  1. I don't get why everyone is jumping down Pudster's throat. I think his post may have been a little bit extreme, but I think he's bringing up a valid subject worth discussing. Also, I have to question this statement by mkm13: "1st base is the easiest position to fill." While it's true from a defensive standpoint it may be the easiest, I don't see a solution in the immediate future that would come close to matching Fielder's production. Or are we talking possible trade ideas, which would move us into a much grayer area?
  2. They're already saying any bankruptcy would not void the players' contracts, so that shouldn't be a real issue. It does seem crazy that a team with the history and fanbase of Cubs is having such significant problems getting their sale done.
  3. I know I've harped on this a lot lately, but at this point I think I'd just like to see the Brewers hang onto Prince. Maybe trade him before the 2011 trade deadline if the team is out of contention mid-season, and there's no chance he can be re-signed, but that's it. I don't want to see him traded for a couple of prospects who may or may not pan out...I'd almost rather take the comp picks. Trading him creates a huge hole in the offense that would not be easily filled. I'm also not convinced Melvin and Attanasio won't make a strong push to try and re-sign him. There's only so many realistic destinations for a guy like Prince who will command a huge salary. Everyone used to say he'd end up in pinstripes one day as almost a forgone conclusion, but with Teixeira locked up, they have no real need unless they want him as a DH...and I don't think Prince will settle for that at this point. They were going to offer CC over $100 million as a "special case". Maybe Fielder will be viewed as a new "special case".
  4. I was able to connect through the phone line finally, but when I read about single tickets only being available, I lost interest.
  5. Main hobbies are playing bass guitar in a rock cover band and listening to music. I also occasionally home brew, and have interest in shortwave radio. PS3 and Wii playing occasionally too. I also enjoy trying to stay in shape (suffered a shoulder injury a few months back which has made it rather tough), which ties in with what I do for a living.
  6. Wouldn't surprise me...those guys can be pretty ruthless. It's not worth it for me to come out from Fort Atkinson on a weeknight if I have to pay full price or above for tickets, generally.
  7. Yeah, I got in, but it looks like the Tuesday tickets I wanted are already sold out (said best available were $48.00 each...), then the browser kicked me out. Now I'm waiting again to see if I can possibly get tickets to the Thursday game. Just tried calling the ticket office and got a "due to heavy calling, your call can not be completed" message. Ugh.
  8. Mods, if this isn't appropriate here, please move. I'm sure everyone knows about the Brewers promotion in conjunction with Prince hitting 23 homers last night. Anyone else having issue trying to buy tickets? I've been waiting about five minutes already with no luck.
  9. I think there's virtually no chance SF trades Cain at this juncture. We'd have to probably take on one of their bigger contracts just to make the salary even out. Also, the proposal for Cain doesn't address the gaping hole we'd have in our four spot without Fielder.
  10. Exactly. I wish people on some of the local talk shows would stop screaming about how the Brewers need to "cut him." It's just not going to happen, as the Brewers can't afford to throw that much salary down the drain.
  11. Along that same line, the ads for Super Video get kind of annoying with their weird psychedelic music (or whatever it is). Also, one I hear on internet radio a lot..."Internet Speedway", it's one of those "make money from home doing nothing while your computer works for you!" type ads, telling you to send for a "free CD with free information", but what makes it more annoying is they have this fake DJ that is supposed to sound like an actual radio jockey just talking off the cuff about it. Lame.
  12. I don't believe we'll get a top of a rotation starter for Prince, at least anyone the Brewers can control for more than a couple years. Everyone talks about getting Matt Cain or someone like that, but teams don't trade guys like that anymore. Young cheap starters that are actually good are too valuable to teams nowadays. I don't want a couple prospects at this point for one of the best hitters in the game...I want an upper tier starting pitcher and/or a projectable high ceiling hitter, and since that probably won't happen, I don't want to see Prince traded.
  13. The team is only 2.5 games out of first place, after getting done with a pretty rough part of the schedule. They're drawing attendance that is on pace to break last year's record. There's no way they sell unless they have a disastrous next couple weeks. Fortunately, with some hopefully easy opponents coming up, they should be able to build some momentum and maybe even catch St. Louis before the end of the month.
  14. I agree with those saying the Brewers likely won't get fair value for Prince, because he's just that good. Plus, who steps in and fills the gap for his production then? If the Brewers ever do trade him, they had better get one heck of a hitting prospect in return. I still say I'd rather just see them hold onto him for the next two years, try to re-sign him, and assuming he goes elsewhere, take the draft picks.
  15. He did, but it took him a little bit.
  16. Hoffman definitely deserves it. I don't know how anyone can dispute that really.
  17. I know this is well in advance but I'm looking for four tickets for this game. Want decent seats, hoping for a deal if possible. Thanks! Edit: Bought the tickets from jnatro.
  18. My sister used to work at a jewelry store that competed with Kessler's and she has plenty of stories. I won't bother relaying them, but the attitude some get from the commercials doesn't seem unwarranted.
  19. Ned Yost might not be a horrible idea. He was able to take the Brewers from bad to good. Yes, the players he had under him got better, but theoretically the same should happen with the Nats.
  20. If they were going to fire him, why'd they wait this long to do it? I know it's the All Star break and all, but a team should never let their manager hang out in limbo like they did. It's not like it's his fault his team is awful, anyway. They had to turn over the bullpen twice already this season, as I recall.
  21. They should tell him to stick it at this point...they gave him what he asked and then he says no? Forget him.
  22. Yeah, I was getting sick of people screaming for him to be signed. I think they're remembering the Pedro Martinez of five or six years ago, and not the more recent one.
  23. Rumor has it Pedro Martinez has signed with the Phillies. If that's true, I guess that takes him off any list.
