  1. You are right on Contreras, I was just hoping. We have a top catching prospect nearly ready, he is one to watch this year. We will need to trade Contreras as soon as he is if the fat deal is available.
  2. Beyond the obvious moves they need to make before the start of next year the team has to determine what they intend to do long term with players like Turang and Contreras. These two are examples of players the team really needs long term. I don't know if there is any chance in getting reasonable long term extensions now. I think our coaches and the front office has done a superb job. I don't blame the owner a bit for his approach, this is a business first. No owner would approach this team in a reckless manner business wise. The big market teams in today's system have a huge advantage.
  3. There is no player a team shouldn't listen to offers for. You can always say thanks and hang up. For Freddy he's not the ace on many teams, 2 or 3 guy. Will we be able to sign him to an extension is the question the team must ask itself. If likely no then you've got to be proactive. We don't need to trade him before the season, but if a fat deal is there I wouldn't hesitate. Value plus. As implied that value is going to have to be pretty good but maybe not quite what some think.
  4. I hadn't heard that to that extent. It is exactly what MLB needs. Now you have to convince the big market teams and the players union to jump on board.
  5. Absolutely spot on and would love to see all of that happen. My comments were strictly about player payroll.
  6. The stinking Angels make more money in TV contracts alone without selling a ticket than the Brewers make with every single thing they do. It isn't the owner. He's doing everything he can do that still makes business sense and don't kid yourself, it's all about the business for every team. If we had the Dodgers owner it would be the same thing. MLB needs a cap system like the NFL has, or in the very least far greater revenue sharing with penalties like losing your international money and draft picks for going over certain thresh holds. Problem is the commish is an employee of the owners, and the 8 or 9 big market big money teams are going to keep the rigging exactly as it is. Manfred like Selig will do what he's told if he wants to continue sitting on their lap.
  7. I noticed it to but didn't trust myself to make the call. I think it was poor management to allow him to catch as much as he did with a broken finger, and even 100% healthy he needs days off to recharge whether he thinks so or not. He has voice in the matter but the manager should keep it a managers decision.
  8. These reports are much appreciated, the only way for many of us to stay in tune with many of these developing players. Great job!
  9. Excellent report, I'm trying to get there yet this year to see these guys...
  10. I was hoping we'd get something for Cortes, and I like the get.
  11. Durbin, Vaughn, Jansen, we've made trades and 2 have had impact. They don't have to be at the deadline. The key here is don't overpay and don't make desperate bad trades. I don't expect any big trade here today, maybe add a middle relief guy IF the price is right. If we can find a trade partner for one of our rental older pitchers for a prospect I'd be far more interested in that. We have a couple that could go for the right return.
  12. To answer the headline I think they've been too aggressive. I don't like the Jansen trade much although it's not a biggie and I would not have paid what Seattle did for rental ES. Sure if we can get a bat like O'Hearn for a reasonable return I'm all for it, but don't overpay for rentals or old guys soon to break down. Underpay or sit tight. This team is just fine as it sits. We need our prospects because MLB has designed a system that the small market teams can't compete in by throwing money around like the Dodgers and 10 other teams can. Our prospects is all we have.
  13. I do not understand this trade. I don't see much gain, he's not a developmental prospect at 30, we gave up a developmental prospect. Will he truly bring much more than EH did?
  14. I wouldn't give Pratt for Suarez alone, and I'd be hesitant to give Patrick. Maybe Tobias Myers and Tyler Black and I don't even like that much for a rental.
  15. Define "all in". What would you give for Suarez.? Gasser, Pratt, and Burke would be OK to give for the rental? I'm exaggerating the comp to make a point but there are limits. The Brewers would be far better off making zero deals between now and the deadline than overpaying for anyone. I like our lineup that has gotten us this far. Go ahead and better the team if possible but only with reasonable deals.
  16. A guy like Cortes I'd be looking to trade once he has established he's indeed healthy and productive. I wouldn't give him away but obviously you're not going to get a lot. A lower level young prospect the team was high on but didn't get a year or so ago the likely return. As far as others I'd listen but depending on the player it would take the top of his value level, or with some beyond. Just don't go out and give up a top prospect or two for a rental or old guy with a bad contract. I like the present roster and we can win with it.
  17. There are players we could trade but I am dead against trading future talent for rentals. Forget it. We have pitching depth and I would especially so be interested in talking trade with short timers. I'd hate to see young bats get traded unless we get controllable talent in return. I like our MLB roster just as it is....
  18. I would ride out what we have. NO rentals that will cost us valuable prospects. Trade the excess we have in pitching...
  19. The way Durbin is playing and Ortiz finding the bat finally I would make no moves to put them on the bench. Not sure what we have in Siegler for now. I'd be selling some pitching excess. Hopefully Cortez can get some action and prove himself healthy for just one we could move.
  20. Black could be a throw in on a deal but the others I would not trade unless we got higher return than warranted. They are developing prospects. No reason to move them right now...
  21. Injuries happen and can happen to anyone, but at some point the toll becomes overbearing. Mitchell may have had a lot of bad luck and/or he may be made out of paper-mache and glass. Either way it is becoming unlikely he will be with us much longer. He hasn't been all that great when healthy and he can not stay healthy. At his age with arbitration looming he will be an easy let go or throw in in a trade package,
