it really is the players' fault.
  4. With Villard going tonight, that could be a real possibility. I know this line has been used a lot lately, but "Can Bill Hall pitch?"
  5. None of you have suggested anything realistically better for Macha to do with what he has on hand. His rotation and bullpen are both a mess right now. Yeah, let's crucify the manager anyway, it must be his fault, right? A manager can only use the deck he's been given. Right now he has one ace and no jacks. Just a bunch of jokers and deuces.
  6. Well, apparently the Yankees asked the Brewers in the off season to eat part of Cameron's salary in a trade...so I doubt even they would be willing to take Hall or Suppan. If they did take one of them, we would get basically nothing in exchange, except for maybe one of their bad contracts like Kei Igawa or something.
  7. I agree...at this point they can't really look for a fix for this season only. I'm of the mind that Melvin's best chance to get someone who can help next year is probably right now...look at young guys under control for a few years who might not be on the radar for the big contenders right now.
  8. It would be nice to make a trade for a long term pitching solution, because no one can convince me Melvin will be able to land anyone better than a Looper type again this off-season. I'd kick the tires on guys like Ian Snell at this point. Young guys who will be under control for a few years that might not take too much to get.
  9. Yeah, but at least Gagne was only for one season. They had to overpay a bit to get him to sign a one year deal. It was a gamble that didn't pay off, but I think it was worth the risk, even though he didn't pan out.
  10. It's hard to blame Melvin that much for Hall. He had two good years in a row, and he had improved each year. It's hard to imagine that a guy in his mid 20's (at that point) was going to regress so badly in just a couple years. I mean, he's not even 30 yet and has just completely fallen off as far as production. Plus, while I realize his contract is somewhat of a handcuff from making moves, it's not like it was the most abysmal contract ever. Only owed $8 million or so next year, so I don't think you can really blame that for lack of future moves this off-season. As far as Suppan, they needed a steady pitcher badly at that point. I don't know how much influence Attanasio had...I'm sure some, since he wined and dined Soup before the signing. However, if Melvin really thought it was going to turn out this badly, he should have edged Attanasio away. I admit I liked the signing at the time, as it was nice to see the Brewers going to free agency to address a serious need. However, in retrospect it's obvious they should not have made the move. The prospect of Soup being on this staff again next year is down right scary. I seriously wonder if they might either trade him for next to nothing, or just DFA the guy. He just isn't keeping the team in games on any consistent basis anymore.
  11. I'm strongly in favor of trading Hardy for something of value and promoting Escobar at this point.
  12. Yeah, but Hart has been hitting a bit better later. It's easy to say "Just trade him for anything!" but if we trade him and he suddenly reverts back to his '07/'08(pre-September) level of play, the same people will be screaming about what a bone head Melvin was for trading him.
  13. Yeah, I have tickets to two games and September, and will probably get one more game through the "free" BP tickets. Kind of dreading that right now.
  14. And hey, as noted, the eephus pitch was awesome again last night.
  15. Macha confirmed what I suspected this morning on WTMJ...says he hopes Villanueva can go 3-4 innings, and Dillard will be backing him up. So basically it's a "Villard" start tonight.
  16. At least Counsell has a ten game hitting streak going...that's something to feel good about, I guess.
  17. I can't blame him due to how thoroughly bad the team has done. He really doesn't have much to work with in terms of the rotation, or now the bullpen for that matter. The situation to have Villy backed up by Dillard is an interesting one, and I'm not sure what other choices he really had at this point.
  18. Wish we had traded for him before tonight's game.
  19. Well, he can't be any worse than this garbage tonight. Right? RIGHT?
  20. I don't get the idea that Hardy will get more in the off-season...shouldn't he be more valuable now, being able to help a team this year and next, instead of being basically a one year rental?
  21. I'm guessing they were really hoping to have gotten a trade done by tomorrow, but with that looking less and less likely, they decided to punt this one and go with Villy. Why not Dillard, I can't be sure.
  22. Wow, I'm really not excited about this. We're going to get short on long and even middle relievers pretty quickly.
  23. If you are suggesting platooning Hall with Hardy, it seems like it would make more sense to call up Escobar and have him platoon with Hardy at that point.
