  1. Since I have nowhere better to put this, I'm pretty sure I saw Trevor Hoffman at the Best Buy in Delafield earlier this afternoon. I have no way of knowing for sure, and didn't say hi to him or anything, but feel 90% sure it was him. Anyway, it would be awesome to win secure the series win tonight. I will be at Miller Park tomorrow and would love to jeer the Cubbies out of town...
  2. I think the "not wanting to play in Milwaukee" thing is overblown. Yeah, some guys want the limelight of New York or LA...but I think most of the past sentiment comes from the fact that the Brewers wouldn't or couldn't compete with salaries offered by bigger city teams. Plus the fact that the team used to be seen as perennial losers who wouldn't spend to win.
  3. So, any speculation on what the Brewers might do in regards to Cameron after this season? I assume they'll at least offer him arbitration. http://www.brewcrewball.c...you-do-with-mike-cameron has an interesting take.
  4. Exactly zealous...it would be one thing if the team was struggling, but they're not. Bill Hall is playing well, and there's no point in calling up Gamel to have him mostly ride the bench.
  5. You can spend a lot more money because everything costs more and deal with more crazy people, in my experience.
  6. There's a big difference playing an MLB catcher at 1B and playing a newly called up AAA 3B at 1B, though. I think this notion that Gamel will be transitioned to 1B is completely fan generated at this point.
  7. Yeah, I love how some other teams' fans are now whining 'cause Braun was supposedly hanging his tongue out after hitting that homer last night. I don't recall Michael Jordan getting ridiculed too much for his tongue waggling back in the day.
  8. I agree with yount19. All the people who call Braun cocky need to shut up and look at Pujols.
  9. I think Bill Schroeder of all people said it best last year during a Brewers game. It was something along the lines of: "When did the Cardinals become the guardians of baseball tradition? They're throwing their helmets around and breaking bats, and complaining about untucked shirts?"
  10. Usually a lot of the issues work themselves out. A hurt guy will sit out, opening the door for the manager to pick a more deserving guy, etc. I think the problems get overblown a lot. I do think a weighted system would be best. Maybe count the fan votes for one third, player votes for one third, and coaches/managers for one third. Also, not starting the voting two weeks into the season would be nice.
  11. Well, I think if this is true, Manny can kiss the Hall goodbye. Unless the writers turn around on their longstanding views on not inducting cheaters.
  12. I agree with Southpaw. I think it's reasonable to say that while Braun was pretty bad defensively, his offensive contributions at least somewhat made up for his shortcomings. I also think he could have only gotten better if he had stuck at 3B (I don't think I'm really going out on a limb there). However, moving him to LF was for the best.
  13. Not too shocking. Shouldn't take close to 10 years to put out a PC game these days.
  14. Duffy has at least shown some defensive prowess and ability to get the bat on the ball when needed. Nelson hasn't really done any of that. I remember hearing Kevin Kennedy talk about his days as a minor league manager, and when some kid got recalled back to AAA from a short MLB stint. He had gone something like 1 for 11 or 2 for 13 in the majors. The kid didn't understand, and Kennedy told him "The way you hit, you shouldn't be surprised...you didn't get the job done." Maybe that's an extreme example, but Nelson just really isn't making much of his opportunity, which is too bad. I know he's obviously trying, but he needs to get some hits quick.
  15. I have to imagine Nelson's time is running out. It's just not acceptable for a bench player to have no hits after 19 PAs. Yeah, you can say "small sample", but he's not getting the job done, and he really doesn't bring much else to the table. Fortunately the team doesn't have to worry about their bench too much at this point.
  16. Russ, it kind of sounds like you're talking out of both sides of your mouth on this, if only a little bit. On one hand you say his persona is contrived and he spouts cliches, but on the other you say he often speaks his mind. Seems contradictory to me. He does less of the generic robot interviews that most players give ("Yeah, we played hard and we ended up on top...we're just trying to do what we need to do to win," etc). He does some of that, but he doesn't sugarcoat things when he has to.
  17. Actually, judging by who the guy is "following" I think it's a fake...but yes, still funny in my opinion.
  18. I don't think it's that people want ESPN to make a huge deal about it...it's the fact that it wasn't even mentioned at all. They've really barely given the Brewers any attention the last few days, even as they play well. The foul ball controversy on Friday received basically zero mention on the four letter network as well. You know if that had been during a Yankees or Red Sox game, they would have dissected it for at least 15 minutes. I guess there's no point in rehashing what ESPN is at this point...just more reason to tune into the MLB Network.
  19. I remember a few years back when the Brewers had a really horrid pitching staff, and reading an article that said the Cubs hitters were almost literally salivating at the thought of facing Milwaukee and boosting their batting averages. It was the truth at the time, too.
  20. I was too young then, but I'm sure there were people in the mid '80s predicting Robin Yount and Paul Molitor would leave eventually. Yount never did, though he surely had opportunity to...and Molitor only left because he was low balled out of town. Some guys do stick around for all or most of their careers with one team. As far as Braun, I think his attitude was something this franchise has needed for a time. The Brewers have been the meek also-ran guys of the NL for years, up until about three seasons ago. He's a bit cocky, but not over the top with it, and he backs it up on the field. I don't see the real problem with it. And I agree with SoCal that we should just sit back and enjoy the ride. He's not going anywhere, anytime soon. Maybe we should be talking about enjoying JJ, Corey, Prince, and Rickie while we can.
  21. Yeah, you'd think Joba was the second coming of Cy Young, given how much attention he gets on that network.
  22. The Brewers have him under contract for six more years after this season, and it's an affordable one. It's not really worth even thinking about before then. He is playing well and seems to like it here...no need to fret about something so far into the future.
  23. Well, good to know the real baseball show mentioned it, even if the Eastern Seaboard Pandering Network did not.
  24. I thought this would be worth discussing. A couple people on the JSOnline Brewers blog noted that ESPN's Baseball Tonight only devoted about 10 seconds to the Brewers-Pirates game last night, and made no mention on the 17 game streak. Of course, they noted the Red Sox' whopping 5 game win streak over the Yankees. So, is this streak the Brewers are enjoying against the no-luck Pirates note worthy, or do we only care because we're Brewers fans? On a side note, someone over there noted the Brewers are currently on pace to match their record from last season.
  25. So, I have a "dougmelvin" that I follow on Twitter. I _think_ it's the real Melvin, but I could be wrong. Got this message at 11:25 PM last night: "At a bar at the airport in PIT trying to convince the bartender I should drink for free on account of how we own his team." That's awesome.
