  1. Pinch hitting McGehee for Gamel was absolutely the right decision in that situation, and given how Gamel had performed at the plate that day. I wish McGehee had been as highly touted as Gamel when he came to the Brewers. Maybe that would cut down on some of the criticism around here.
  2. I was at yesterday's game and it was just frustrating seeing the offense not score a single run and waste Gallardo's effort on the mound. Having said that, I'll take a series win of the Mets any day. It seems like not long ago the Mets usually dominated the Brewers. Every time these two teams play I think back to that encounter three years ago (I think), where Mike Piazza drew a walk on four balls in the 9th inning to walk in the winning run. I'm glad those types of games are generally behind us against New York these days.
  3. Blame MLB then for basically forcing the Brewers to do anything they can to make money in order to stay competitive.
  4. Yeah, I agree. Though the downside with JJ is that he doesn't have the speed of a guy you would typically like high in the order.
  5. I agree. People make their own choices in life, ultimately, and he's made quite a string of bad ones. And the most frustrating thing is that he's made the same bad choice over and over.
  6. Yeah...it doesn't seem like a great time for business expansion. I co-own and operate a small business with my family and we keep getting asked when we might expand into Janesville. I just have to shake my head when people ask these days.
  7. Last year in 31 starts he had an ERA over 6.00 and a WHIP over 1.6. This year (granted in only five starts) his ERA is over 10.00. What could possibly be so compelling about him, other than the fact he'd be cheap?
  8. Figure this probably belongs in the rumors section for now. Just saw a tweet from MLB Trade Rumors that says, "Trying to figure out if Geoff Jenkins signed." Does not give any other info or name which team is in question. Good for Geoff if this is true.
  9. Well, Doug Melvin commented on TV the other night that the Brewers would have to "motivate" him to make a move. Hopefully their good play of late has been "motivating" him to at least more seriously investigate making something happen. It's nice to know that we have an owner who will support making a move as well. I agree that I would rather wait things out and hopefully make an impact move, rather than just do something middling just to make a trade happen.
  10. For whatever reason in MLB '09: The Show (which I haven't played in a while, sadly), Milledge always kills my pitching.
  11. For selfish reasons I'm glad Gallardo is going today, as I will be in attendance.
  12. I can see the justification for Hall being in there (lefty matchup, had a couple hits the night before). But another 0-fer night warrants a return to the bench, in my view. Calls for Ned Yost are a bit much, though. Remember it took Ned Yost getting fired for an anemic Rickie Weeks to finally get benched. At least Gamel is getting playing time, while Ray Durham rode the pine pretty much after the Brewers acquired him.
  13. Yes, a great win tonight, and if the Brewers can keep up playing like that have been in the past few games, you have to feel good about matching up with the scufflin' Cubbies right now.
  14. Funny, I was just telling the wife the other day about how I'd like to take a road trip to Kansas City sometime. I would like to see a Royals game at Kaufman Stadium and the famous BBQ, I guess.
  15. As reported on MLB Trade Rumors, it looks to be pretty much a done deal that the Pirates are trading Nyjer Morgan and Sean Burnett to the Nationals in exchange for Lastings Milledge and Joel Hanrahan. Kind of an interesting move, though the Nationals seemed pretty set on getting rid of Milledge.
  16. I agree that possibly Villy should be replaced, or relegated to a lesser role at this point, but I would hope they could simply look at internal options. Maybe someone at AAA could serve that role? Mike Burns strikes me as someone who would make a good 1-2 inning guy as well.
  17. Yeah, I'm pretty sure the union made sure the players were granted immunity of sorts before agreeing to allow the testing.
  18. Sounds like he may have been a transplanted Cubs fan or something.
  19. Yeah, Janesville is in a tough situation. It was just announced by GM that they chose Orion for their small car operation and not Janesville...so the Janesville plant will remain shuttered for the time being. I think if there's any positive there it's that they no longer have to deal with the constant rumors that had been swirling in regard to what was happening. I know that's not much of a bright side, but hopefully Janesville will eventually be able to attract some new industry to make up for some of the jobs lost. It's safe to say the days of people being able to walk out of high school and make $35+ an hour on the line are probably gone for good there, though.
  20. Or did they just not care? I don't think they had any penalty for a positive test back then, did they?
  21. It's an interesting idea, but I'm not sure he's a great fit with the Brewers right now. I think Melvin's priority has to be getting a starting pitcher right now, and if he gets a guy like Scott, that would probably use up most of his realistic trading chips he can afford to expend this year.
  22. Ouch...I can't see the Brewers being willing to take either of those contracts, unless Toronto was willing to take Hall or Suppan in return, or eat a bunch of salary.
  23. I really doubt there is no minor league defense instruction. I don't think anyone was really saying that either. I think it comes down to that some people think Gamel can develope just fine with his current track at the Major League level, while others think it would be better for him long term to be down in the minors. I'm of the opinion that there probably wasn't that much more he could realistically learn at AAA. Many guys don't spend much time at AAA before getting called up, and I don't see why Gamel can't fit in that category. I do also agree with others who feel a trade may be in the works, and Melvin wants Gamel around getting as much time as possible with the Brewers before he either has to become an everyday player or gets traded for something big in return.
  24. It's "plausible", but there seems to be too many guys you would accept at face value as having maybe done steroids in the past, that it almost seems too real to be true, to me. I agree that it looks like they just picked out most of the guys who had big years in '03, and then threw in a few also rans to make it seem a bit more credible.
  25. Yeah, plus the fact that the website gives absolutely no clue to where they actually got this "info".
