  1. Have you adjusted the sliders? I've found the game was way too hard on the default settings, but tweaking things helped create a situation where I at least have a chance to win... I'm currently playing a lefty pitcher in Road to the Show. He's in his second season in the Orioles organization...seems like he kills everyone in AA, but AAA is a lot harder. I was actually happy when they switched me to a relief role in AAA, but since that was too easy for him (he had a couple three pitch, three out innings), they of course put him back in the rotation...where he promptly got shelled in two games before being sent back down to AA, where he was lights out in two games...now he's back up in AAA. Fun times.
  2. Kind of surprised they finally got it done, especially given the current economy. I guess all that remains to be seen is if people will actually show up to their games when the new park is built.
  3. I see your point, endaround. I just don't know if the Brewers, with their budget stretched as is, could even afford him for the next year and a half (or whatever it would end up being) before trading other guys off for salary relief. I also think Melvin might be leary of trading off more prospects (since Fielder, Hardy, etc. will likely be gone sooner than later).
  4. Even if he does decline that much and put up that hyptothetical line, assuming his defense is still adequate, it will be a better $10 million spent than what the Brewers paid Gagne. Maybe better spent than what they'll be paying Suppan this year, too. And at worst, he'll be off the books after this season.
  5. Wow, talk about pessimism. I really don't understand this kind of point of view. How is it grasping at straws? The Brewers won the 2008 NL Wild Card. That's a fact. And I don't see how putting up a banner equates with the "real possibility they never will win a World Series." Also, I don't think anyone seriously thinks it will be another 26 years until the playoffs at this point...
  6. Cool. Any chance someone here could get some pics? (I doubt it, but you never know).
  7. Yeah, I tend to agree that Peavy just isn't a "fit" for Milwaukee at this point. I just hope the Cubs don't end up trading for him at some point this year.
  8. So, Ichiro won it for Japan in the 10th. Seems fitting. Sorry to say I fell asleep somewhere in the 6th inning.
  9. Well, the pessimists here can look on the bright side...if Suppan falters in enough of his early starts, the Brewers might be forced to put him in the bullpen.
  10. That was exactly my thinking, too. Would almost make more sense for them to ask for Escobar if they wanted a shortstop.
  11. Some guy is on the JSOnline blog claiming the Brewers talked to San Diego today about Peavy, and said they wanted Hardy plus prospects. I don't buy it, personally.
  12. OK, fair enough. But why should it be Japan's champion, rather than any other nation's championship team?
  13. Why is Japan suddenly the greatest other power in baseball? Granted, they won the WBC last time and may win again, but I'm sure Cuba, Puerto Rico, and other countries would object. Also, what about players from Japan that are already on MLB teams? What if, say, the Mariners win the World Series, and were to play Japan? Who would Ichiro play for? This idea of yours has so many holes in it, it's completely unfeasible. Again, though, I think you're just taking the phrase "World Series" quite too literally.
  14. Nelson brings lefty power off the bench. Lamb brings...not much at this point.
  15. It has the power to generate millions and millions of dollars in revenue, I guess?
  16. "Can Bill Hall be GM?"
  17. This whole argument just really seems like nit picking. Why is it really that big a deal if it's called the "World Series" or "MLB Championship" or "North American Baseball Cup" or whatever? Are you really that genuinely offended by it? Really, MLB is the highest level of baseball in the world. As pointed out, and as you've ignored in your arguments, players from all over the world compete for the various MLB clubs. Thus, I don't think it's really that offensive to call it the World Series.
  18. That's exactly what I was going to say. Just because the geographic area that the teams comrpise is limited to North America, the fact that players from all over the world come to MLB adds validity to the phrase "World Championship."
  19. I thought it was worth noting that Matt LaPorta has had a pretty good spring, batting .394/.474/.667 in Indians spring training. Still, he is not expected to make the Indians' MLB club out of spring training.
  20. I think if Melvin really "loves Gwynn", he would have had way more opportunities than he's had to start at the MLB level. Then again, if popular sentiment ruled in his situation, Cameron probably would have been traded for a sack of balls to the Yankees so Gwynn could be our starting MLB center fielder this year. I agree though, that I hope Gwynn is just DFAed, if a trade can't be worked out. I have nothing against the guy, I just don't see him having any sort of fit with the Brewers at this juncture.
  21. I believe she was quoted as saying "We know each other personally and professionally." So not exactly a direct indictment, but doesn't look good for A-Rod at this point. When's the last time a baseball player had such a bizarre off season? I don't remember.
  22. Hopefully Hoffman will be back within a week or two of the start of the season.
  23. So the USA is done. I guess at least they showed some improvement over 3 years ago.
  24. Anyone know if this will be on Dish Network, and if so which channel? Edit: n/m...looks like channel 444 on Dish.
