  1. Well, I do agree with the last part of what you said, JoeHova. However, I don't think anyone here was really suggested the Brewers would be or should be built with lots of FA signings. We all know that's not realistic for the Brewers. However, I do think occasional free agent signings will happen from here on. At least it seems like we'll have a chance to sign some of our own guys, too, like the Braun extension, and things like that.
  2. Funny, but depressing at the same time. We're all jumping the gun a bit here, though. Hopefully the last couple days off helped him and he'll be right back out there today or tomorrow in the Pittsburgh series.
  3. My worry with Edmonds is he's older and probably not that great defensively anymore. I imagine he's better than the other options with the bat, though.
  4. I don't know...if Braun is going to miss significant time, it would suck, but I think it's too early to "throw in the towel." Maybe they could move Hall to LF and have Gamel play 3B, or get someone like Geoff Jenkins as a stop gap solution until Braun could return. I'm just saying while missing Braun would hurt a lot, I think they still have enough pieces to make a go of it and stay in contention. They could always make a key trade before the deadline if they are still in it, too.
  5. Also Jeff Suppan. I know that opens a whole 'nother can of worms that really doesn't need to be rehashed in this thread, but at the time he was considered one of the top free agent pitchers available. Cameron had his own issues that probably diminished his value somewhat when he was available (mainly the fact he was going to be suspended for the first month of the season). Also I would say Trevor Hoffman was a good free agent who no doubt some other teams inquired about.
  6. It still seems like it would be a bit of a waste to me...though they probably figure using lots of options with Gamel won't be a big issue. But beyond a few series against AL teams, what do they do with him then? Send him back down to AAA to continue his defensive work? What if he's killing the ball? Do you have to platoon him with Hall at that point? Bill Hall hasn't exactly played himself out of a starting role up to this juncture in the season. I guess I almost think they should just use Nelson in the DH role, assuming he's at least had one hit by that point. Anything is better than "Tony Gwynn - DH" like we saw last season, though.
  7. While he did make some solid contributions to the Brewers when he was here, he was still a fairly marginal player at that point. I can't see any real good reason to bring him back now.
  8. I won't bother giving marriage tips because you're already basically there, so you can find out on your own soon enough. As far as Jamaica, I've never been there, but everything I've basically heard has been "Stay on the resort and don't leave unless you want to get mugged or worse."
  9. "JoeHova wrote: There were plenty of people who were not in love with the deal from the beginning." There were a few...but if you look back when it happened, the vast majority were in favor of the trade, and I think far and away the vast majority of Brewers fans (beyond this forum) think it was a tremendous move for the franchise. Also most of the national press and commentators have said they thought it was the right thing to do, during and after the season. No, you can't run your team based on that (before you jump to that point), but you can't pretend that there was a significant minority against the trade. It was probably only a few posters on this board, and maybe a vocal minority elsewhere. Throwing out other possible trade scenarios well after the fact is also just delving into revisionist fantasy GM stuff which is kind of irrelevant at this point. For all we know it could have taken much more to get Cain than the package that got CC, and again, anything less than CC's performance and we would have missed the playoffs yet again.
  10. Yeah, I think Fielder was at least seen as being competent at first base, while Gamel still seems to be something of a butcher.
  11. Well, it's definitely the intent, seeing the Cubs logo at the bottom of the shirt.
  12. I do think people were placing an over emphasis on the injury when he was hitting poorly to start the season.
  13. Except that there was no option between a rental player or a player who was going to pitch more than 15 games, while the Brewers were trying to make the playoffs.
  14. It will take more than two days sitting on the bench to decide that or not. My guess is this might be one of those nagging things Braun will have to deal with throughout the season, but hopefully it won't be something that puts him on the DL. They way he's been hitting in the last couple weeks doesn't make it seem like he's been severely hurt.
  15. And for all we know Mat Gamel could be their answer at 1B if they decide to have him switch positions. You keep talking like trading LaPorta and Brantley stripped the Brewers of all their depth. It hasn't come evern close to doing that.
  16. They have him signed through 2012, so I really doubt they trade him right now, since they have him on a relatively affordable contract. The Royals are probably on the verge of being contenders in a somewhat mediocre AL Central.
  17. Ball went past the catcher, who had to scramble to get it, and threw to Gordon who was covering home. He tagged Rickie Weeks out at home plate, but then fell over in obvious pain. Looks like Gordon hurt his leg fairly badly and was just assisted off the field.
  18. If anyone cares, I'm in the chat room right now. Good inning...wish more of these homers would come with men on base, though.
  19. I doubt they would have already sold over 2 million tickets for this year if they had missed the playoffs again last season.
  20. *bump* I haven't gotten any responses so far. I'm serious about getting four tickets for this game...I'll look on stubhub soon enough, just thought maybe someone on here would have tix they wanted to get rid of.
  21. Not using Questec at this point is only caused by the umpire's union. It's kind of silly, since they wouldn't lose their jobs...they would still be relaying the "call" from the Questec system, and would still call plays at each base.
  22. Desperation move? Come on...we traded him for the reigning AL Cy Young winner. How is that desperation? What long term pitcher was out there that the Brewers could have realistically gotten for the same package they offered Cleveland? Also, Sabathia was the best starting pitcher in all of baseball in the second half of the season. Anything less and we probably would have missed the post-season, yet again. Anyway, debating this trade any further is kind of futile...I think both sides have made plenty of compelling arguments on both sides of the issue.
  23. Maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea to contact Geoff Jenkins at this point?
  24. It doesn't bother me. When do we get our shirt taunting the Cubs, though?
  25. Yeah, would love a split after running into some tough pitching. Bush should be able to get it done today, I think. Now the offense just has to show up.
